College Matters

May 24, 2007

College life isn’t as memorable as High School but it is pretty much easier than what you expect. Friends can never be found during the first day, maybe a couple of acquaintances but i tell you, they will only act as your security blancket parang “pampa-lubag loob lang”(not general). I remember the first day of my college life when i never talked to anyone except my batchmate. For me kasi, its good to know them better before you befriend him/her so that you’ll not be disappointed and yu’ll not have to experience what I experience. (not includes the whole story). Anyway, here are my tips for your College survival.

  • Know your Friend but dont be so friendly to get rid from abusers
  • Know your professors
  • Attendance is a must
  • give your best shot in Quiz

“No man is an island”. Friends are really essential this college especially when some announcements are conveyed though text. Aside from that, you’ll never discover the true happiness of studying without friends specially when yu’ll be having a group work, group review or just a simple deviant act like bullying your teachers at the back and the like. All of that can’t be achieved alone. On the other hand, being so friendly in the class is not ideal (unless if otherwise stated), you can be kind but not too frinedly because they will abuse you maybe in Money (pa-libre) or intelligence (pa-kopya).

Shrek 3

May 24, 2007

Warning: Few Spoilers Ahead! To tell you honestly yesterday was the first time I’ve ever watched Shrek and at the same time an Animated movie in the big Screen! I love to watch “Whispher” instead but my friends were provoking me choose Shrek and so i did.

GOOD POINTS:I find the Movie good and humorous. I love this specific scene when King Harold “the Frog” was about to die and he was having a hard time to tell who’s going to be the next King, it was so funny. I also love the new image of Snow White, She’s super annoying yet yu’ll find her attitude cool and funny. I like SW when She sang again those High pitch notes to summon birds and animals so as  to attack the “tree guards”. I like to see again all the interesting characters in one movie like Rafunzel (She was an antagonist here in the end), The wolf in the Little red.., the cute cookie (i dont know the name), Merlin “The Wizard”, Captain Hook, Snow White of course, the 3 pigs (i dont know what’s their group name), Pinocchio and more… Lastly, the most beautiful part of the story was the Grand face off presentation between Shrek and Prince Charming.. so just watch nalang….

BAD POINTS: I dont like the start of the movie and the next few boring scences between Fiona and Shrek. I dont like the way they exaggerate a scene with Shrek when he was about to present as the new King in front of people… parang walang dating sa akin.. + Artie was not so convincing.. pang-gulo.. plus there were lots of dragging scenes in the start of the movie.. medyo maantok ka talaga sa simula.

Masarap ang Bawal: The May 14, 2007 Story

May 24, 2007

I know it’s been 10 days since some Filipinos exercised their right (and social responsibility) to vote, but I didn’t want to jump in on the election fever bandwagon for a while. But since I’m feeling better now about some things, I’d like to share a serious peeve of mine during the whole brouhaha.

On the way to the school where my parents were supposed to vote, I immediately noticed kids and adults alike distributing sample ballots and other campaign paraphernalia to the newcomers. They’d really follow the voters and force them to accept their “gifts” up to the gate of the school, where they’d just linger and watch the people. The whole place was so much of a mess that you’d think it’s a fiesta of sorts in the area.

We parked a couple of meters from the school. As soon as my dad got out of our family vehicle, a man approached him and gave him some things.

Music Break: “Stormy Night” by Pedicab

May 23, 2007

Pedicab is Raimund Marasigan’s “other” band (aside from Sandwich), but this group is anything other than “others.”

The band classifies their music as “dance-punk,” and their use of vintage analog synthesizers creates an 80’s synth-pop feel into their tracks. Having a music video director (RA Rivera) as part of the band, Pedicab’s live performances are always a sight to behold. One of their on-stage antics includes wearing MMDA Traffic Enforcer uniforms.

The song “Stormy Night” is from their debut album “Tugish Takish” released back in 2005, and it sounds as refreshing as it is first played on the radio.

