2010 spirit is in the air (updated)

The Christmas spirit is barely felt these days.

Shackled by financial hardships in spite of the country’s “strong” economic performance, the country’s destitute majority has become caught up in so many other things aside from the holiday season.

And whatever holiday feeling left is fast being blown away by the powerful winds of the arriving typhoon Mina. Instead, a different hymn has taken over. Could it be that the 2010 spirit is in the air?

Some presidential wannabes seems to think so.

SEEEEE YOU ALL!!!

St. Francis Square is Full of Win Too!

Short-short!If fastfood joints and shopping malls are full of win, tiangge’s are too. All you have to do is open your eyes to the fun and exciting world of LOLness.

A few days ago, my wife and I went to St. Francis   Square in Ortigas in search for bargain clothing. Yeah, we’re cheap like that. While she tried a few pieces of clothing, I went around in search for some ass cheap, cool looking shirts. I managed to find a great one – black, with the words, “You can take away everything from me, but you can’t stop me from being EMO,” printed on the front. Cool eh? Anyway, more awesome than the shirt were the signs in the tiangge.

For those who’re living under boulders of dung, St.   Francis Square is located at the back of the SM MegaMall in Ortigas. It’s right along Doña Julia Vargas St. If you’re claustrophobic, don’t even think about shopping there. It’s like a miniaturized version of the GreenHills Shopping Mall minus the annoying dibidi guys.

RTW is cheap.

Right. So the second floor isn’t much, but there were more stores at the far end of the floor. There’s 2A, and as the sign says, we should be going there for more RTW. I took the liberty of capturing the first idiotic sign that I saw with my high-tech-outdated-pseudo-CSI-esque cellphone. Click to read more of this compelling tale!

Supertyphoon Mina And Us Saying “We’re Ready For Battle”

Riding in a jeepney on the way to the office a couple of days ago, I was absolutely hating the fact that I had to work drenched. Again. See, typhoon Lando had just stopped by and decided to give us more than our usual bit of rain. Now while on the jeepney, I learnt that another typhoon was making its way to our province. And so I was thinking, “Gotta have more pants ready or I might be running out of dry ones to wear with the storms coming to visit us this quick.” Little did I know that Mina was going to be something more than just rain.

Why We Should Support CyberEd

There is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come.

Yesterday, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet and speak with Education Secretary Jesli A. Lapus. Gigi and Pam of the Philippine Embassy in Vietnam invited me and Michelle to the despedida party of Consul-Gen Baisa and Ms Bel. Sec Lapus was the guest of honor and luckily, Ambassador del Rosario asked me to join them at their table.

We talked about life, family, careers, and of course, CyberEducation! Here are some of the insights I gained from Sec Lapus and from my own research about CyberEd:

What is Cyber Education?
I’m sure you’ve heard of Open and Distance Education (aka Distance Learning). This is a hot topic in our generation because of the availability of fast-paced Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), which includes e-mail, the Internet, multimedia resources, etc.

Distance Learning (DL) is not new.[1] It was invented in 1840 by the Englishman Sir Isaac Pitman when he started giving lessons to his students by mail. What a revolutionary idea!  Click here and continue reading…
