Starbucks Coffee on Me

I ran a Treat or Trick contest last month, two bloggers now have their own domains! It has been such a success that I would want to treat you all for coffee @ Starbucks but my budget is quite limited so I will have to do another contest ) .

It’s Thanksgiving day soon and I have alot to be thankful for. I thank YOU for reading this post. The prize is $25 worth of Starbucks coffee or if you prefer cash, you can have it. Payperpost has been good to me that I can sponsor this contest. see my blog for details

Let Marianette be the last child to take her own life because of poverty

Kids, at least biologically, have been programmed by nature to personify quiet resiliency and a great sense of healing. Be it from a fracture of the forearm or evacuating from their homes due to armed conflict, given the proper support and nurturing, their bodies, minds, and spirits will recover and eventually flourish despite the adverse events.

That is why my heart is broken into a million tiny pieces when I heard over the radio that a 12-year old girl took her own because she has apparently lost all hope of escaping from her poverty-stricken life.

I can’t begin to imagine the depth of the despair she was swimming in. Flailing in. Sinking in.

Child-friendly governments

There are numerous laws and programs that promote the welfare of children. But children remain the most vulnerable sector in Philippine society. They are the most affected during natural and man-made calamities.

Gay Events Philippines

You’re happy and gay and you know it.  But how do you make yourself even happier? Oh, there are lots of things you can do to find that inner peace and happiness.

For those who want instant happiness and fun or those who want to meet other gay men (and possibly, Mr. Right or Mr. Right Now),  there’s the clubbing and partying scenes at the Metro’s hottest bars and clubs.  For those who want happiness of the soul and enrichment of one’s mind, there is theater.  For those who want to just sit back and relax, there are movies. For those who, uhm, want instant gratification, there are uhm…. bath houses.

These are just a few of the different events that may provide happiness – instant and short-lived or otherwise.  But how does one know where to go and what events are on at the moment or the weekend after payday?  With so many events and so many activities catering to gay men and events that interest gay and straight folk alike, it’s just quite difficult to keep track.

That’s why we are launching a new blog: Gay Events Philippines!

This blog gives you a roundup of all gay-oriented and gay-related events here in the Philippines. This is your guide to Theater screenings, Clubbing, Parties, Social Outreach Programs, Eyeballs, Pride Marches, Spas and Bath Houses, Food, Bazaars, Seminars, Music and Album Launches, Concerts and so much more!

So what are you waiting for? Get yourself updated with “current” events and head on the Gay Events Philippines!

Getting My Groove Back!

I really hate this since the day that I arrived back in the Philippines I somewhat lost the inspiration to cook. Doing the groceries from time to time doesn’t help either. Sometimes I just stand in the supermarket somewhat clueless so I usually have my cousins with me to check what to buy. Everything is kindof new to me that my brain cells can’t even decipher which ingredients to buy and to cook. *sigh* I just only wished that I get my groove back just like Stella (from the movie How Stella Got Her Groove Back). Probably it will return once dear Odd is here or I am back home in Norway. But still any suggestions on how to get my groove back?

Anyway, here is a list of things that I did during the past few days:

a. The Philippines doesn’t really have Halloween until lately instead Filipinos celebrate All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day during Nov. 1 and 2. People from all walks of life flock towards the cemetery to visit their dead family members or loved ones. I was with my family during that time visiting my grandfather’s grave. It was fun to experience old traditions again!

Creating a continue reading link

Brevity was never my talent. Even if I was writing about a very simple topic, I always ended with a writeup longer than expected. This creates a problem for me in blogging. Long posts have a way of muddling up the layout of the homepage of your blog. The solution of course is to post only a few paragraphs on your homepage with a “continue reading” or “read more” link pointing to the url of your full post. Sounds simple, but as I later found out, not so easy to do particularly with the Blogger. Read more at Pinoy Seminars.

From Call Center Agent to Manager in 2 Years

Anatomy of a Call Center AgentMy very first job was for a then popular pager company. I don’t know if they’re still a company or still alive but several years ago, when the cellular phone age in the Philippines was about to take off, I was hired by them for an Outbound Telemarketing job. Of course back in the day, the call centers weren’t known as call centers yet. They were just jobs. And so I started to work there. There were no contracts, no tax deductions, no health benefits. Just report for work, make your sales, then at the end of the day, pack up and go home. Calls were only for about 5 hours, excluding lunch breaks and short breaks. You either had sales or not. If you didn’t have sales, the managers would threaten to fire you the next day if you didn’t improve. At the end of the day, all the employees would meet, and the Ex-Pats would handout several thousand to the day’s top players. Tax Free. That’s about 6,000 pesos per night if you were the top player. Oh by the way, kiddies…

I’ve jumped the bandwagon. I signed up for SponsoredReviews a few days ago. It seems that every local blogger is using PayPerPost, so I chose SponsoredReviews just to be different. :)

I heard that some local bloggers waited a month or two to get PayPerPost’s approval so I was expecting to wait a long time too, but I got approved after two days. I guess the approval time varies, since a blog post I was reading a few minutes ago said that being approved by SponsoredReviews was harder and took a longer time than being approved by PPP.