Commercial Break: Firefly Lighting Gives You the Eagle-Eye

May 23, 2007

This has got to be one of the country’s wittiest advertisements yet.

A commercial for Firefly Lighting features its benefit in a exaggerated yet funny manner as the Doña summons her maid for something she finds on the carpet.

Guilt-Tripping and Haggling: The Art of Getting a Broadband

May 23, 2007

I have once cried out of frustration because I knew I could never pay for broadband by myself. A thousand bucks a month? Holy cow! I don’t have that amount of money. I get a little over P2,500 every month for my allowance. I’d just stick to my unlimited dial-up plan for P560 a month (which, by the way, he’s not even aware of). That’s my limit. That’s only what I can afford. And that’s reality for me: I only get what I can afford and nothing more.

Sometimes I’d tell my mom, with a voice loud enough for my dad to hear, Lucky them, the people I know, their parents pay for their internet. Not that I want a reward for everything I do, but my parents have never given me anything in exchange for a high grade, an honor, a medal, a trophy, and other what-have-yous. Well, except one time years ago when I was dared to ride the Space Shuttle for a thousand bucks. And I didn’t even get it anyway. I used guilt-tripping even when I was in high school, but it never worked. Angie was Top 10 in class, and she gets P500. I was ranked 2nd, and I get nothing. Can’t we just go eat out to celebrate or something?

No.

But I got used to it so I just let it go.

island camp…

May 23, 2007

im back! oh yes, the island getaway was so much fun and as promised, i am posting a few pics (as if this is considered few) and would be telling you all about the trip. first off, i have to state that my schedule to Donsol, with the whale sharks, the next day was cancelled. so sadly, im forced to put off my meeting with the big thing. *sarcastic smile* and instead, spend the rest of my day exploring the beach (which is a fishing village actually) along Behia, Magallanes.we had to wait for the national christian youth fellowship (cyf) president first for we were tasked to meet up with her and be her guide, accompany her on the way to the camp site (that’s because my friend ‘the president of the south bicol cyf’ was under the impression that we knew exactly how to get there, yeah keep dreaming, well i guess we did, a bit). this was the cause of our departure’s delay.

remember too that, that day, i had no sleep yet because i came out from work, went home to get my things, and went straight to the meeting place. having to wait for more than three hours out on the city with no bed whatsoever is tedious and totally exhausting. not to mention money wasting due to the only resort of entertainment we could focus on at that point was EATING. realizing the travel time that we had to endure later on, the exhaustion was multiplied to the nth power even before the journey.

On Filipino Gay Rights and Extra Men Rights

May 23, 2007

Unleash your inner gay.

Not that I’m asking you to be a gay but if you are one or planning to be one, now would be a good one to wave a rainbow flag in front of your door. Why? Because the third kind is under fire from Congressman Benny (a guy’s gay name for Ben) Abante.

Apparently the re-elected homophobic solon from Manila swore that he would “always block” the proposed gay rights bill saying that this was a preparation for legalizing gay marriage. He even goes on to say that the bill was like giving additional rights to prostitutes (as if the one bang, one round wasn’t enough!). Amen to that brother (he’s also a pastor of a christian movement here in the country)!

Masigasig, Go Negosyo on TV

May 22, 2007

For people trying to start their own businesses, I suggest you set an alarm in your cellphones to sound at 6:30 pm of every Saturday to remind you of Masigasig, a television show on entrepreneurship at QTV Channel 11. The show, sponsored by Globe, provides advice from leading business experts, money-make overs, and the latest on Globe products and services. Not sure, but I think the show is sometimes hosted by Arnel Ignacio, sometimes by Jolina Magdangal, both entrepreneurs themselves. Read the full post at Pinoy Seminars.

Amazing!

