ABS-CBN Sports Joins the 2008 Clark Freeport International Marathon

All is set and ready for the first major sporting event of 2008. The first Clark Freeport International Marathon to be held on January 13, 2008 is expected to draw in participants and spectators from all over the country and around Asia.
To ensure full and quality coverage of this grand event, Clark Development Corporation (CDC) and ActivAsia, Inc. are partnering with ABS-CBN Sports. “ABS-CBN Sports’ commitment to sports and adherence to the highest standards of broadcasting are compatible with the marathon’s thrusts and objectives,†Noemi Garcia of CDC says. “We envision the marathon to be a yearly event, and for this purpose, we find ABS-CBN as a veritable ally.â€
The production crew of ABS-CBN acknowledges the special requirements of covering a marathon, highlighting the sheer breath and expanse of the venue, but they are more than up to the task. Moreover, their global reach adds a truly international dimension to the event. “We are airing the marathon in The Filipino Channel (TFC) on cable world-wide,†Ms. Garcia says. “This will give a chance for every Filipino in every corner of the globe to witness this grand and awesome event.â€
Sanctioned officially by the Philippines Amateur Track and Field Association and endorsed by the Philippine Sports Commission, this race, aptly referred to as the “Race to the Futureâ€, offers the biggest cash prizes the country has ever seen for a marathon, offering a total cash prize of 1.8 million pesos.
Aside from the 42-K run, there are also 10-K and 5-K runs. The marathon is open to the public.
