High school reunion

I am watching an episode of Yes, Dear and today Kim, Christine and Jimmy (with Greg) go back to the past by attending their high school reunion. And with all high school reunions, there comes with it the personalities that at one time or another has touched or tormented our hearts and lives.

Some of the personalities they featured in the show were: the coolest guy in class, the dirty old groping teacher, the wannabes (Greg), and the salivating guy who has been forever in love with you.

It made me remember my own high school reunion… oh I never got to go. LOL. It still made me reminisce about my own life as a high school teenager.

I wasn’t unaware of my high school reunion. I get regular updates from my friends. I just chose not to attend. And when I say high school reunion here, it means those alumni events that are not really specific to a batch year but applies more to all alumni. We also had one that was organized by our batch which was timed to be at our 10 year anniversary. I did not attend that either. Nor did I hunger for post parteeh tidbits like I would normally do.

Cupcakes by Sonja

I have heard a lot of hype regarding Sonja’s cupcakes for quite some time now and I am aware that there have been other food bloggers who have already tried these desserts and written about them too. Reading their testimonials, I got excited and for so long have wanted to have a go at these seemingly picture perfect desserts.

I guess you would ask why I did not indulge. One reason really is that I have never stepped foot in the Serendra area since the time it opened to a lot of dining establishments. I have been too busy at work to travel to the Fort area even for Friday lunch outs.

So I made the most of my first trip to Serendra Piazza by visiting the highly popular Cupcakes by Sonja. Despite the rains, my officemates and I went from Bonifacio High Street to where Sonja’s was. I knew I could not leave without the cupcakes that I have been dreaming of for so long.

Apparently, The Top Ten Emerging Influential Blogs of 2007 writing project is still making quite a buzz and waves of stories across our very own Pinoy Blogosphere Blogging Community – but for very different reasons and from very different perspectives.
Oh well, let’s all take a break from that guys. Chill. And remember the good times that was August 1, 2007. Come on, just spare this ten minutes. For peace. Yeah right. Haha.

OFWs are No Heroes

Heroes put on the cape and fly off to save the world. Filipino migrant workers are no heroes, they’re not invincible. Bullets won’t bounce off their eye balls. You shoot them and they’re dead. You lock them up in your house and they’re chattel. You kidnap them, and hold hostage their passports and they’re slave labourers, made to work 12 hours every day. OFWs are no heroes. Read here.

Pusit

You know how it is that people from Sales usually tell the darnedest stories. Most even boarder to blatant BS, the stuff that the inuman-sa-kanto tell-tales are made of. This is based on one of those stories, told to a friend by a guy from Sales. Where he got it, the authenticity, and its veracity is and will forever remain a mystery. Please exercise careful judgment in whether or not to believe.

“Ser, kumakain ba kayo ng Pusit?”

“Ano namang klaseng tanong yan?”

“Pasensya na, ser. Napansin ko kasing parang oorderin nyo yang adobong pusit eh.”

“Hindi. Dito na ‘ko sa menudo. Eto, subok ko ng masarap. San naman nang-galing yang tanong mong yan?”

“Alam nyo naman na mangingisda ako, di ba?”

“…”

“Ang tatay ko, mangingisda. Ang tatay ng tatay ko, mangingisda. Marami pa sa pamilya namin mga mangingisda. Pero lahat kami hindi kumakain ng pusit…”

The case of Malru Fernandz: exorcizing a self-proclaimed diva

A considerable buzz in the Pinoy blogging world has formed around the statements of Manila Standard high society columnist Malu Fernandez in her article “Are you a stinky linky? Or do you smell like a divine divalicious babe?” the most derogatory of which are as follows:

  • However I forgot that the hub was in Dubai and the majority of the OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) were stationed there. The duty-free shop was overrun with Filipino workers selling cell phones and perfume. Meanwhile, I wanted to slash my wrist at the thought of being trapped in a plane with all of them.
  • While I was on the plane (where the seats were so small I had bruises on my legs), my only consolation was the entertainment on the small flat screen in front of me. But it was busted, so I heaved a sigh, popped my sleeping pills and dozed off to the sounds of gum chewing and endless yelling of “HOY! Kumusta ka na? At taga sann ka? Domestic helper ka rin ba?” Translation: “Hey there? Where are you from? Are you a domestic helper as well?” I though I had died and God had sent me to my very own private hell.
  • On my way back, I had to bravely take the economy flight once more. This time I had already resigned myself to being trapped like a sardine in a sardine can with all these OFWs smelling of AXE and Charlie cologne while Jo Malone evaporated into thin air.
  • All in all, it’s been a pretty good summer. Jetting from the Aegean Sea to the Pacific may sound a bit pretentious until you wake up in economy class smelling like air freshener.
