RANT: Globe broadband and the concept of customer service

April 22, 2007

I ranted a while back about how PLDT service sucks.

Now hear me rant about Globe and its incredible (read sarcastically) service.

You see we had acquired a Globe line just this year - prefering to have a landline and broadband service in the same package. The package offered by Globe was too tempting to pass up as it was just the equivalent of a landline subscription. Cheap eh?

Unfortunately, the Taiwan earthquake happened and much to everyone’s dismay, Globe was the least prepared for the destruction it caused to its internet services.

That quake occurred late last year. It has been more than 3 months and Globe’s internet services has not gone back to what it was before. Couple with that, the modem they provided has conked out on us a thousand times. No luck for us getting that replaced as our million or so phone calls have not succeeded in getting heard.

There is a Troll lurking inside this Blog!

April 22, 2007

http://www.roadsideamerica.com/attract/WASEAtroll.html

Err.. a Troll is lurking in my dear blog. How did I know that it is a Troll? Geez, what is a ‘Troll’ anyway? Ok, I have Wikipedia to explain it for me.

Troll

A commenter whose sole purpose is to attack the views expressed on a blog and incite a flamewar, for example, a liberal going to a conservative blog, or vice versa. The word trolling means literally ‘to fish’, ie. when the troll fishes for a clashback from the blog writer and/or pro commenters. Many trolls will leave their remarks on multiple posts and continue to visit the blog, sparking spirited debate amongst the blog’s regular readers. Trolls’ verbosity can range from eloquent to crass, although most trolls probably fall into the latter category. Originally, trolling only meant the custom where someone was commenting just to get a flamewar going, by using exaggarated points of view not held by themselves.

In Celebration Of The Earth

April 21, 2007

With the unusual weather the world is experiencing– too much rain, global warming, melting of the ice caps, it is only proper that everyone to take the problem seriously and spearhead advocacy to educate the citizens and for the corporations to take the lead on complying to the environmental standards and preserve the environment.

Stimulating A Pornographic Mind

April 21, 2007

I just can’t believe that three great bloggers, Renny, Marti and The Artist awarded me the so-called Thinking Blogger Award on the same day. I was damn surprised since a skanky whore like me got a recognition like that. I am touched and honoured that you guys thought that my blog can make someone really think.

If you people are wondering why I am babbling such things because I really thought that my blog is shallow like me. I even noticed that some quasi-intellectual bloggers stay away from my blog. Despite the fact that I read their blogs and even drop a comment or two from time to time. It is not that I am sour graping or anything but how do you suppose to get to know other bloggers if one can be such a cold fish?

On Paquiao and Geneva

April 21, 2007

In fairness, she did a fairly good job. I had word that Regine was supposed to do this gig. Word of advice to GMA 7: If you are going to steal the spotlight from ABS, go all out. Give us ate REG!

(hahaha, spoken like a true kapamilya!)

I hated it when Paquiao did an “over the bakod” and went from abs to gma. Sa aking mga narinig, na I might add ay hindi mashadong maasahan, dahil sa inuman ko lang siya narinig, na kaya siya lumipat ay may dagdag na 5 million siya from channel 7. My gawd.

Feeling Close: 2007 Senatorial Election — Vick “Yorgay” Magshayshay Edition

April 21, 2007

Shhhhh…Is it to safe come out now?

Ok. Since I trust you, let’s just do this in a hush-hush tone alright? I don’t wanna be sisig meat for the local PNP on their next videoke party (a.k.a. “My Way” drinking spree). I’m too cute for that! Ok not…but who would want to be their next “pulutan”? Certainly not me. I still wanna have a wife, kids, play with my grandchildren, attend videoke parties with my barkada and sing Linkin Park’s “Numb” when I’m in my 130’s (stem cell research does wonders mind you).

One of my friends actually thought it was safe to come out last Thursday. I told him not come out of the CAVE of JUSTICE (nice name huh! I’ll trademark that!) but he was so hard headed and so dedicated to serve the people that he never listened to what I got to say. Turned out he got himself shot after our drinking party but he’s OK now. So (this post) here’s to my close friend Delfy for his speedy recovery (woah! it rhymes!).

10 Most Common Grammatical Mistakes

April 21, 2007

In order for us bloggers to improve our writing skills, I’d like to share something I stumbled upon the web.

ZD Net UK’s Jody Gilbert posts the 10 most flagrant grammar mistakes that make you look stupid. Of course, most, if not all, apply to the written word.

Even I am caught unaware sometimes and succumb to these common errors. I hope that the guide below will help you make grammatically-correct articles and posts.

But for any aspiring writer, practice (and reading a LOT of books) will always help…

How To Lose Your Job– i n t r o d u c t i o n

April 20, 2007

I decided to embark a blog series on human resource management and employment to empower readers– employees, on the issue of “losing ones job”, and entrepreneurs and management alike on how to go about it legally. This will cover due process of law and the provisions of the Philippine Labor Code, on “termination of employment”. On the coming days, I will attempt to blog on the following:

  • How to lose your job– part 1 “killing you softly”: on this issue, we’ll blog about the little things an employee can do that over time, may be a basis for termination.
  • How to lose your job– part 2 “pull the trigger”: on this issue, I will discuss possible acts that may cause the immediate termination of an employee from his employment.
  • The Convergence: Due process of law– where employees rights and management prerogatives interact.

