Please join the survey on Filipino bloggers!

I’ve been asked to spread the word about it and so here it is…

Good day! We are a group of Psychology undergraduate students from
the University of the Philippines, Diliman.
For our final study in
our Psychology 118 class (Field Methods in Psychology), we would like
to explore the blogging phenomenon in the Philippines. To that end,
we are asking you to fill out this survey that will help us
understand what motivates you to blog, how blogging has helped you
and how much of yourself is present in your blogs.

Qualifications:
1. Must be a Filipino by blood or citizenship
2. Must be residing in the Philippines
3. Must own and maintain a personal blog

We would like to assure you that we respect your privacy, and will
render all results anonymous. All blog URLs will be deleted after
this study is completed.

If you have any questions about this survey, please email us at:
sikolohiya118(AT)gmail.com. Thanks for your help!

How to Organize Your Travel Pictures

So you’ve applied the photography tips you’ve learned online, took a lot of pictures while on vacation using the principles of looking good, now what?

It’s time to organize your photographs. Here are some tips and tricks.

Do it as soon after the trip as possible. I know you have a myriad of things to do upon getting back but believe me, organizing your photographs is one chore that you don’t want to postpone. Otherwise, you might not have the time to do it at all or worse, your memory might fail you. It’s best done when everything is fresh from your mind. Also, the longer you keep those prints unfiled will expose them to fingerprints, etc.

More tips and tricks HERE.

Suportahan Ta Ka (Vote for Marco Torres as a Torchbearer in the 2008 Beijing Olympics)

Citius, Altius, Fortius (Faster, Higher, Stronger).
                           -Olympic Motto

There is a growing online movement to support Marco Torres in his goal of being chosen as one of eight foreigners/expatriates in China who will carry the torch for the Olympic torch relay. I think that with the growing number of bloggers and internet users in the Philippines, we can all help make this happen. Click here to vote for him.

If you didn’t click the link above, you’re probably wondering why we should support Marco Torres. You’re probably asking, “I don’t know him so why should I support him?”

Good question!

For most of us, the simple answer, “Because our countryman needs our support so that he can best all the other hopeful expatriates in China,” would suffice. But there are those who need more explanations before they give their support. So read on and I hope that after reading this post, you would be more than willing to support Marco Torres. People Watching

A comfortable, upholstered armchair in a not so crowded coffee shop, a regular cup of Chai Tea Latte or a tall cup of Azuki frappuccino, an open notebook for writing, my favorite Parker pen (or even a cheap Uni Pinball sign pen would do), earphones plugged in, my mp3 player playing my coffee chillout playlist, and I’m all set to begin one of my favorite pasttimes — people watching.

In my Coffee Universe, I both look inside myself, mull over things that has happened to me in the recent days and outside myself, looking without interfering at how people go about their lives.

In a way, observing how some people nurse their overpriced coffee and what kind of coffee certain groups of people prefer (for instance, fraps for younger people and hot espress0-based drinks for older folks but these are just hasty generalizations based on what I’ve observed) or who people usually stay with in a coffeeshop (boyfriend/girlfriend/bestfriend/mistress/boss?) is a learning experience, if not entertaining.  After all, most Filipinos, whether they admit it or not, have a taste for checking out what other people are busy with.

Lessons from Estrada’s verdict

The guilty verdict brought against Estrada has shown that the most powerful leader of a country can be punished for violating the law. But this is only possible if the leader is ousted from power.

Decline of the Written Media and the Crisis of Socialism

This is a must read. I printed the following article from the New Left Review and read it while in bed (yes, I’m still sick but I think this viral infection is about to leave my body).

The paper explores the the diminishing stature of the written media and the transition to a more audio-visual oriented culture as a much ignored factor in the present crisis facing the Left. The writer – Regis Debray - is a French intellectual, book writer, professor and journalist.

On a related note, also check out MediaShift for an article on why we love (and hate) print publications. Debray’s paper can be read below in full:

That New iPod Nano Ad

If you’ve seen the latest iPod Nano commercial and heard the raspy voice singing “1,2,3,4 tell me that you love me more…”, then maybe you are one of those who hit the search engines lately in search of the name behind the song.

Bakla Talks to You!

So this is it! All roads led to this entry! As you are reading this entry, we probably are somewhere out there, beneath the pale moonlight! We recently revealed that we are on a quest to achieving multimedia excellence and this surely puts a feather on our cap (etchos!).

Today, we are launching our series of video blogs for Bakla Ako, May Reklamo? and we’re starting the series with a bang! We have collaborated with one of the country’s most influential video bloggers (vloggers) in these first set of videos! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we are honored to have worked with the Hot vlogger Coy of Cokskiblue! Coy is well-known in the blogging community for his artistic and socially-relevant videos. His most viewed video is the controversial Malu Fernandez ode that ANC used in one of their shows without proper attribution.

In these series of video blogs, Coy and Bakla became part of what is deemed to be the country’s first ever quadmedia conference/launch of a stage play. We were there as Tanghalang Pilipino launched the restaging of the award-winning play Insiang (click here for their official website). These video blogs were part of an event which has never happened before, and we daresay that it is indeed an historic event. Among the many once-in-a-lifetime incidents that transpired during the launch was the appearance of the elusive Mario O’hara, whom we heard has never seen his own work, Insiang – not on television, not on the silverscreen and not even through the velvet curtains!
