Think Before You Sign

I found a blank signature sheet on my desk yesterday. It was from a student organization that asked the faculty for help in their signature campaign. I thought it would be a good idea if I’d be the first to sign. But I didn’t, and it’s not because of apathy. The petition was for (1) an increase in the budget and (2) genuine educational reform through legislation. Sounds nice, eh?
Yes, but good will isn’t enough.

Frankly, I found the petition vague. It’s basically blank. No further explanation included except the short description that stated the two points mentioned above and the info that our signatures will be presented to Congress. What assumptions did the form have on its potential signatories? It’s either we’re psychic (we know the concrete action they want to take) or we’re stupid (we just sign without reason).
