When thinking of something that goes well together, there are few things in the brain that rushes to the front of the line. Peanut butter and jelly, gin and tonic, coffee and cream, milk and cookies. But we, designers, are a weird bunch, Coudal Partners, a Chicago based design agency thought simultaneously about tennis and designers. Whatever train of thought that led them to that, we might never know, but what came after is a novel and fun website.

Can’t Please Everyone
I think that by this time, my readers already know the small “brouhaha” caused by the movie review of ‘I’ve Fallen for You‘ that I wrote. (Thank goodness, it’s dying now.) Well, that’s life. I can’t please everyone in the same way that the movie can’t please everyone.

Since today is a Sunday, we were lucky enough to have been graced with the presence of the now in-demand INDAY! This household services manager slash governess takes her DAY OFF and talks to Bakla! Filipino culture and economic malaise
The Doing Business 2008 report, an annual study conducted by the World Bank and International Finance Corporation, states that the Philippines ranked 133rd out of 178 economies surveyed in terms of ease of putting up and doing business in the country:
Regulations affecting 10 stages of a business life are measured from the perspective of the entrepreneur. The stages are: Starting a business, dealing with licenses, employing workers, registering property, getting credit, protecting investors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contracts and closing a business.
According to the survey, the Philippines is lagging behind other Asian markets, including India (120th) and China (83th) whose phenomenal growth has made Asia the fastest growing region in the world. [Inquirer.net]
Any local businessman would affirm the findings of the study; the plethora of requirements and paperwork and the inefficiency of the bureaucracy will squeeze too much available capital and occupy too long a time that many entrepreneurs, including budding ones, consider quitting before day one.

Teacher Resources for Filipinos
I have this big dream. It might sound a little too big, though, but I want to start a Teacher Resource website for Filipinos. In the wee hours of procrastinating my lesson plans and/or looking for what good activities I could use in my classes, all are resources for western classrooms.
The Filipino classroom is much more different. We have a quasi standard set curriculum for most schools in basic education. For example, in English, Music and Arts in high school, the first year focuses on Philippine literature, music and arts. In the second year, Afro-Asian. The third year focuses on Anglo-American or western, while the fourth year focuses on the world as a whole.
Well… What I’m saying is… You won’t really be able to find teacher resources on, say, Noli Me Tangere or Philippine History.
The Stillwater Experience
The Husband and I celebrated our 8th year anniversary yesterday. This time, we opted to celebrate it differently by having our own “two-gether” time. The past years, we celebrated with our kids, I usually cook something special for dinner and they (Husband and kids) exert extra effort not to create a stressful environment to make the day special. We also have our own traditional gift-giving, we troop to the mall together and once there, we go our separate ways and hunt for the best gift our money can buy. Sometimes, they can be expensive gifts, other times, just pretty knick-knacks we both can use and not too damaging to the pockets.
