The Starter Wife: Book, TV Series, Contests and Promotion
I don’t remember anymore where I first heard about The Starter Wife but it got my interest right away. I chanced upon a copy of the book in Powerbooks Shangri-La and I read the first few pages. As it has always been my practice not to read the book before the movie, I resisted getting myself a copy.
Hallmark Channel premiered The Starter Wife 2 Sundays ago at 9 PM and I was hooked from start to finish. Debra Messing rocked. The subplots about her friends were also interesting. I thought that it was a one-time thing but apparently they’ve made a series out of it. Now, I can’t wait for Sunday.

Daily lesson planning, Part 2
Cross-posted from my weblog.
LAST WEEK in my weblog, I ran a survey on the question “Do Filipino teachers really need to write daily lesson plans?” Though unscientific by its nature, I feel the opinion shared by my readers are worth sharing.
Mi, a student-teacher, said in defense of lesson planning:
“I’ve always been rebellious with regard to lesson planning and following these plans, but one thing I learned — they are helpful. If you make a lesson plan, you’ll have more confidence in delivering your lesson, you know what you want to happen.
“This would be most true to student-teachers and new teachers, as more seasoned ones should have their plans by heart already.”
Tagaytay Vacation and How We Beat Liquor Ban
It was last Sunday that my high school friends (my barkada) and I went to Tagaytay for our second vacation for the year. Though at first we’ve decided on going to Pundaquit, Zambales, there had to be a change of plans because of some work schedule restrictions. Maybe next year we can have a lengthier vacation in a more far-away place. But our Tagaytay trip, though it’s only near Manila, is still one of our most enjoyable ones.
And yes, it was another adventure because it will be my first time public commuting to Tagaytay. Feeling turista!
I thought it was going to be difficult, with us coming from Bulacan and then public commuting up to Tagaytay. Actually, it wasn’t. Add to that the fact that most people are just at home because of the upcoming Barangay Elections.
From Bulacan, we rode the FX (actually it’s a Revo) to MRT North EDSA station. We took the train and got off at the end of the line which is Taft station. At the foot of the stairs going down from the MRT platform, there’s a bus terminal. See? It’s easy, right? And what made things easier was that the bus stops right in front of the subdivision where the house where we’ll be staying is.
And another surprise for me: the bus fare going to Tagaytay from Pasay is only P73! Now why was that a surprise for me? Because the fare going to Bulacan from North EDSA MRT station is about P45 and that’s via the NLEX. Comparing the distance and time traveled, I thought the bus fare to Tagaytay would have been more than P100. And so it’s good news, right? Also the bus wasn’t the rickety type you see along EDSA. It was comfortable with good airconditioning and TV and the seats are CLEAN (no crawling creepy cockroaches!). My only regret at that time was that I forgot to bring my earphones. The movie didn’t play until we were more than halfway through our trip and the driver was playing oldies tunes.

Marc Nelson and Rovilson Fernandez on TAR Asia 2
“No Amazing Race show can be without its hunk factor and that is where Marc and Rovilson from the Philippines come in. This is one team with the two flamboyant individuals, who dish out a mixture of comedy and ego with a ton of sass. Both TV hosts by day, Rovilson also works as a magazine editor while Marc is a model, whose face, and rather well toned body, has graced the cover of many magazines.”
This is the introductory statement on Marc’s and Rovilson’s profile on The Amazing Race Asia 2 website, save for the flamboyance. And we here at BAMR definitely agree that this team is indeed the hunk factor in this race. We’re hoping though that this second season of Asia’s franchise of The Amazing Race (which we are a big fan of) will not disappoint us like they did with their first season. The first season just sucked.
Erap Pardon Hangover
I’ve pretty much expressed my opinion on the granting of executive clemency in Estrada pardon to set precedent for Arroyo, gathered the opinion and analysis from my favorite blogs to examine its implications in Do not expect too much of the end of the (Arroyo) regime, and reposted some fitting jokes in Post-Edsa 2 (and post pardon) Erap jokes.