May 22, 2007

amazingIt’s Monday today and the word is Amazing! And this morning I woke rather early than usual. It is because I wanted to start my week as a busy bee. I have this ritual, that Monday should be perfectly devoted to work of any kind so that the rest of the week would be productive (I’m a mild OC remember?). At about six am, I did my routine chores; watering the garden; walking my two dogs (Halle and Mielle); feeding the mutt; cleaning their kennel; herding my father’s goats (yeah we have them, those with horns, beards and everything…); and then finally taking a shower and doing what a typical bachelor would do (procrastinate in the bathroom, shave the beards and mustache, and leaving everything on my room just as I wanted them to be). After I ate my breakfast, I went to my review center for my review (of course!), and on the way to my destination, I rode the jeep because my mom, my brother in law and my sister left early with our service leaving me with no choice but to commute. On the Jeep, I had this woman on my left. She was loud in handing her payment for the ride.

EMPATHY BELLY: the best way to educate men about pregnancy

May 22, 2007

A few days back I watched a show in British television about the next chapter of the life of a famous glamour model and Page3 girl Jordan and Peter Andre. In the program Peter was made to wear an empathy belly and go about doing the activities of a pregnant wife like going up and down the stairs, picking stuff from the floor, sitting in the chair and driving a car, etc.  It was quite fun to watch as well as educational.

Indeed the empathy belly is an important tool to show the husbands the physical aspect of how it feels like to have a bump. Invented by Linda Ware of the Birthways Childbirth Resource Center Inc., it took five years of professional testing and evaluation including the analysis by the National Institute of Safety and Health.

It is a tool that has a big impact on the effectiveness of teaching by counselors, nurses and midwives, family planning instructors and childbirth educators. Originally this is designed for the said purpose but ITV television took one step further; to educate husbands or expectant fathers about real difficulty experienced by their pregnant wives throughout the duration of the pregnancy.

Notes On A Saturday

May 22, 2007

Originally posted in Misterhubs.blogspot.com:

Friday night had segued into Saturday morning but I was still wide-awake, on a mission to find, with the aid of Google, photos of animals (rhesus monkey, preying mantis, horse) for my next blog entry entitled “Local Celebrities and their Amazing Animal Look-Alikes.” By 3 am, I had almost everything I needed (the only one I couldn’t find was Baby Arenas’s look-alike, an albino puma) so I decided to go to bed like the rest of Metro Manila.

Four hours later, I was awake, dry-coughing and feeling feverish like the weather. I sent hubby a text message, telling him “I’m not feeling well”, which, de-coded, meant “I’m sorry. I can’t drive you today like I earlier promised.” He called, said it wasn’t a problem, and we both agreed to meet each other later, around 10 am, my place, after his back treatment.

After the brief phone chat, I tried to re-sleep but couldn’t due to my non-stop coughs, which were beginning to sound like the canned percussion sounds from an old Yamaha organ. With as much energy as a limping zombie, I got out of bed, had breakfast, showered, and waited for 10 am.

Prudence and Madness in Manila Bulletin’s Blog-O-Rama

May 21, 2007

dsc01338.JPG Who would have thought that Ms. Annalyn Jusay of Manila Bulletin’s Blog-O-Rama will take notice of this lowly doctor’s blog? But then, she did. And I’m particularly flattered and excited that she took notice. I don’t know if my blog is hot stuff like that of Misteryosa and Mae Paulino’s blog, which have also been featured in her column. But then, maybe I do offer some uniqueness in the world wide blogosphere. After all, it is not everyday that one encounters a blogger doctor, right? Haha. I think I should ask Ms. Annalyn why she chose to feature my blog. But anyway, I’m happy to be seeing my own words and header image printed in color in a newspaper. :-) If you can’t hunt for a Manila Bulletin newspaper at this time, maybe you’d just like to read the online version or just continue reading this post

Bantayan Island, Cebu, Part 2

What happens in Bantayan Stays in Bantayan…

…Or not, as I’m obviously about to share the things we did during our 4-day 3-night stay at Kota Beach. Here’s a day-by-day account of our list of activities, which as I’m sure you’ll find out after reading, will tell you that you won’t get bored in Bantayan Island.
