The Curse of the Official Transcript of Records
August 27, 2007

Younger readers, take care of your college grades. I tell you, they’ll haunt you forever …forever …FOREVER!
Because I’m with the academe, I can’t help it that every time I apply for a new job, be it part-time or full-time, I need to submit my Official Transcript of Records.
Although past is past, I still feel humiliated upon seeing those 4 pages of college grades. I repeated a majority of my math subjects, and the rest of my grades were on the edge. It’s like a scar which says, “Yes, in college, I was mediocre.”
busyness
August 27, 2007
Due to my delayed plans of having my own wireless broadband subscription, I was unable to update and get updates of the Ws in the blogosphere. Expenses in my school are gradually piling up so I need to adhere with all these academic and non-academic bull neatly organized on my imaginary table.
And here’s the lame randomizing:
SHARI’s B-DAY (the super duper late update)
Now, I’m having a hard time remembering anything. Which means the beerday party was a total blast!
Oh my God, Shari. You looked so wasted.
I still remember doing a solo flight to Shari’s dark, eerie, creepy place two weeks ago. I’m a self-confessed geographically idiot as far as anyone can remember, landing on the drug addict infested streets of the lower Upper Banlat (ironic, yeah). Since I looked like an angel, I didn’t make it to Shari’s with a bleeding abdomen. And for the first time ever in my whole entire life (how exaggerating), I came in first. (That is, 8:30 pm where the party’s supposed to start at 5:30. Haha). A worried Shari and his (very accommodating) brother Robbie welcomed me at the entrance.
And then the rest of the excessively punctual gang reached the place an hour later. Everything else is history.

Happy 27th!
August 27, 2007
I was having dinner with the wife a couple of nights ago and I realized that the anniversary of when we became a couple was coming up.
“Hey, the 27th is coming up,” I told her.
“Really? Cool.”

Something which I think is worth reading is an article from the September 2007 issue of Scientific American Magazine. All the other articles in the issue are also interesting, and it’s not because almost all the feature stories are about food, fat, and being fat.
Taste Asia Part II
August 26, 2007
I don’t know what is with Taste Asia and my health but everytime there is a blogging event there I seem to get very sick. My sore throat started thursday morning when I arrived at work. I thought nothing of it. By lunch, I had lost my voice. By early evening I was having chills and felt the onset of fever. But I resolved not to miss another big event so I took meds and lots of liquids and braved the chills.
It took us an hour through rush hour traffic to reach Mall of Asia, only to park on the wrong side of mall ending up having have to walk a thousand miles to where Taste Asia is (on the other side!).

Goodbye Pinoy Tube, Welcome Iyot Tube
August 26, 2007
Yes, the amazing Filipino brain has done it again. Who could ever think of something so brilliant as iyot tube dot com. I’m not talking about the concept but the name. How creative are we?
The Pinoy Tube (defunct according to a commenter) does not have much difference with iyot tube. The interface varies a bit but the concept is all the same. The layout of Iyot Tube however is a bit disarranged. But when you’re looking for free porn, who cares right?
Revisiting my Past
August 26, 2007
Since I have created Espaniero (An Online Conversation Group for Pinoys), I have been exposed to many historical documents and debates on certain historical issues on forums. From these readings I can conclude that a lot of what is written in our history books are erroneous and biased. Although there are some history books (mostly for college level students) which would present you with an accurate account of the Philippine history uder Spanish rule, many will give you one sided and inaccurate stories of Spanish cruelty to the natives. Some Spaniards were indeed cruel to Filipinos but we shouldn’t generalize them. Some Americans were cruel to us but they weren’t cruel generally. And here I find out the endless power of effective marketing. The Americans took the game as any capitalist will. They successfully wiped out any loyalties to the Filipinos’ former colonial masters and managed to instill in us a love for anything that is American. Now that is a classic example of effective marketing.
A week ago, I myself had this prejudice against Spanish people as being arrogant, snobbish, and unkind. After all, in Philippine cinema, that is how they are being depicted. Name one Filipino movie wherein a Spanish is being depicted as a normal mainstream character. You can’t, ‘coz there are none.
Anyway, I am glad to have come across this readings. Now I know more about Spanish Philippine history. Now I know more than about the atrocities they committed and their seemingly endless bad deeds. Albeit, history can never be told accurately. All historical texts are open to misinterpretation, biases, and alterations.
But I’m keeping an open mind. And to me, that’s all that matters.

