Gretchen Barreto, Ruffa Gutierrez, and Paris Hilton
… what do these women celebrities have in common?
Gretchen Barreto and Jon Estrada scandal. A few days ago, pictures of Greta and Jon in what appears to be a display of intimacy, were circulated to the masses via the internet. Sisters, close friends, showbiz acquaintances have all been supportive and did everything they can short of admitting they were the ones who maliciously distributed the pictures. And here comes Jon, apologetic, taking in the responsibility, shouldering the burden and all the fault. Gretchen? She’s the victim here or so she has acted like it. But looking at the pictures – the “victim†is too comfy for the role. I wonder why everyone turned overprotective of her? For fear of Tonyboy’s talons? I can imagine Gretchen’s knees shake the minute she saw what happened to the pictures.

Celebrating Father’s day
In a few days it will be Father’s day. I feel there isn’t much of a hulabaloo about this day than what usually happens with Mother’s day. I wonder why?
I have been celebrating my father on Father’s day for years. Now I am celebrating two fathers, my husband included.
And on this year’s Father’s day I celebrate the following about my father:
- Unlimited patience
- Extensive knowledge
- Strong will
- Devotion
- Faith

Paano Kaya Kung Naimbento Na Ang Blogging noong 1898?

An Unending Revolution?: Some thoughts on teaching Philippine history for the 21st century
History is not merely a record of the past. It is not a regurgitation of chronicles or tomes. And above all, it is not a grocery list of names, dates, places and events.
It is a story with a beginning, a middle and an end; it is rewritten every time inasmuch as it is retold. And like all stories, it is an interpretation of reality as seen through the eyes of a writer. It carries with it a message which the writer hopes is sufficient for us to affect our own realities. Any story without that ambition is empty and hollow.
By default, we believe that history is taught so that we can learn from the mistakes of the past. That is not necessarily so. That too is an artifice created by the historian. History can be used similarly to repeat the mistakes of the past (just don’t label them as mistakes) or to justify past acts contrary to our present values. I also find this position tenuous since what we may perceive as mistakes today may have been the best choice during that time. Hindsight, after all, is always 20/20.
And history is not a science of hindsight. More importantly, it is the very art of foresight.
Today we celebrate our 109th Independence Day. Lately, I have felt that the story of our Independence Day has become empty and hollow as the date has been juxtaposed with headlines that state the obvious — the Maguindanao CoCs have been stolen! Is this what we have come to? Is this what we have done with our freedom from tyranny? Sure no society can be perfect, and so I need not point out that over a century since our independence, we still have political killings, poll fraud and vote fixing.
And all this we can trace to the very first elections held for the Malolos Republic.
My Personal Apologies to Magdalo and the 2010 elections
Anyways, I just couldn’t find a word to sum up the past May 14 senatorial elections, maybe a phrase then would aptly describe it. I was thinking of describing it as something short of a miracle (Fr. Ed Panlilio and the Josons losing the gubernatorial seat comes into mind) but then again when I think of Maguindanao and all the 130 election related murder cases I can’t help but think that the Philippine Elections is the devil’s easter (maybe that’s a bit too strong but it’s pretty close, like a level lower). That and the counting of ballots moving like bullet time but who could blame the teachers? Who wouldn’t count slowly when you got a gun pointed at your head while the rooms are being burned down by some spineless dick heads? Better yet who would wanna count when you’re being burned alive (God bless their souls and may they be welcomed into the pearly gates of heaven)? It seems like the only thing that the COMELEC would unwillingly burn these days is the 1.3B pesos fund for the automation of the 2004 Presidential elections. Oh wait, they did burn that money for the computers that would’ve counted the votes. Apparently those computers never saw the light of day on that May 2004 elections but the 500 million of the 1.3 billion pesos is safe somewhere in a private bank account (or accounts, who knows how deep this is?).
Bakit Hindi?
Bakit hindi holiday ang June 12? Araw ng Kalayaan ngayon. Bakit first day of school sa U.P.? Bakit may pasok?