Hopefully, I will be able to add value to the readers on how they go about corporate life and/or managing the business.

Aside:

I have 2 movie pass for the flick “the reaping” and I am giving it away. I have sent email to the top 2 commenters and they have until Saturday to confirm, otherwise, it can be yours. I will reply via email (to give instructions on how to get it) to the first 2 commenters if the bloggers I emailed are not interested.

Bisita Vista sa Semana Santa (Finale)

April 20, 2007

Ginising ko sina Siren at Svelte. Alas-sais na kasi ng umaga’t kailangan naming mag-prepare for our final swim.

“Ano’ng nangyari,” tanong ni Svelte habang nag-iinat. “Success?”

On Finding True Love In TV Chat Rooms

April 19, 2007

Usually these chat rooms have numerous people chatting at one time with topics ranging from the usual how’s-ur-day greeting to the more direct i-wanna-f*ck-someone-now-call-me. Talk about lack of inhibitions of our teens now huh? And mind you not only do girls and boys have all the fun nowadays but gays and lesbians as well. I don’t know if there is such a term used for this act but I would refer to this act as “cyber voyeurism”.

The Big Bad Bullies of Philippine Broadcasting!!!

April 19, 2007

As of this writing, I am mad; the description fuming just could not contain the emotion I was trying to relieve.
Most of you know the type of work I do, my day job, besides the occasional sculpting projects I enjoy. But for others who still haven’t got a clue, I was privileged to be hired as an online comics illustrator at one of the top outsourcing companies of the best web designers, developers, and artists here in the Philippines, bar none. We work according to Philippine laws, pay our taxes. Our company provides work to almost 400 talented Filipinos.

Bang bang, Baby!

April 19, 2007

A tragedy shocked and brought grief to the hearts of the world as Cho Seung-Hui, 23, a South Korean student of Virginia Tech, open fired at the Norris Hall, ending 33 lives including his own. Before the tragedy, few students even joked around that one day this guy may come to school packed with guns and shoot them one after the other. It turned out to be not a laughing matter anymore as the incident occured. Her teacher even stated that Cho Seung-Hui’s writings and plays… [for transcriptions of his writings, click more]

Nothing less

April 19, 2007

I just found out about Julia Campbell’s death from Theresa’s blog. She was a Peace Corps volunteer working in the Philippines for the past two years. She was set to go home in June but she went missing last April 8 and was found in a dry creek yesterday morning.

Julia Campbell

Is it weird and utterly pathetic to cry for a perfect stranger? Cause I did.

Like Theresa, I feel ashamed and angered. At the person/people who did this to her. At the unfairness of it all. A person drops everything she has ever known to help people she doesn’t know in a poor, and dangerous (that is pretty much established, no?) country, and this is what she gets.

She was a martyr.

I don’t know if I can be like her.

Sometimes, I feel guilty for wanting to be anything less.

The Right To Defend Oneself

April 18, 2007

One cannot be told of the immense power of guns and its influence in our living. But get a gun, hold it with both hands and shoot a target (an inanimate one, hopefully) and you’ll feel it: the power of a malicious mind and its thought unleashed by a cold, metallic, unfeeling machine to harm the object of its malice. It is a terrible power and not a few want it and believe that they deserve to own such power.

Many believe that guns are making hell out of the world we’re living in. Many also believe that government ought to put more stringent policies regarding gun ownership and storage. Some even believed that the whole citizenry should be stripped of all gun ownership rights. However, I think these people are looking at this issue on a narrow perspective. Did they really honestly think that by putting restrictions on citizens’ rights to acquire weapons for their own defense they could prevent a horrible incident as Virginia Tech University Shooting from happening? If perhaps that student who killed as much as 33 people in the campus wasn’t able to acquire a gun, evil will not fall on those people he wished to harm? He would have found other ways, perhaps a bomb, to pursue his evil intent.

If only perhaps all the weaponry in the world could be eradicated (anything that could be used as a weapon to harm people, so that could includes your butter knives, pencil points, ballpens, scissors, and other sharp-ended, seemingly mundane things), then maybe, just maybe, Va. Tech Shooting will not happen again. But guns were only instruments; it is the malicious thought of harming people that kills people.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Cho Seung-Hui

April 18, 2007

Do not get me wrong. I am proud of Manny Pacquiao and his many accomplishments. Although boxing as a sport does not interest me, I am glad that Manny has brought recognition to our country.

The Pacquiao vs. Solis match was held April 15, 2007 and was shown on television at 10am. About 80% of the Philippine population were glued to tv sets (not necessarily theirs) around the nation. It seemed as if the nation was put on hold. Everyone and everything was quiet. A momentary ceasefire. Who could have imagined that peace can be brought on simply by holding a boxing match with Pacquiao as contender?

On the other hand…

The problem is competency, not political dynasty

April 18, 2007

This message on the Ang Bagong Pinoy yahoo group led me to this website.

The author is calling for a tsunami of outrage through click and text. While I believe that his intentions are pure, I just can’t imagine how his means will bring him to his objective of dismantling political dynasties . Again, this is a classic example of the elite mindset. Click and text may only be a start of something since he claims that this campaign is for the long haul. But still, the approach is elitist.
