‘Medyo-crity’
In my alma mater, there are some instructors who have stayed in the college circles, working as staff, serving the college for several years and still stagnant. I mean, no promotions at all.
Somebody asks the academic council about his currect status, “I’ve been here in the city college for a couple of years, but why am I not promoted?”
When I heard that statement (from a friend), I also questioned why. I believe he has been their in the institution since his no-wrinkle years. But why wasn’t he promoted?
Pondering over the issue, I knew, there are many employees round the country who asks that, too. But later, I remembered what Mr. Francis Kong said in a seminar on “Life’s Winning Points”. The same why-am-i-not-promoted? question was asked to the boss, Mr. Kong told us. The boss eloquently answered, “Why? What have you done?”
A slap on the face of the employee.

If I Were
Sometimes there is this one point in our life that we began to wonder or question something. The most common are the “what ifs” or “if I were” questions. So in the spirit of Wonder Woman I am creating this meme where one writes 3 or more pointers about the stuff he/she wonders about if he/she is of the opposite sex.
Okay here goes mine:
If I were a girl…
… I will probably be a model if I manage to keep my measly height of 5′10 or a Ms. Universe candidate!
… and endowed with a nice rack and figure I will surely wear sexy and inviting outfits that scream bite me!
Cameron Diaz and Victoria Beckham. I just love those outfits they are wearing!
Who owns Mendiola?
Protesters need not thank Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim for allowing rallies in Mendiola every weekend. Mendiola is the country’s historic freedom park. Rallies should be allowed there even without city hall permit. Malacañang has no reason to panic that an angry mob will storm the Palace again through Mendiola. Gate 7 is already closed and electric fences were constructed to ward off protesters. Allowing rallies in Mendiola will ease traffic in Morayta, Recto, España and Legarda where rallies are usually blocked these days.

Reading Matters: The Anecdote
Author’s Note: Here’s the little anecdote I said I’d be sharing (as mentioned in my previous post). The anecdote is short, but there are ramblings that follow…
My wanderings inside the mall usually take me to bookstores. One fine day of wandering, I reached National Bookstore (NBS) and found this:
It slipped my mind that I shouldn’t be going anywhere near NBS during those days because it’s the time of the year when classes start and almost everybody and their mother/father are in NBS to buy school stuff. It’s not best time for bookhunting.
But remembering my need to replenish my paper supplies, I surged on and braved the crowd of confused kids in uniform, uncertain of which notebooks to buy (the one with the Garfield cover or the Hello Kitty one?), and irritated parents who get bumped on all sides by the raging stream of sweat-covered and heat-conducting bodies.
I emerged triumphant with my bundle of folders and a ream of bond papers. I was patiently waiting in the long line at the cashier when I heard this conversation between a high school girl and her father:
Friday the 13th
Seems like today is a special day.
I can only think of the following reasons why today would be special:
- Friday the 13th is considered by many a “bad luck” day. Information in Wikipedia further details that – “Some people are so paralyzed by fear that they are simply unable to get out of bed when Friday the 13th rolls around. The Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute estimates that more than 17 million people are affected by a fear of this day.” I stopped believing in bad luck the minute I developed a brain.
When Dad Day Becomes Bad Day
Its Father’s Day. I woke up early around 7am. Got my cellphone, then type a greeting message that I would send to every Dad on my phonebook. After almost 3 minutes adding different numbers , my celfone suddenly went poof! It’s lowbatt, and guess what. I left my charger at the office, its an old school Smart Amazing Phone so I won’t bother to ask anybody if they had a charger that I can borrow and worst of all my I can’t even use my sim card thru their phones because my phonebook is saved on my cellfone! Waaaahhh!

Ever since the start of our classes in Mapua, I had already thought of adjusting my posting frequency here in Pinoy Blogero to give myself a break from all the posting. From one post a day, I am thinking of lowering it to five posts a week. This gives me two days of rest for the whole week.It was actually my girlfriend who kept on nagging me to get at least a day off from all the blogging. She pointed out that I am still a student who needs to focus more attention on what students ought to concentrate on.
After giving it some thought, I realized that she has a point. It really is still too early for me to pursue a career on blogging and go gung-ho with posting everyday. And to convince myself even more, I have listed below the advantages of lowering my posting frequency here in Pinoy Blogero. You can read it too, who knows when you actually might think of adjusting your own posting frequency for your blog.
The Search for the New White Castle Girl
Last Saturday, I was channel-surfing when I saw Lucky Manzano being surrounded by several girls in red bikinis. Then in a minute, I saw Roxanne Guinoo and her commercial for White Castle. I knew Roxanne was the new White Castle Girl, but I didn’t think ABS-CBN would even dare do a reality search for the next White Castle Girl. I was like, “What the hell will the girls do, pagalingan sumampa at magpa-cute sa kabayo?” I was joking when I said that to my ate who was laughing at my remark. But lo and behold, after just minutes of tuning in, the wannabe White Castle girls did do a challenge on “who will exude utter confidence and grace” while riding that damn horse. Geez, how predictable. And the qualities that the show requires of the next White Castle Girl?:
Bukod sa MAGANDA’T SEXY, DAPAT CHARMING, MAY LAMBING AT MAY CONFIDENCE.
Please define MAY LAMBING. I’m having trouble understanding the context of that term in this reality search. Weird.
The Search for the New White Castle Girl will be on for the whole month of July, every Saturdays on ABS-CBN. I forgot the time but I think it was around 9-10pm.
When Sandara Park shed her skin in a men’s magazine eons ago, I wasn’t shocked. Actually, I was grossed out; she looked like a minor dressed in a dominatrix outfit. Then of course, a lot of teeny bopper stars followed: Camille Prats, Angelica Panganiban, that VJ Karel and even Chito Miranda’s girlfriend, Kaye Abad (correct?). And now, even Roxanne Guinoo has followed that doomed path. I don’t get it when wholesome/pa-tweetums actresses say that they want to prove to everyone that they’re capable of mature roles via stripping and posing suggestively in men’s magazines. Would producers and entertainment executives really get fooled by anyone just because they’re wearing skimpy outfits and teeny-weeny bikinis? Of course, not all mature roles would require you to do a love scene or do a torrid kissing scene or do a dirty dance number. Maturity in roles doesn’t always demand showing off your skin: it entails an actor/actress to be a master of their craft, of acting and not of modelling.
In this country, anyone who looks good enough is already eligible for stardom. Have you noticed those cute and really gorgeous newcomers on t.v.? Anyone would fall gaga over them because, let’s be honest, they’re absolute eye-candies. But when taping starts and the cameras would start rolling, these seemingly picture perfect talents would have their big flaw exposed: they don’t have the knack for acting. That’s why stars here would usually start off their careers as cute/innocent/pa-tweetums character. Then after sometime, if they’re really cute, they’ll get to have love teams. But if you can’t get over the cute/innocent/pa-tweetums role off your credit, then that’s a problem. You get stuck in those roles for as long as you live and never will you get the chance to have mature roles.
Honestly, posing for men’s magazines isn’t the only option for young actresses to get noticed. I’m not even sure if the girls who’ve done these have gotten any offers at all. Well, anyway, might I suggest they hone and perfect their craft before doing this pseudo suicide attempt at stardom? I guess, if they have the talent and the capacity to do the demands of acting, then showing off their skin won’t be in their options, right?
