Face-Rocking Covers #11: The Flash

I think it’s safe to say that for our comic book geek generation, Wally West is The Flash. But for all the old timers out there, I bet it’s Barry Allen all the way. I can’t really blame them because the deceased Flash was totally awesome. Observe:

the flash

Legend has it that fans had a hard time relating to The Flash and his amazing quickness, so the Flash creative team made an issue featuring a fat Flash. Fans related to the Scarlet Speedster in no time.

Fit for Assimilation

cross-posted from my blog

I don’t know what in the hell is wrong with GMA-7 (well, for one, they have Joey de Leon), but what’s up with “Zaido?”

I was watching the trailer to this new show by GMA-7, and needless to say, I spit at their general direction.  The thing is, not only am I a fan of the original “Shaider,” I’m also a Trekkie.  Fine: I can “forgive” GMA-7 for ripping off “Shaider.”  To mess around with the legacy of “Shaider” is one thing, but Star Trek is another thing.  The similarities to “Zaido” and “Shaider” is one thing, but there’s too much in the way of Star Trek in the ripoff.

You don’t create a podunk low-class episodic series of televised fecal matter while ripping off Starfleet, I tell you!  It was enough trauma to know that Hikaru Sulu is gay, it’s more than enough to know that Captain Piccard is actually gay but still made passes on Dr. Beverly Crusher.  It was more than enough for me to bear watching Tu’vok succumb to emotions even if he was a Vulcan.  But to rip off the Starfleet uniform and Starfleet badges (OK, fine: universal translators) is high treason in deep space: a thing that makes me liable to kill off Dennis Trillo, Marky Cielo, and Aljur Abrenica, and send their remains to the Cardassians so that they can determine if there’s something about us humans that makes us perfectly suited for Borg Assimilation.

Which begs me to ask, why?  I really don’t mind if GMA-7 dubbed Star Trek episodes, even if Mike Enriquez dubbed the Tagalized dialogue for Benjamin Sisko in “Deep Space Nine.”  The thing is, I feel that the network abused my people: we can’t warp to GMA-7’s headquarters armed with phaser guns (the technology has yet to be invented) unless we want Joey de Leon mocking us for being so “uncool” while wearing a t-shirt with a slogan that rubs it in our faces.

Besides, GMA-7 is full of ripoffs as it is: “Impostora,” “Marimar,” and they’ve even went so far as to rip off “Wowowee” (it’s just too obvious).  But why?  I think even the Borg would not dare assimilate us.  We’re so stupid we’re not even fit for Assmiliation.

Really, resistance is futile.  But beam us up, Mr. Scott: there’s no intelligent life on this planet.

BlogRush – A new way to increase blog traffic

I’ve been hopping around on different blogs and I noticed a new trend in some blogs. They are adding this new thing called BlogRush. At first glance, it looks like a list of blog posts from different blogs. I was thinking, what is this for?

Blog Rush

I also got an invite from Karlo.PinoyBlogero to join BlogRush last week. So I went to visit the website and try to learn about it.

What is Blogrush?

From my understanding, blogrush is a type of link-exchange where you show links from other blogs in exchange for showing your own links in other’s blogs automatically.

How does this work?

Every time you show the blogrush widget, you gain one (1) credit. This credit will be used to display your links (blog titles) in other people’s blogrush widget. For example, if I were to show the blogrush widget five times, my blog links will also be shown to other’s blogrush widget five times also.

2 examples of bad blogging practices you should avoid

A few days ago I discovered that I have been linked on somebody’s post. When I read the title, I was surprised. Take a look at the post title below…

Don’t request for ad clicks

The post title has been written in Filipino language to disguise its intentions of cheating. “As thanks for linking up to your blogs, please click on the ads on top. You will lose nothing out of this. God Bless you.” (My attempt for the translation of the post title) I went to the said post and the ads that I see were Adsense ads. The post had no content but just links to other bloggers.

The world’s longest?

Crossposted from my weblog.

LAST Friday, I overheard somebody say this year’s military parade should already be the longest of its kind in the world.

According to Gil de la Torre of the Sanggunian secretariat, the parade involved more than 430 high school and college men and women contingents from all over Bikolandia — from the prominent ones like the marching units of the Naga City-based schools like UNC and the Ateneo, to the most distant public high schools who braved the heat and the long wait.

Why don’t we limit them? I asked Councilor Nathan Sergio early today. That would be difficult, he said. You’re talking about extraordinary commitment — every decision made to join the parade is not a spur-of-the-moment kind. It is made months before — kids, parents, teachers, trainors, school administrators and other bit players have to purchase their uniforms, train hard for the big day (and these would take months), wake up early, prepare logistical support, arrange transport et cetera just to be able to get their moment before the reviewing stand.
