Philippines Next Top Model: Standing Out Amongst the Drag

I was trying to comment on Misterhubs‘ blog about the latest Philippines’ Next Top Model episode, only to learn that my office has blocked “Blogger.com” (but not “Blogspot.com,” which means I could still browse through my amigas’ Blogger sites). Hope the IT guys won’t block Wordpress *crossing fingers*.

UPDATE: My officemate taught me about proxy serving. Pretty neat, only that it is directed to Turkey, which prohibits YouTube. Tsk.

Maruja Goes to the Arcade

After an afternoon full of socializing and hobnobbing, I went to our local mall supposedly to buy some new pairs of underwear. But then, I passed by the arcade where I used to hang out in my much younger days.

The place didn’t change much, only that they added new games and the people I used to see there were replaced by a much younger bunch.

That wasn’t important though, for I was staring at one particular game with much nostalgia.

Alok-Bati

Sa totoo lang, masaya na aketch sa aking trabaho bilang “bomba star”. Kaunting benta ng laman, may pera na tuwing kinsenyas.

Pero noong mga nakaraang linggo, nakatanggap ng tawag ang lola niyo. May alok. Alok na tumalon ng bakod, lumipat ng ibang kumpanya. Take note, hindi ako ang lumapit. Sila.

Ang ganda ko kasi. CHAROTEE!

Basa pa, bakla!

WoW! 728 & 3,432 are good technorati stats, isn’t it?

At around 10pm today, I was surprised to see that PBS’ technorati authority was already 728 and it was ranked 3,432. It was surprising co’z these past few days, it has only 200+ tech auth. Wow that’s amazing, right? So I hurriedly took screenshots of PBS and techonorati site:

Source: Technorati Authority and Rank
Posted by Dorion Carroll on May 5, 2007

On Fri. May 4th, we updated Technorati.com to include the Technorati Authority for blogs listed on the Blog page and in search results. This update changed the earlier references of “N blogs link here” and “X links from Y blogs” with the single Technorati Authority number. On the blog page, we also show the Technorati Rank.

Technorati Authority is the number of blogs linking to a website in the last six months. The higher the number, the more Technorati Authority the blog has.

But then after a few minutes, that was before 11pm, I was again surprised to see the NEW tech auth which is already lower than 200+ :(   So what really happened?  Was there a bug on the widget? Something wrong in the technorati site? Or just a joke *LOL*.  i’m not sure what really happened. Is it a premonition that someday somehow PBS will reach that statistic :D   hopefully. with all pinoy bloggers’ support thru the BlogYaNiHaN spirit :) Mabuhay po tayong lahat!

UPDATES:

2007 May 9: At eto bumalik na naman sa 729 simula kaninang 11:45pm hanggang ngayon (12:15am na ng May 10) *lol*.  Sana huwag na bumaba yan hehehe

is nationalism still alive in the Philippines?? » in retrospect…

an officemate and i got to talking about driving conditions in the metro and outlying areas while waiting for the next meeting to commence… it all started when he asked me the top 3 drivers/vehicles among our public transport system are worse… to answer his question, my choices were:

number 3: buses, because of their volume along EDSA;
number 2: taxis, because they don’t care whether they get hit or not;

and,

number 1: jeepneys, because they still maintain that they are kings of the road, and must be feared…

Julia Campbell: The Philippine’s Unsung Heroine

Recently, we have all heard about Julia Campbell, the US peace corps volunteer who was found dead last week. In the news, there was something about Julia’s blog. The reporter read some excerpts from her blog and it got me instantly on the computer searching for Julia Campbell’s blog.

Offline Website Promotion

While I don’t try to separate my offline life from my online one, I normally don’t tell anyone about my website. Maybe it’s because I have never had a chance to insert into a decent conversation the fact that I own a website. Yes, my family does know about this, but then it’s mainly because they always see me online, and I used to post my site address on Friendster (which I rarely use anyway).

The biggest publicity my site has received offline is the Manila Bulletin’s Blog-o-Rama feature just last week. But even before that, the 2007 Philippine Blog Awards win has done a lot to promote my site through word of mouth. More attention = more online buddies = more lovely blogs to read = more traffic = more Adsense impressions = (hopefully) more clicks = more money = more resources for me to use for a cause.

So, promoting your website offline — do you do it, and how do you do it?
