Acupuncture To Lower Blood Pressure?
Fancy having needles on your arm? Perhaps you will, if you’re hypertensive and you don’t like popping pills.
A study published in the Circulation, an American Heart Association Journal, was billed the first rigorous, randomized trial in the west to test acupuncture against a sham needle technique to treat hypertension. It suggested that, if performed properly, acupuncture may lower blood pressure change as much as what monotherapy does in mild to moderate hypertension.
In the study, 160 patients (age ranging from 50-66 years old; 78 were men) with uncomplicated arterial hypertension were randomized in single-blind fashion to a 6-week course of active acupuncture or sham acupuncture. Seventy-eight percent were receiving antihypertensive medications. Of the 160 patients, 140 finished the treatment course. For the acupuncture group, there was a 6.4 mmHg difference from the baseline while there was a 3.7 mmHg difference for the sham acupuncture. However, the mean systolic and diastolic pressures of those in the active acupuncture group returned to pretreatment levels (baseline) after 3 and 6 months.
Sounds good, doesn’t it? Good news perhaps for those who are in favor or are fond of acupuncture treatments.
But do realize that, as was said in the study, the effect of 6-week course of continuous acupuncture treatments will only last 3-6 months. So, in order to reap the full benefits, one must continue the acupuncture treatments for a longer period in time. Also, for people who can’t even put to mind popping one or two pills in a day, going for acupuncture treatments daily would be more demanding of time.
Pulling of the Strings….
Sparked by pinoyblogero, I went to use advantage of the Firefox’s built in RSS news feeds and saw that Paris Hilton is returned to another ‘treatment facility’ rather than being what she expects a house arrest.
Hilton will stay for a few days at a treatment center at Twin Towers jail in LA for medical and psychiatric examination to determine which jail she will be sent to. She had been held at the Century Regional Detention Centre in Lynwood, California, in a special unit for celebrities,public officials, police officers and other high-profile inmates, and has so far served five days of her sentence. No details of the medical problem have been given for “privacy reasons”.
Some of you may think that its unfair for years in prison with normal treatment turned to a 45-day sentence with separation from other inmates a big injustice and crime but actually, it’s not.
Thats so reality, ( I like it )

It won’t take long for an experienced photographer to spot a person’s angle and find his/her “X” factor, the rest depends on his/her talent. As they say, the eyes are mirrors of the soul. The first time our eyes met, I could not take off my lens for a closer shot of this lady whose name is Jeli Mateo. Aside for her looks, body, and the way she entertains people, her voice was so cool. Jeli started as a model, product endorser. She moves on singing, then joined the Search for Pilipino Idol. Now, she’s modelling, hosting and singing. All she needs now is a composer, someone who can compose a song which she can interpret with her soul, an original composition that can be identified as “Jeli” herself. Judging from her looks and talent, she’ll go a long way maybe to equal if not supass Regine Velasquez. Usec. Rivera really knows how to spot and develop talents when he sees one. Watch how Jeli sings “One Note Samba” on Sunday at 10:00 to 11:00 p.m., NBN Channel – 4 at Pilipinas Ngayon Na!
