13 Names and Titles of Aragorn of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

  1. son of Arathorn (He was born on March 1st 2931)
  2. Estel (Arathorn II, Aragorn’s father, was slain and Gilraen, Aragorn’s mother, brought him to Imladris. Elrond received him as foster-son and gave him the name Estel, meaning Hope, and his ancestry was concealed.)
  3. Thorongil (Between 2957 and 2980 of the Third Age, Aragorn undertook his great errantries and journeys. In this time he also served Thengel of Rohan and Ecthelion of Gondor under the name ‘Thorongil’)
  4. Chieftain of Dunedain of Arnor (The title taken by the heirs of Isildur after the loss of the kingdom of Arthedain)
  5. Captain of the Host of the West
  6. Bearer of the Star of the North
  7. Wielder of the sword reforged, victorious in battle whose hands bring healing (Aragorn’s sword is Anduril, Narsil re-forged. Narsil was the sword of King Elendil used in the War of the Last Alliance against Sauron. Sauron slew both Elendil and Gil-galad ,and Narsil broke into two pieces beneath Sauron. Elendil’s son and heir Isildur then used the hilt-shard of the sword to cut the One from the hand of Sauron.)
  8. The Elfstone (the Stone of Eärendil, is a famous green jewel that Galadriel gives as a gift to Aragorn just before the Fellowship of the Ring leaves the wood of Lothlórien.)
  9. Elessar of the line of Valandil
  10. Strider (Name known by the hobbits when they met him in Bree.)
  11. Envinyatar, the Renewer (A high name and title claimed by Aragorn after the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. It refers in a literal sense to his renewal of the Kingship of the Dúnedain, and so to the renewal of the hope of Men.)
  12. King of Gondor (He claimed the kingship after the fall of the Dark Tower and the passing of Sauron)
