French Version of Survivor in Palawan

Why be excited about Survivor: China…

If we could get more excited about this!
The seventh season of Koh Lanta, the French version of Survivor, had its contestants stranded on the remotest islands of Palawan. It began broadcasting last month.
And apparently, the Philippines is among the most frequent Survivor locations, aside from Malaysia, Dominican Republic, and Panama. Palawan became the site for the Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, and the Dutch/Belgian versions. Meanwhile, the third season of the Japanese version was done in Siquijor.

Commercial Break: Beer? For Lunch?

What on earth were they thinking?
Could this be the cause why Pinoys became a bunch of alcohol junkies?
Watch it after the jump.

Promise.
Would you like to be exiled to Dapitan?

Figure it out: What was it like to be deported and exiled 115 years ago, when there were no telephone, malls, family, and faster means of transportation? And your only link to the world was through a snail mail, which perhaps you could not even depend upon because you fear that perhaps, the Spaniards were prying into your letters to Josephine Bracken or Ferdinand Blumentritt.

A Bitch Attack…Almost
Making my usual rounds of bookstores, I was able to hunt down the elusive George Orwell classic, 1984 (elusive for me because I can’t find it in all the bookstores I’ve gone to). Then, at NBS SM North EDSA, I found it nestled in between Animal Farm (by the same author) and Bleak House (by Charles Dickens), being the result of NBS’ aversion to arranging books alphabetically based on the author’s name. It’s a Signet Classic paperback edition, with a deep black pupil inside a bright blue iris as background of the title.
I might post a review once I finished it and if my clinic and duty schedule do not get in the way.
There were no second thoughts plucking that book from the shelf. One reason is that it’s only P275 and I’ve got P200 in my NBS E-purse. Another reason, the more important one, is that I’d like to know how Eric Blair (writing as George Orwell) played with doublethink in the novel.
And, of course, I bought it because it’s a classic.
Clutching my newfound treasure, I went to the cashier (there wasn’t even a line). She punched in the required codes and numbers.
And then, it happened…

Cinemalaya
To watch Cinemalaya, right where the action is, is one of my 100 things to do (at least for this gap-year). I think there is no excuse to watch at least one film since I can and usually go to the area at least once a week. So there, I did my research and chose my first film. I won’t say anything else in the meantime except for go watch it for yourself! =)

Filipinos Auditioning for The Amazing Race Asia 2

By now, the taping for The Amazing Race Asia 2 has ended and we would probably watch it in around October this year.
According to some spoilers, a Filipino team was among the mix. Question now is: Would they do better than being eliminated first and second the last time? Read more after the jump.

Everyday Islam Photo Contest

A photography competition entitled “Everyday Islam” has been launched to depict Muslim life in the Philippines, following the example set by UK-based and internationally renowned photographer and Muslim convert Peter Sanders.
The competition aims to popularise shared aspirations and concerns of Muslims and non- Muslims, in order to promote integration and counter messages that tend to emphasise discord and differences.
