To be in slow-mo
To be honest, this makes my head ache so much I’d rather watch Wowowee. To think that this mindless, pseudo entertainment show would fill the void inside my head seems idiotic, but this just might happen if nothing concrete can be done to these pressing issues. If Abalos escaped a possible impeachment in the Senate by resigning, then our Senators shouldn’t allow this man to evade the Ombudsman. Because even if he resigns from his post, he can still be charged in the Office of the Ombudsman. Abalos thinks he’s smart, but in truth he isn’t. And we shouldn’t let him think that he is; prosecute him and his boss/es. Actually, prosecute and scrutinize even JDV3 and Neri and all the other ‘proponents’ of the ZTE deal just to be fair to all parties.
A Call to Boycott Desperate Housewives? No Thanks.
Most of you may have already heard or read the latest issue in the Pinoy blogging community today which revolves around a particular TV show, called Desperate Housewives, when one of its characters exclaimed a seemingly insulting racial remark against Filipino medical practitioners.
Hatcher’s character actually said this : “Okay, before going further, can I check these diplomas cause I would just like to make sure that they’re not from some med school in the Philippines.” Source
To those who are not aware of the said issue, you can check out the whole story and watch the video clip at the Mindy-TV Blog.
If ever there is one thing that Pinoys don’t like, it would be others trampling and insulting the Filipino race.
As expected, a lot of Filipinos were affected and angered by the said statement. Blog posts of dismay and hatred raged throughout the blogosphere, discussions transpired on comment pages, and copies of the video clip shot through e-mails. With this big of a ruckus, it almost seems like hell is going to break loose.
But such reactions are only normal especially in a community where everybody wants their voices to be heard on a controversial issue. The only thing that seemed out of place were the calls to boycott the show.
Boycott? Now where did I heard that term before?
Problems of context and the oversensitivity of the Desperate
This morning, Reynz and I were talking over GTalk about the Desperate Housewives brouhaha when the topic led me to ask about the Bikolano term “uragon”.
Over the comments at the blog post linked above, I saw her say something about being called “uragon” as an insult when I had the impression that it had a positive connotation. See, the Legaspi chapter of IPMS Philippines – Bert Anido calls itself the Uragon chapter, and that made me think that “uragon” was actually positive thru-and-thru.
Reynz explained that, if a person close to her called her “uragon”, it may sound positive and treated like a term of endearment, but if it was someone else, “uragon” would actually be an insult.

A Young Doubter’s Simple Theological Perspective Examined Philosophically
Now, I am expectantly staring at this blank paper, as if wishing my pen would act on its own to do the job for me; however, the paper just stares back at me blankly. This time, I will meditate through exercising my thinking, doubting, and analyzing skills up to their limitations. I will exert full efforts in attempting Rene Descartes1’ concept of doubting and philosophizing, and then I’ll endeavor to resolve the doubts and questions that had arisen. I will try to doubt every prejudice and preconceived belief I have in mind, leaving no trace of bias and impartiality behind. Honestly, a beginning “doubter”, I found most if not all of the Philo 10 readings quite confusing and to which I am totally unfamiliar to.
I grew up always being told and reminded by my elders of what is good and what is otherwise, of what act is right in God’s eyes and what is not. Since childhood, I have been attending worship services religiously that I could even count my absences in my fingers. One was when I was diagnosed of having an acute tonsillitis-pharyngitis, one when my grandfather died, one when Mama passed away, one when my youngest a-week-old sibling died, and the rest I have forgotten, an early sign of Alzheimer’s, as noticed by my Philo 10 professor. When I came to high school, I studied at a ministerial academy exclusive to our religion. Although the usual secondary education subjects are also taught to us, there are additional subjects like the ministerial lessons and a foreign language elective (which will be useful to us if we continue to college if ever we would be destined abroad after). However, I ended up here in UP. But I don’t have any feeling of regret, though I wonder if I feel the same way upon taking up Philo 10. Yet there’s no doubt that this subject helped broaden my critical thinking skills and stimulated my mind to be “freer” than ever before.

Organic agriculture
Organic agriculture is not the magic pill that will eliminate poverty in the country. But it can increase farmers’ income and “help restore, maintain and enhance ecological harmony.” Organic agriculture will not solve hunger but it can be a key component to realize food sustainability
