Induced Abortion in the Philippines
January 31, 2007
During my three-day duty at the OB-GYNE outpatient department, I was overwhelmed by the number of abortion cases. We had an average of five cases a day. At least one-third of these mothers had induced abortion, which means that they resorted to mechanical or chemical means to terminate their pregnancy. Usually they seek for consult because of fever and chills, and other associated symptoms of septic abortion.
Our city is just a small portion of the Philippines, yet there are already numerous induced abortion cases encountered. It made me think (or not like to think) of the rampancy of the case nationwide. Prolife.org say that every year, as many as 750,000 women undergo induced abortion in illegal “clinics” all over the Philippines. That’s how prevalent induced abortion is. It’s quite a frustrating number.

Nostalgia Bloggista: Cathy Babao

1. Where did you grow up, and what made that place special?
I grew up on a lovely tree-lined street in a quiet subdivision in Quezon City. When I was a child there were still many empty lots on our street and in the afternoons we would chase dragonflies and play with Makahiya plants. In the evenings there would still be fireflies. It was (and still is) a very safe neighborhood.
2. What was your favorite tv show, cartoon, or children’s show growing up? What did you like about these shows that made them your favorite?
I was a child of Sesame Street, The Electric Company, Eight is Enough and Little House On The Prairie. Melissa Sue Gilbert and I belong to the same age group
I loved all the wholesome family shows and would look forward to watching them every week-end. I also enjoyed Petrocelli, Starsky and Hutch and S.W.A.T.

No second circumcision for me!
January 31, 2007
I’m back! I was out, 20 days, but I’m back! Work pressures and some other thoughts made me stop blogging for a while… But the heck, I’m back in one piece.
Finally, Mayor Aguillo of Cabuyao, Laguna made up her mind in rehabilitating the Pulo-Diezmo Road. Damn, I bet that I be circumcised again if there will be no road repairs one week before the start of filing of candidacy. My 11 years stay in Cabuyao, Laguna is enough for me to predict what will happen during this period. Thanks God!
Windows VISTA upgrades will frustrate users…
January 31, 2007
Windows VISTA finally [finally!! after 2 years!!] launches here in the Philippines… the formal launch will happen at the Mall of Asia on the 3rd of February [this coming Saturday]…
BUT, but, before you decide to take that plunge, note that Windows VISTA Upgrade Edition will likely frustrate all you XP users… according to the article, when you try to install the Upgrade Edition on a new machine, or a previously wiped out machine, Vista will not permit you to do a ‘clean’ install even if you could provide proof of possession or ownership of a previous version of Windows…

Love Trip (the animation)
January 31, 2007
We have different kinds of love stories and most of us feel the same way — inspired and so light that all things can be done easily and fast.
Just like my college pal named Enzo. We met 5 years ago in our university, Liceo De Cagayan. We were classmates since then. Until both of use went to different classes for some reasons. Then he told me about this gurl that really make him fall in love..
.. and he came up with an animation he just sent to me today.

A new favorite?
January 30, 2007
Ask my friendly baristas at the Tower 1 starbucks and they would confirm that I take my coffee the caramel macchiato way - grande. I like this mix as I dont want to go to the trouble of adjusting a coffee’s sweetness by stirring in additional sugar. I like to drink it as soon they hand it over to me.

Technology Alert to be launched
January 30, 2007
It was in the news.monstersandcritics.com that soon there will be a Technology Alert System will be launched to prevent a repeat of the internet chaos which followed the Taiwan earthquake. I think the problem arise because of the earthquake in Taiwan should not happen again. And this system that they are proposing is a good suggestion. Below is the copy of the news taken from monsterandcritics.com :
Technology-alert system to be launched after earthquake chaos
Hong Kong - An alert system designed to prevent a repeat of the internet chaos which followed the Taiwan earthquake on Boxing Day will be introduced next month, Hong Kong’s telecommunications authority said Tuesday.
The system will require operators to report larger disruptions and stoppages to the Office of Telecommunications Authority (OFTA) within a specified time. The authority would be responsible for informing the public.
But what I don’t know is why there is an operator. Isn’t it automatic that when it sense something wrong it will just do something to prevent it.

Zap the Numbers, Keep the Formulas
January 29, 2007
One common type of spreadsheet is a fill-in-the-blanks template. Typically, such a sheet will have a number of input cells, and a number of formula cells. You enter your data in the input cells, and the formula cells kick into action and use those values to display some type of (usually) useful result.
At some point, you may want to clear the slate and delete all the values in the input cells. Rather than scroll around and look for the non-formula cells, you can take advantage of an often-overlooked Excel feature that lets you select cells in a “special” way

Apples-pie recommends… THE FACE SHOP
January 29, 2007
I first saw the store while going around Glorietta. The store looked expensive. Since I was a frequent shopper at Beauty Bar, I could just imagine the prices that this store’s wares cost. I did not attempt to even browse as that time I was broke and payday was still eons away.
Yesterday, while waiting for sweetie to finish his shoot, I was left to stroll around the Eastwood City Mall for quite a while and so I did. A brightly-lit store with white walls beckoned to me. I walked over and discovered it was the Face Shop. A cosmetics store much like Body shop or Beauty Bar.
Sex and the City ER style
January 29, 2007
I absolutely looove Grey’s Anatomy.
It was a blessing in disguise that I happen to be stuck to the couch with nothing to do but watch TV that time the show first aired (I was on maternity leave). Since then I have followed episode after episode of the series.
I especially love the voice over of Meredith Gray (played by Ellen Pompeo). So SATC style. I also love the fast-paced wit being thrown all around the hospital floor. I adore George’s clumsiness and Izzie’s childish flirtiness. I feel like Cristina is the one I wanna be when I grow up and McDreamy, the one I want to shag every night of my life.
Have you ever been on a shrimp boat?
January 29, 2007
I’ve always loved seafood and shrimp is on top of the list. I always sort of feel bad for all my friends who have this allergy for these shelled creatures. Who could resist eating shrimp…with all its juice streaming down your chin as you put them in your mouth one after another.
So have you ever been on a shrimp boat?

Google Alert
January 27, 2007
Do you want to know who is linking at your blog everyday? I think you have to subscribe to Google Alerts. This application will help you to know who’s blog or site linking or talking about your blog, so that you can drop by and say a big thanks for the article they have wrote about you.
Inbound links could also be found in Technorati, but if you like to have an e-mail everyday to say who is linking to you, it is better to use Google Alerts. You can also check their Help Page to better understand how this work.
