7.5% my big, fat a$$

I did not want to spoil my blog by posting political entries, but this one is something that definitely must be addressed by an ordinary citizen if only for the sheer purpose of ranting and raving since I know for a fact that whatever I type in here will be moot and academic because the government decided it is wiser to be deaf and blind to the woes of the public they are supposed to be rendering service to.
The President recently reported an increase in the country’s GDP or Gross Domestic Product, saying it leaped by 7.5 %, thus claiming that the country is fast achieving economic stability and that her administration is successful in its economic programs.
Of course it was expected that along with such news comes people from all walks of life commenting on Mrs. Arroyo’s report. I even saw a coconut vendor being interviewed by ABS-CBN TV Patrol, he was asked to comment and all he said was he cannot say for sure if indeed the country’s economic conditions are improving for he still sells coconut juice along the streets of the metro, something that he has been doing since who knows when.
And then here comes Lakas-CMD Rep. Prospero Nograles of Davao City, allegedly Arroyo’s die-hard fan, este, staunch political ally, who, without batting an eyelash decided that the people simply likes to criticize the residents of Malacanang for they (the people) do not believe in economic figures.
My big, fat a$$.

  1. Why do people like you want the government (not to mention the economy and the country) to fail?

  2. darangsisa says:

I don’t want the government to fail, I never said that. I want them to make things better for the ordinary masses. Look around you, can’t you see how hard people try to live decently without much success? There are thousands of us out there who live on a hand to mouth existence for lack of opportunities, we have hundreds of thousands of OFWs who leave their families behind because they have no jobs here and they come back in coffins or become sex slaves in foreign countries, crime rate is very high because the criminals can’t find jobs to feed their families or simply have too much time on their hands that they resort to drug abuse and end up becoming society’s bad elements.
Do you go to the market? Galunggong now costs P120/kilo, during Cory’s time it only cost P30/kilo. Does that say progress to you?
I am not maligning the government here, I just want to exercise my right as a citizen of this country who pays her taxes and provides employment to the unemployed in our area. I am merely expressing my opinion regarding the subject matter, because, really, I just don’t feel it. I work 12 – 15 hours daily, still my 4 kids are in public schools because we can’t afford to send them to private schools, may mga utang pa rin ako and there are still days when we get all dried up.
The funny thing is, multinational companies are the ones getting rich nowadays, ie: Payless. Masaya na si Juan dela Cruz kapag nakapag-uwi siya ng Payless sa pamilya niya. There was a time when rice was our staple food, I hate to say this but now, it is Payless.
Maybe there won’t be leftists and activists in this country if the government is doing its job or at least not stealing from our coffers. When that happens, I promise you, I will shut my hole.
    :)

Even the most prosperous of countries have high prices. Americans complain about the high cost of gasoline, a can of Coca-Cola in Japan cost about P2,000 each.

The activists will always complain on everything the government does, ignoring the fact that there are government projects that have been helping the people. Have you heard of the One Town One Product project by DOT? How about Go Negosyo? Microfinance? Probably not, because you only see the blatant corruption while looking at the positive with a blind eye.

Activists will always be there no matter what administration we have, even the time when the Philippines was prosperous (from Quezon’s time to early Marcos), there have been rallyists who do nothing but complain and wanting the government to fail.

– I agree with you on this 101%. Kaya nga nagnenegosyo ako e, kasi alam ko kung magiging ordinaryong empleyado lang ako, magugutom din ang pamilya ko. And I wouldn’t be able to provide jobs to 15 families like I do now. I also believe that we, as citizens, must act on our own to make it, wag umasa sa pamahalaan. But isn’t that sad as well? When you think of it, di ba dapat maaasahan natin ang gobyerno?
I don’t like communism, myself, because that would mean rationing and not having what little comfort I and my family have now, but perhaps if our political leaders will put the welfare of the country first before their pockets, hindi ganito kalaki ang margin ng mga mahihirap na tao sa Pilipinas. Bakit kasi may corruption, in the first place? And these public servants, they are supposed to serve, not be served.
My husband’s grandfather was wealthy when he went into politics, he died a destitute, but people from his town speak of his name with so much reverence. I’m not saying dapat yung mga politiko ngayon ipamigay din nila ang ari-arian nila sa mga mamamayan, but, at least have the decency to serve their countrymen with honesty and not steal what little they have.
