What couples fail to ask before getting married?

December 19, 2006

I was reading the New York Times website when I stumbled upon this interesting articles about the questions couple should ask before getting married.

1) Have we discussed whether or not to have children, and if the answer is yes, who is going to be the primary care giver?

2) Do we have a clear idea of each other’s financial obligations and goals, and do our ideas about spending and saving mesh?

3) Have we discussed our expectations for how the household will be maintained, and are we in agreement on who will manage the chores?

4) Have we fully disclosed our health histories, both physical and mental?

5) Is my partner affectionate to the degree that I expect?

Beware of Illegal Recruiters

December 19, 2006

I have always noticed ever since I was a kid, I have read in the newspapers, watched on TV, heard on the radio all about illegal recruitment agencies in the Philippines. There is always a company out there to fool people, and there are also a lot of victims all the time as they are lured into the trap of getting abroad and earning more to help in the expenses of the family and being able to climb their way out of poverty.

While there are people that can be fooled, companies like this will exist. And sometimes the victims are walking on the edge of the precipice, spending their last centavo and is in deep debt, expecting to get out of the country and being able to pay all debts once they get to work abroad.

How to Take Advantage of Free Hosting Sites?

December 19, 2006

The existence of free hosting sites are becoming a trend these days, they now come with cPanel, Direct Admin and other website managers, which used to only exist with paid hosting. Free hosts also offer huge space, which may reach up to 10gigs and bandwidth. You can also use your own domain or they offer you a free subdomain. These free hosts are PHP- and MySQL database-supported. Other features may include Fantastico which contains auto-install scripts that allow you to install PHP programs and a lot more, depending on your host.

But many people worry about the stability of these sites. They may worry about how do these free hosts exist without the members paying? Simple. Some free hosts offer an ad-supported plan, which means that you agree to display their banner in the form of text link ads such as Google Adsense, or they offer plans that requires you to make a certain number of posts for a given plan. You may wonder how do they make money out of those posts. The discussions created by the members will show relevant ads for their text-link ads and it will also reflect the activity of the forum, which serves as an attractant for more members, more traffic, more earnings. Some advertisers also opt to advertise their products in these sites because they are well-visited.

Top 10 signs that my folks are home indeed

December 18, 2006

FYI, it’s just me and my sister’s family here in the Philippines for most of the year. Papa works in Bahrain and Mama lives there with him. And it’s been like this for the past 8 years. There are advantages and disadvantages, of course, but I’ll save that for another post.

Anyway, so last December 13, my folks finally arrived home for the Christmas holidays, the 3rd consecutive time in 20 years that our whole family is complete! Yipee, right? Well yes. But the thing is, I have grown used to them being not around so during their vacation, the changes that their existence around the house can be quite amusing and sometimes, annoying, hehe! Home is very different when their around. Here’s 10 reasons why…

My Site Needs Upgrade Again

December 18, 2006

In just 10 months of existence, my SELaplana blog experienced a series of hosting plan upgrade at the PlogHost starting from Plann75 to Co-Branded Reseller Plan. As of writing this post, my blog has already consumed its 20GB Bandwidth limit. I already sent a request to the hosting company’s customer support regarding this matter, and I hope he’ll work it our immediately so that my blog can continue to exist this month.

I am still examining the site’s logs why did my site used up that much amount of Bandwidth. I’m wondering if its because of the images I uploaded into the site or because of the template of my blog.

Currently, there are two blogs who are eating up the bandwidth:

  1. SELaplana blog. This blog receives more than a thousand of unique hits a day.
  2. Songs Lyrics blog. Recent days, this blog receives more or less two thousand unique hits a day but later decreased to more or less a thousand unique hits a day.

However, I am still thinking if there are sites who are hotlinking to the images I uploaded into the site for it steals up bandwidth.

Yeng Constantino is the 1st Pinoy Grand Dreamer!

December 17, 2006

I can’t wait to blog about this.

The Pinoy Dream Academy Grand Dream Night has just finished few minutes ago. It was really a huge success for ABS-CBN, especially that they have produced deserving “dreamers” who will surely make it big in the music industry.

