Nostalgia Manila Nominated For Best Socio-Political Blog In The Philippine Blog Awards 2007

There are 12 award categories for the Main Category Awards, and Nostalgia Manila has been officially nominated for Best Socio-Political Blog.

Nostalgia Manila was conceived on September 10th 2006. A cathartic result of a person who refuses to be desensitized by today’s hyper media culture, often projected and filtered throughout the rest of the world. Most do not realize that there are many people out there who share a common yearning for the past. The world has changed a lot in the last few decades, and there are those who feel somewhat alienated by the changes they’ve witnessed and experienced.

On Being Bisaya

This was emailed to me by a friend, and had me laughing my a** off because there’s so much truth in it. It doesn’t matter if one hails from Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, or smalltown Ozamiz, or even if one is an OFW or migrant toiling away in New York or Dubai or Singapore. As long as one is in the company of a largely Bisaya/Cebuano-speaking folk, then he’ll likely agree.

(sorry for my non-Bisaya readers… but just read along, it’s not too hard to get to the gist of the post really. Or you can ask.)

Philippine Elections 2007: Choose wisely

With all the realities I have come to know in the past few days, I feel disappointed in myself somehow for not being more passionate about Philippine politics and government. I wasted a lot of years being indifferent and uninvolved in the state of our country.

Although, I am still not driven to the same passion as I see in most people, I feel there is still something I can do to help our ailing country. And that is to spread my views and maybe inspire people to vote more wisely.

That Smoker’s Cough Could Actually Be Tuberculosis

In our country, tuberculosis is already a common disease among the populace. Doctors, from the young medical clerks to the long-time practicing consultants have fairly developed their clinical eye for tuberculosis – one can spot a TB patient, even from afar. It’s not only the thinness that causes the register. There is something perhaps in the way they look or the way they smell. I cannot really pinpoint exactly. However, one description of a TB patient that I haven’t yet fit in my schema of tuberculosis is the one complaining of a smoker’s cough.

Smoker’s cough is experienced upon waking up. There could be little sputum (or phlegm) production. Most smokers have gotten used to this and would have not mentioned this at all during clinic consultations, unless you ask them.

However, research showed that smokers are at increased risk for tuberculosis. This smoker’s cough could be actually a presentation of pulmonary tuberculosis already.

Uninspired

And I knew this day would come. I knew that sooner or later, I’d be back to my old gloomy self.

I’ve been crying a lot lately — again. So what’s new? I’ve always had all the excuses in the world to remember every little bad thing that happened in the past few years in just one day, and that’s coming from an unmindful scum of the society. And now I feel the need to shower something (someone?) my love with.
