Ramblings Over Coffee

dsc01621.JPG

A cup of coffee, a cigarette, something to read, something to write on, and music…what more can you ask for? Ah yeah, a laptop with internet connection…

Again, today, I found myself in my new hang-out. That is, after watching Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix around lunchtime. I’ve decided not to make a review of the movie simply because there’s nothing much to say about it. As someone who loves reading the books, it is expected that I’ll go see the movie. It is also expected that, because I love the books, I’ll hate the movie. But, no, I didn’t hate the movie. I don’t love it, either. It’s just an okay movie for me, I guess. I won’t mind watching it again, but I’m not exactly raving about how good the movie is or how brilliant the production was. I’m a Harry Potter fan. So, I just like it. Period. Or rather, I just want to put the Harry Potter Topic on hold for the meantime. Will be sharing an anecdote related to it. But not just now. It’s still percolating inside my head. Right now, I choose to bore you with my newfound love, my new hang-out. I’m not new to the place, but I’m not exactly a frequenter just yet. I haven’t explored the whole area so last Monday, I took the opportunity to look around and see the stores. No, I didn’t go at it systematically, like floor-by-floor. I went where my feet would take me.

It seems that I always go look for coffee shops whenever there is a new place to explore. But seeing this, indeed, made me sad. Not enough to stop me from wandering still, though. Maybe I was thinking there’s still something better in store for me that day.

And here’s my reward:

Batasayti, the project

A few days ago I started Batasayti, a personal blog/project which aims to compile material on information technology (IT) law and policy in the Philippines and in other Asian countries. Hopefully, the blog in time will be of good use to IT practitioners, law students, and others. If you support this project, please link to the blog using the text “information technology law Philippines”. By doing so, you will help increase the searchability of the information contained there. You may also point out material which you feel should be included in the compilation. I will add them ASAP. Thanks ahead for the help.

Maruja, Svelte, and the New Rivalry

Svelte and I have been brewing a rivalry between us for the past days. We just do not agree on one thing and it is starting to affect our friendship in a way.

It started last Monday, we went out on our office break. After indulging on some rather expensive (but uber yummy) pasta and one-of-a-kind mint chocolate chip ice cream, we passed by a convenience store near our office building.

And then I saw it, a feast to our hungry eyes. It’s the new UAAP issue of Chalk Magazine. College basketball has begun and everyone goes bonkers in this side of the Third World, especially that De La Salle Green Archers are back after last season’s suspension.

Deadma if the magazine’s layout became a poor man’s Harper’s Bazaar. Deadma if the magazine included that “other” collegiate league. Deadma if we kinda not looking forward for Santo Tomas Growling Tiger’s defense of our basketball championship. What really caught our attention was the “main” cover, featuring the age-old rivalry of Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles and La Salle on a different plane. That is, their latest hottie players.

Come on, if you see this cover wouldn’t you buy it as well?

Hingang malalim (breathe deeply),” I teased Svelte before opening the mag.

You need to breathe deeply, too, before jumping. *Inhale, Exhale* Okay…

Philippines Next Top Model: Street Glam in Hong Kong

Finally, after 48 years, Philippines Next Top Model website updated its photo gallery.

Although the codes were a little f’d up (you can’t view the gallery containing these pictures), I learned my way around. It’s good to see that their shoots during the show’s final episode redeemed the season from one dismal theme after another, even if this outdoor shoot screams “guerilla” all over. (Afraid of getting caught perhaps? Maybe I’m wrong.)

The BANGIS AWARD after the jump. (Oooh…I missed this one!)

Random Hot Men: Jiri Borkovec Versus Johan Karouani, The Showdown

Several readers in my blog commented that Jiri Borkovec (left) should not have won the recent Musclemania 2007 Junior Tall Division. They claimed that Johan Karouani of France (third from left) deserved it more, even though he was eventually disqualified from his third place finish. (Je seulement me suis renseigné en ce moment sur lui. J’espère que mon traduction en ligne est exacte.)

What a better way to settle the score is to have these two Adonises on a showdown, with the one and only Empress Maruja as judge! Oui? Oui!

I want to emphasize that I am not an expert in this. I may say some incorrect bodybuilding terms, so please correct me just in case. Merci.

Let’s begin!

High Society Blogging?

During the time that I was still getting myself familiar with blogging, I have always thought that blogging is only exclusive to the members of high society. Something like a past time for those coños living in Ayala when they get tired of spending their cash on not-so-important things.

Why did I have such a thought?

Go look around the blogosphere at that time and you would know what I mean. Read posts of other blogs and look at their pictures. If I don’t see them casually typing on their newly bought laptops, most of them are enjoying a cup of coffee in an expensive looking coffee shop. There wasn’t a single time that I have seen a picture where a blogger was holding a pen, writing on a piece of paper, enjoying a glass of gulaman with a squatter’s area as the backdrop.

Kidd: Aba, may laptop na po kayo, Kuya Karlo?
Karlo: Props lang yan, Kidd. Kuha mo pa nga akong gulaman.

But that was years ago. Blogging was still new here in the Philippines and the only ones who got to know about it first were the ones who had access to the internet.

Involve us as we dream of living

Funny, I remember what one doctor said during a health seminar in a business my family is engage in. He said, people have to take time to expose their sex organs in the heat of the 7:00 – 8:00 sunlight. He didn’t mean in public. (No one would do so. Ha ha ha!). Folks can do this even in their rooms where sunlight strikes in.

We were stunned and then laughed. But considering it, indeed its very important for our reproductive health. We are often advised to go walking, jogging or even just stand under the early morning sunlight because it is healthy. However, the whole body is not benefited since our reproductive organs are covered. Makes sense, isn’t it?

This is why some people build their houses with attics roofed with glass for light to pass.

The point is, there is the presence of reproductive health, especially for the youth. And we must deem this important. If we regard latest thingamabobs significant for us, how much more for our organs?
