Link Exchange? Not so Fast!

“Link exchange?”

I see this line in 3 places: In my inbox especially through the PBS yahoo group, around my blog, and in follow-up comments to those I’ve made in other blogs. Sometimes it makes me wonder how this will all be. If we just keep on exchanging links, that blogroll will grow to hundreds!

A few days a go, I cleaned up my blogroll by taking out a couple of sites I don’t get to read so regularly anymore, and this made me reflect on the entire concept of a blogroll: that list of links displayed in a blog.

When I started blogging in Wordpress mid-April, I first was confronted with THE BLOGROLL WIDGET.

For the Love of Wisdom

The effects of Philosophy. Tsk.Too much rationalizing. Hehe.

I can’t help but purge my brain for something insightful. That’s what I usually do when I have nothing else to do. I think.

And with those thinking sessions, I came up with something worth reflecting to. For me.

Love is a choice. It is, primarily and basically, a choice. It is you who decides whether to love or not. You can fall in love with anybody. Falling in love is different to love itself. Everyone has a notion of love. Some people may categorize love as an inexplainable emotion felt with someone. The way their hearts skip a beat, or when they feel that “somebody takes their breath away”. If someone satisfies your idea of love, you may have fallen in love with that person. But then again, there is a nuance to the situation. Falling in love becomes a myth in search for true love.

Huwag mo nang itanong

Last week pumunta ako sa office ng kaibigan kong si Derrick upang i-discuss ang maiksing project na gagawin ko para sa NGO na pinagta-trabahuhan niya dito sa Phnom Penh. He shares his room with three other people: 2 Cambodians and a Caucasian lady who sounded American. I sat by his desk, poring over some documents, brainstorming and drawing out plans on how the tasks should be done to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. Yung Amerikana was talking to someone on the telephone beside us, and napansin ko na patingin-tingin siya sa amin habang nakikipag-usap sa telepono. When Derrick saw that she had finished her call he introduced me to her.

‘That was remarkable’, sabi niya. Una hindi namin naintindihan ni Derrick kung bakit sinabi niya yun. ‘I have never heard a conversation that seamlessly blended two languages. My friends have told me about it but I’ve never heard it up close. It’s amazing.’

Yun pala yun. She meant our Taglish (Tagalog and English) conversation. We explained to her na sa Pilipinas, ganoon makipag-usap ang maraming tao for many years na. There are many other languages in the Philippines but Tagalog (or Filipino) and English were the languages that were taught in school so most people can speak it. Derrick added that this is easier for him because his mother tongue is not Tagalog but Waray, one of the many Philippine languages.

Bedol gets 6 months

Honestly, I thought Bedol would get off the hook. But then again, Comelec sure did one heck of a clean-up strategy to make the 2007 midterm elections seem spotless.

May I just say that Abalos and his cohorts are really, really obviously stupid . It puts the legal, political and electoral systems to shame that these men (I don’t know if there are any women in Abalos’ commissioners) pretend to dispense justice when in fact they’re twisting it to benefit their boss. Isn’t it clear, isn’t it incredibly suspicious that Bedol would walk away from all his evil deeds by merely giving a thousand peso fine and being jailed after just 6 months?

From Inquirer.net:

According to the 21-page decision, Bedol is guilty of:

• Failing to attend the scheduled canvassing of the provincial certificates of canvass (CoC) of Maguindanao on May 22, the reset canvassing on May 30, and the continuation of a hearing of Task Force Maguindanao on June 14 despite due notice;
• Unlawful assuming custody of the municipal CoC and other accountable election documents of all Maguindanao towns which should have been delivered to the Comelec offices in Intramuros;
• Disrespecting the Comelec by challenging the poll body to file a case against him in court; and
• “Regaling the public through the media with boast of possession of an armory of long firearms and side arms, displaying in public, for all to see…a shiny pistol tucked in a holster and in a combative mode.’”

The people in this country (whether some would give a damn or not) doesn’t need his meager money nor do we want to see him disappear and go to jail for a measly 6 months. No, we do not want that. Personally, I want something heavier, graver than his sentence. Rep. Hontiveros of Akbayan suggests that he should have been charged with electoral sabotage which would give him a life imprisonment. And while we’re at it, why not give his boss the same treatment? That is, if someone can dethrone her from her glorious fake manifesto.

And what about the case of electoral fraud in Maguindanao, the stolen and the missing documents and allegations of TU’s dagdag-bawas? We should not stop inquiring about these things just because Bedol got sentenced. The bigger picture here isn’t sending that baboon to jail; it’s giving our political, electoral and moral systems a push back to being democratic and right. What good would it do us if we see Bedol alone in jail without ALL his cohorts? Wala.

Anak ng tinapay naman o…do they really think Pinoys are too stupid to see what’s going on here? The Comelec is only trying to do a little damage control, that’s all. It doesn’t solve anything!

Second Life of my DVD-ROM

dead dvdrom

Its the first time that I’ve tried upgrading (flashing) firmware on any of my hardware, and a LG DVD Combo would be my guinea pig.  It won’t read DVD’s anymore only CD’s. So I’ve search the internet for some solutions, and one of them is more…

Ways to Make the Wolverine Movie More Epic Than the Bible

So far, this is what we know about the Wolverine movie:

  • Hugh Jackman will be reprising his role as the title character.
  • David Benioff, the dude who wrote “Troy”, is the writer.
  • The movie is a prequel to the X-Men trilogy.
  • Academy Award winner Gavin Hood will be directing.
  • The movie will be released sometime in 2008.
  • That’s it.

There’s not a lot known about the story, but insiders say there are scenes featuring Wolverine in Vietnam, a pre-X-Men love interest, and familiar character names (at least for comic nerds) like John Wraith and Fred J. Dukes (aka The Blob). That doesn’t sound epic enough for me. Good thing I have a few ideas that may help Benioff and Hood make the movie more epic than the Bible.

Quick Blog Tip: Keep an Idea Notebook

Quick Blog Tips from Pinoy Blogero

Have you ever experienced running out of things to talk about on your blog? You try to squeeze your mind for past ideas that you’ve thought up but you still can’t think of any?

I have experienced this problem countless of times during my first few years in Blogging. I remember ending up with half-baked articles whenever I try to force my ideas.

Today, ideas are not much of a problem for me anymore. I now have tons of reserved ideas waiting for me to be made into an article thanks to my “Pinoy Blogero idea notebook”.

Keeping an Idea Notebook
An idea notebook is where I list down every idea that pops out of my head. It doesn’t need to be an actual notebook (Excuse me miss, do you have any “Idea Notebook“?), you could make use of a piece of paper or a text file on your computer, but a notebook is much better because you could take it wherever you go.
