Beyond Blood, Sweat, Fears — and yes, Sex

Do watch Death of Memory, which is being staged by Tanghalang Ateneo at the Rizal Mini Theatre in the Ateneo de Manila University. It will be worth your investment of time (approximately 2 hours) and money (200 pesos).

Glen Mas’ award-winning play gives a refreshingly modern rendition of purgation. A newcomer, Juan, finds himself in a nowhere land where “it is always three o’clock.” Nothing is peculiar about the place except the white space and the street sign that reads misericordia. No one else is there except Vesper, Itch, and Termino. No other memory is in their minds except for those tortuous moments that define them as victims: shame, abuse, and abandonment. No question nor act of defiance against the Keeper, who holds their memories, has ever been raised until Juan arrives. He poses the challenge of setting themselves free.
