Joma Sison’s case
Sison’s activities as an intellectual and uncompromising revolutionary put to shame the career of other celebrated senior citizens. Sison’s unique radicalness teaches the youth that there is no need to be fashionable in order to become a genuine revolutionary. The idealist youth can grow old like Joma instead of regressing to the likes of Juan Ponce Enrile, Fidel Ramos, Raul Gonzales and Ben Abalos.

The Sensible Computer
I’m not exactly a computer expert, but often, people ask me for advice on what computer should they buy. It’s no easy task to buy a computer, especially with all the marketing strategies for really fast processors, loads of RAM, high-capacity hard drives, and so on and so forth.
Now if you’re not that into computing, you would probably spend a lot of money on an ultra-fast PC (or if you’re really rich, a Mac) that you only use for basic computing tasks like word processing. The problem with many computer buyers is that they’re drawn to the marketing strategies more than the sensibility of why they have a computer in the first place.
Selling computers nowadays is a lot like selling snake oil. I’ve seen too many people have PC’s that have everything, but they do very little with it: an Intel 3.6 GHz Core 2 processor, 2 GB of RAM, a 160 GB hard drive, a high-speed DVD-RW, a high-performance GeForce video card, a 5.1 surround sound system, an LCD screen… the works. I would give my left arm for a computer like that (I won’t miss it), but the owner basically just uses it for typing a paper.
To me, high-end computers are for high-end users: these are people who really need the power. Hardcore gamers, computer programmers and those who do animation are well-suited for these extremely powerful computers. If you’re the type of person who doesn’t do any of those things, you might want to consider buying a cheaper computer: a sensible one that gets the job done.

Fruits in Ice Cream
The past few days have been extremely hot. The heat has been unbearable like it was summer all over again. What is worse though, is that the heat comes with humidity. And boy has it been so wet and so humid that even standing still will make you sweat.
And heat will only make me think of one thing… ice cream!

Dear Life,
I’m jealous.
How come when I left no one really seemed to miss me at all? I guess all I’m saying is I wish I had the attention that all my friends got when I too was leaving Brunei. I mean come on, they’ll be back most likely, but me? I’m probably going to be stuck here for the rest of my life.
Not that I really mind. I mean I have grown fond of the Philip of Pines, and it has provided me certain joys and gems, that Brunei never once gave me but has instead chose to throw ice-picks and other sharp objects at me.
It’s not that I really miss Brunei or anything. I mean, of course I miss Brunei, it’s just that after a year and half in the Philip of Pines, you tend to move on and this country does grow on you. I do miss my friends and family over there. I miss the dependency attitude of mine which I could easily cultivate over there. I miss church, but Brunei itself? Not so much.
I’m jealous because it seems that I never really made much of an impact over there. It’s like when I read all those entries of my friends and all those thoughts of people around them, I realized ohmyfreakinggosh did anyone miss me at all when I left or did I just become another once-upon-a-time member of a youth group, once-upon-a-time student of a school, once-upon-a-time living in Brunei.
Did I just waste ten years of my life?
Tribute to yaya
Many people take their nannies and household help for granted. I know a lot of my friends do and sometimes people in my family do too. I have seen many stories on the news about helpers being maltreated by their employers. Others have been raped, starved and even killed.
A Song for Cris Anthony Mendez (Blowin’ in the Wind by Bob Dylan)
How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Every neophyte has to walk down many roads before he can be called Brod(short for Brother). The roads vary from fraternity to fraternity but generally, they include the following:
1) Shock hazing – arranging experiences whereby a neophyte will be startled, frightened, or appalled
2) Test hazing – subjecting a neophyte to a situation from which he or she must extricate himself or herself
3) Hazing by omission – not providing a newcomer with all the steps necessary to complete a task
4) Barbarous hazing – harsh or cruel practices intended to cause physical discomfort or pain
They say that the purpose of hazing is to test the determination of each applicant and to make sure that he is worthy enough to belong and to be accepted in the group as a “brod.” Is it really worth it? Click here to continue reading…
Polar bears in the brink of extinction
We came into this world, everything for free. The air, the sunshine, the water, the land, no one has the authority to own this gifts. You can’t tell other people, “Don’t breathe. I bought this air.” However, what if the dreadful day comes we have to pay the price of destruction? What do you do, just blame life is unfair or worst, pointing other people mistakes?
