Election season…bull…t time….
March 17, 2007
I really just have to vent out my feelings about what have been and still is happening to our country at this time… Election season has a way of really making me feel so angry, frustrated, helpless and hopeless! This is the time wherein the two most exploited word – God and people are used by almost anyone who’s got certain selfish agenda to promote.
Religious sectors would use their influence by letting everyone believe that whomever they endorse is God’s choice ( though they’re into semantics now by saying choose wisely but really suggesting their chosen ones, thats why politicians seek their blessings. Religion and politics are symbiotic- one cannot exist w/out the other.) while politicians would tell everyone that they represent the voice of the people and that they are running for a position so as to be able to help people! BULLSHIT!!! Religious sectors need to engage in politics so as to protect their interest – continued existence of their business w/c is basically religion, hospitals, schools -power, influence and tax free properties while politicians want power, wealth, influence and recognition! These are just their main agendas but what irks me truly the most is the fact that those intellectual delinquents, unqualified celebrities and personalities are elected by the very PEOPLE who supposedly have the power to choose their leaders in a democratic society!
Is voice of the people truly the voice of God? If so, is God really that stupid and not all knowing as we know it? Or is this just another exploited quotation bullshit that has truly lost its relevance?
I watch TV a lot, but this is the time wherein I would avoid watching and hearing any national and local news. WHY? It makes me feel so hopeless and so scared for the future of my children. Who is running for election now? Richard Gomez, Manny Pacquiao, relatives of established politicians-dynasties as if its family business that they really have to take over when their parent couldn’t run for reelection. It’s the same scenario every election time.
I have nothing against anyone regardless of their profession and status in life but if one becomes a candidate , question of qualification is of utmost importance! Rationalizing like good heart and good intention is better than a highly qualified person but corrupt is just to somehow justify and cover the true issue of qualification. THERE IS NOTHING MORE FRIGHTFUL THAN TO SEE IGNORANCE IN ACTION!
Governing a town, a city, a country is something so serious and complicated that one should never trivialize by using arguments of the heart. The quality of life of the citizens depends on it’s leaders. Lawmaking, implementation , economics etc.. are not something that can just be done by anyone. Even if the unqualified person gets elected and surrounds himself w/ experts for advice, he is still ill equipped to discern a good advice and a bad one! All he will be is a puppet and the real power will rest upon those who surround him. If you had a company- would you hire someone to manage your business just because he is honest? You might as well hire your honest janitor as your company’s big boss! If you were critical and needs surgery- would you allow someone unqualified but w/ a good heart to operate on you? At least w/ a doctor, it means only a single life at a time but w/ a president, senators, congressmen, mayors etc.. It would mean the lives of thousands of people!
I love the fact that I can literally afford to live here in the Philippines, in spite and despite. After all, there is no place like home. As much as possible – my dream for my children is not to work in another country but make it really good here, live the good life and maybe travel once in a while.
This is why election season has a way of making me feel angry, not necessarily towards those running for position but more due to the reality that more than half of our population are not discerning, lacks education and knowledge, thus easier to manipulate via paid publicities, money, entertainment and religion. I really do not see any light at the end of the tunnel . I guess this is why religion is very good business in 3rd world countries- why? Cause when there’s no hope, one can simply just say “pray”. then voila…we see the light! J
Anyway- I’ve said my piece. For those of us who have the capacity to use more of our brains in such matters- please…lets be more discerning and wiser.

Got something to say?

I’m speechless. You have taken the words right out from my mind. I agree 100%. Guess I don’t have to write about this anymore. =)
Sad reality in Philippine elections…
In every Phil. election, there will always be a Richard Gomez, Cesar Montano, Manny Pacquiao,Chavit etc…popular personalities, moneyed crooks and a whole lot more that will always attempt to run for a position. Though they don’t have enough brains or experience for the position, at least they are indeed smart enough to recognized the reality that more than half of our population are not discerning, lacks education and knowledge, thus easier to manipulate via paid publicities, fear, money, entertainment and religion. The wannabe candidates are just reflections of the quality of majority of voters in this country. To quote an issue years ago of Time magazine,” What’s wrong w/ the Filipinos are the Filipinos themselves…” Nothing has changed, said quote is applicable till now… sad but true ‘-(
uu 200 un. .
Tsaka ung mga religious sects di ba? bakit ba sila palagi nakikialam tuwing may election? bakit kelangan nilang mag-endorso pa? we are living in a country where democracy is a big issue, and election is a very conspicuous sign of democracy, but yet, why these religous sects tends to manipulate the minds of their members, whereas it is our freedom to choose whom shall we vote?