Notes to Neo (In search of modern-day Filipino heroes)
August 26, 2007
Morpheus : You are The One, Neo. You see, you may have spent the last few years
of your life looking for me, but I’ve spent my entire life looking for you.
I’m sure that you can still remember this scene from the movie, The Matrix. You almost wanted to be Neo in the movie. Imagine being told that you are someone special and that you are The One. It’s very similar to Jesus’ message as written in the book of John. He said, You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit. How cool would it be if this same message was said to you by someone you look up to? What kind of warm feelings and happy emotions would you feel if your idol or mentor told you that he has been waiting for you all his life and that you are the chosen one.

You Can’t Make Maruja Go to the Gym

Another ten commandments
August 25, 2007
I have come across an article which is called, “Ten Paradoxical Commandments” by Dr. Kent M. Keith. I find these commandments a good read because it involves “politics in life” which may be useful in our day to day interaction with people. These are some good observations which may be true in our experiences in the workplace, in the community where we live or our experiences everywhere. I was able to read a blog called ‘Attitude of Faith‘ from Sonnie’s Porch which sparks and opens my simple and contented mind on life’s reality which also talks about principles in the commandments. A good read on Attitude of Faith coupled with these ten paradoxical commandments are good insights which may be helpful to us in one way or the other.

Black and White negatives or Color negatives.
August 25, 2007
A Black and White Negative is a reversal of the tones in the original scene. Where the scene is bright, the negative develops many dense, dark grains of silver. These dense areas hold back light from the paper, they prevent the formation of silver in the papers emulsion and so creates a bright area corresponding to the bright area in the scene. Where the scene was dark, the negative is thin or even clear. It passes much light to the paper and dark silver is formed in the emulsion, resulting in a dark area in the print.
Color films take advantage of the fact that nearly all colors can be reproduced by mixing only a few basic or primary colors. Color films are made with three color-sensitive layers, each of which records the wavelenghts of lights in a different third of the color spectrum. Colors negative film is processed to be the opposite in colors and density of the original scene; then it is printed onto a sheet of sensitized paper to make a positive color print.
This is why I shoot color films to Print out my Black and White Photos the Classic way. Color films gives more details in my prints. The colors remain true and the tones are richer. I use the actual color photo as a guide when I Hand Tint my Black and White Prints.
Is Barney gay?
August 25, 2007
Anyone who has taken cared of a child would have come across Barney, the purple dinosaur. You will have seen him in various audio and video cds. I receive many of those cds during my own two kids birthdays. They seem harmless enough. The songs are very catchy and kids find it easy to follow the tunes. In fact, my 1-year old’s favorite morning exercise is dancing to Barney and Friends.
Who is Malu Fernandez Part II
August 25, 2007
This post is in relation to my prior blog entitled Who Is Malu Fernandez?.
Indeed, this Malu Fernandez, the one whose name is clouded with controversies, and rightly so, for her insensitivity and bigotry, is not a daughter of my beloved adopted city. Thank God for that!

Hepatitis B is an inflammation of the liver and that is caused by Hep B virus. Acute infection with hepatitis B virus is associated with acute viral hepatitis - an illness that begins with general ill-health, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, body aches, mild fever, dark urine, and then progresses to development of jaundice. It has also been noted that itchy skin all over the body, has been an indication as a possible symptom of all hepatitis virus types. Possible forms of transmission include (but are not limited to) unprotected sexual contact, blood transfusions, re-use of contaminated needles and syringes, and from mother to child during childbirth.
Keep on reading, there’s a reason why I included this in my post.