I’ve been a fan of reality TV shows and most of the time I get disappointed with the results of voting. But this time, I was satisfied with how it turned out to be. I am not a huge fan of Yeng Constantino, the 18-year-old lass from Rizal, but I appreciate her talent. In fact, I voted for her twice because I wanted her to win. Gladly, she did!

Why Do I Blog?

December 14, 2006

I’ve been blogging on and off for many reasons after four years writing about life’s common issues on quarter-life crisis, soul-searching, life’s simple pleasures and self-preservation.  I even promised myself many times that I will stop writing about my own personal life for the sake of privacy, however, the following things has kept me coming back to continue one of the very few things I love doing:

  1. It is less stressful than having to repeat my story to several people.  And since it is impersonal to rewind and play the tape recorder to recant my tales, I refer them to my blog site.
  2. It is an online personal diary where one can always can go back to and laugh at old memories.
  3. Creates another avenue of social interaction to meet new people and forge new friendships.
  4. Freedom to express opinions, hidden desires and nobody will judge except people who get affected otherwise.  Best used with a faceless alias unless most of your readers already knows you by your first name.
  5. Best outlet for releasing pent-up emotion, then refer back to #2.
  6. The natural high of being read without even trying.  Once you published your entry in the internet, there is always a fraction of its audience, reading your entries without you knowing it.  Visitor hits eventually increases if you manage to keep your consistency and even get a few techniques from our SEO experts.
  7. The fact of being helpful to readers by providing useful information that they would have never known in a thousand years.
  8. Easiest way to get the attention for a KSP fix.
  9. The feeling of meeting a complete stranger saying, “Hey! I know you.  I read your blog.”

From Hobby Blogging To ProBlogging

December 12, 2006

I started blogging last 2003 although I was already staying on the net since 1999 as webmaster.

At first blogging for me was just hobby. A hobby that somehow changed my writing skills from dumber to dumb. A hobby that sometimes used as a way of expressing what I feel to someone.

Year 2001 when I started to feel the importance of the Search Engine and the Search Engine Results Pages for my sites. And I was then urged by my blogs (2003) to do some tricks to climb up the SERPosition of my blogs on the Search Engines. Thus, led me to the creation of my Ka Webspy Network.

Harry Potter And The Order of the Phoenix. Teaser Trailer & Movie Stills Ahead!

December 12, 2006

View Teaser Trailer Here!

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! I can’t believe that only a few months from now, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will soon be on the Big Screen. This movie was the fifth installment of the worlds famous Harry Potter Series by J.K Rowling in creation for about 16 years to write all the HP Books J.K Rowling said on one of her interview this year that the 7th book (Title Unknown) will be the last of the HP Series *sob* because of the years she have spend writing and developing it.

Well at least lucky for us fans we could see a great future on HP Films (I Guess?!) I think it would take about 2009 or 2010 to finally end up the movies series. The Last book is said to be publish next year(or so) and the Order of the Phoenix released date is July 13th, 07

10 Things I’ve Learned from Blogging

December 12, 2006

  1. Coming up with ideas for a blog post can be sooo exhausting.
  2. When the most brilliant ideas manifest themselves in your fragile mind, you’re either in a situation where you can’t go online or even take down notes, or you’re too lazy to open your computer and type your mind away.
  3. Given enough time, your blog will attract admirers, stalkers, and vandals. Hooray.
  4. Your ex is reading how bitter your life is right now. She’s evil.
  5. No matter how good you think you are in writing good material, there will always be better writers writing better material a few clicks away. And it makes you sad.
  6. Earning money from your blog is not an exact science. It’s a mix of chance and divine intervention.
  7. Whoever you think is not reading your blog, probably is.
  8. A pretty blog will only hold visitors for a few minutes. Content is where it’s at, yo!
  9. One entry is all it takes to set your blog on fire, negatively or positively.
  10. If you can’t come up with a good idea for a blog post, the good ol’ “10 Things…” list can always save your day.

——————–

Baddie learned these things from his numerous old blogs, and will probably learn more with his current blogs: LongBox and Baddieverse. He’s also spreading the blogging bug to the rest of the UPLB community at Go LB!
