Skateboarding in the Philippines

Skateboarding has existed since the 1940’s which started out as pieces of soap box cars that later evolved into skateboards. This was then mass produced in the 1960’s and became a new kind of sport. I still remember as a kid in the early 80’s, skateboards were short and narrow made of hard-plastic or fiberglass. I remember once featured on ABC’s Wide World of Sports on RPN 9 on a Sunday after some weekly Chinese TV series, sometimes they would have skateboard contest. Where the most popular competition is the downhill obstacle course. A race between two playes where there are slaloms between traffic cones, running up and down a wooden ramp, and jumping over a bar but keeping the skateboard on the ground and they jump over the bar and land back on the board.