But I still can’t get over the whole issue. So here are two more pieces on the pardon of the disgraced former President, now “plain citizen,” Joseph Estrada.
Hair-Raising: A Halloween Special
Because it is Halloween and dear Lifecruiser is doing this train of scary stories in which I am jumping in for the thrilling ride. I have tons of frightening stories and experiences in my pocket to keep you guys wet on your panties! I think I got this sixth sense because ever since I was young, I always have these spooky experiences that I cannot explain quite clearly. Here is one of them:
I was 10 years old and living in my grandma’s home that time. It is kindof a huge house with 7 bedrooms in total. Anyway enough about the specifics and let’s go forward to the main story here. (Pictures are taken by my mobile phone so sorry if the quality is not that good.)
Tech News: Atma Xplorer
I woke up yesterday and My site was at PR3 o.O and I thought Google gave everyone a rank drop.
Mulitple Logins for Yahoo Messenger
One of the major limitations I’ve found with Yahoo Messenger and Windows Live Messenger is that they allow just single logins. While this provides a bit of security, there are times when you need to login more than one account.Read the rest of this entry »
Everything you need to play Crysis (not Farcry 2)
If you’re still living under a digital rock and haven’t seen what’s hot in the gaming world, Crysis is an upcoming science fiction First Person Shooter, that is being developed by Crytek. The story is as follows:
Set in 2019, Crysis’ plot follows Jake Dunn, a United States Delta Force operative, whose codename is “Nomad”. As Crysis begins, an American team of archaeologists is taken captive by the North Korean Army, just as they were making an important discovery in the South China Sea. The United States responds by deploying a team of Delta Force operatives, supported by the USS Ashcroft. Jake Dunn, one of the Delta Force operatives sent by the American government, takes part in the fighting between the United States, and the then superpower North Korea. Soon, though, it becomes apparent that the presumed asteroid on the island is actually an alien vessel.
Oh No, Not the Cemetery Again!
Now, I am dragged to visit graves. We have to commute from our house here in the northern part of the metro, all the way to the south. I get to spend the whole day listening to mindless chatter (but mostly spacing out), being in a huge crowd (which I hate), and being forced to go to gross comfort rooms with almost non-existent water supply (I’m looking at you, Manila Memorial).
All those crap just to see a rectangular piece of soil.
Pinilakang Tabing – Another Fearless Attempt on Filmmaking
I bruised my heel after this pictorial. Now, I’m walking like a prick for a month already.
It’s a big dilemma in our part when we are tasked to make a film in school, knowing that us Journalism majors are not provided with enough facilities and equipment to utilize in the field of moviemaking. Talk about journ majors producing a feature film instead of a docu or news vids
The first time we did a short flick was two years ago, when our annoying Intro to Film instructor ordered all second year Journ studes (that’s 25 of us) to compete with the junior Journ studes in a Film fest. For our instructor’s convenience, she assigned her Film Criticism class to, well, criticize our works, do the verdict, and declare the winner, which obviously was not anyone in the fest for the record while our instructor got home with our money supposedly for the fest proper. (Our plans of getting a refund didn’t even start).
Our first film, Istiryotayp, was all about the, as the name implies, stereotypical struggles of a Romeo and Juliet based couple. You know, langit siya lupa ako conflict. And because of our director’s insistence, a ‘brokeback’ couple was added to give the movie a little bit of, as the title implies, stereotypical third party twist (the struggling homosexual third party becomes blander and blander nowadays). I portrayed as the stereotypical father who owns everything but loved by none, and then handled everything on the post-production. At that time we were so lucky to have an uber wealthy classmate who, not only that he has a son the same age as ours to mingle with, but allowed us to use his very stylish house that was used in “Maging Sino Ka Man” series. It was so damn beautiful, we nearly had our clothes packed up for the mass migration. Too bad, they’re selling the house for P17M in order to build a bigger, more stylish crib in Amadeo, Cavite.
