First big battle of the 2010 elections

The novelty of the New Year has faded. The first month of 2008 has paved the way for the second. And the wistful state associated with the holidays has now been replaced with frenzied political bickering. This can only grow more turbulent from month to month until 2010.

The plot to oust Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. is only the first of many more intra-elite squabbles leading up to the 2010 presidential elections. A political analyst interviewed in ANC remarked “In many ways this is the first big battle of the 2010 presidential elections.”

…the fight for House leadership is connected to the scrapped $329 million broadband deal between the Philippine government and China’s ZTE Corp. It was De Venecia’s son, businessman Jose de Venecia III, who blew the whistle on the deal, saying that it was overpriced to accommodate million-dollar bribes to government officials.

A World Without Books?

A world without books is a world I just can’t live in. Hence, the discussion in the blog Torned and Frayed in Manila about the “Twilight of Books” makes me sad. It is in this context that the following must-see YouTube videos from The Penguin blog try to answer the questions, is there a better future for books or are we heading for a world without books.

“Love is like a rosary that’s full of mysteries.”

That is how a 13-year-old highschool girl defines the word LOVE, without any prior knowledge, experience or basis strong enough to back up those words. But little did she know that she would soon understand the whole truth behind that definition — in a bittersweet way.

That’s basically the plot of last Friday’s Maalaala Mo Kaya episode, “Popcorn.” I assumed from the trailer that this would be one cute, fluffy, and overwhelmingly sweet episode that every hopeless romantic cannot afford to miss. I should know; I wanted to go home to Cavite ASAP so I could watch the entire thing in the comfort of my own room — which I did not get to do because of the damned headache that made me sleep earlier than I wanted.

But thanks to good ‘ol YouTube, I still managed to catch the MMK episode no sweat!

I guess the fact that two very young children are the protagonists of this story makes everything all the more charming and interesting. Wouldn’t you raise eyebrows upon seeing two kids at the verge of adolescence doing BF-GF stuff like holding hands, exchanging rings, and texting lovey-dovey messages? I know I did, but all has been forgotten as I watched the story with a foolish grin on my face as well as occasional gushes and manifestations of kilig. In short, mukha akong tanga habang nanonood nito.

EntreCard Mania Is On! – Short on EC Credits?

I actually blog about how infectious Entrecard is to date and what could it bring to new and old blogs. In fact, I’ve shown some valuable tips to rely on if you’re new to Entrecard. Well, old EC users without a knowhow on how to maximize EC for your benefit can also rely on those simple yet sensible tips I’ve created.

A lot have been predicting what EC can be the next big thing in the near future. Some also mentioned that EC credits will be the next medium of exchange behind dollars. On the other hand, while others have attempted to sell EC’s, others were also selling ads in exchange for a couple or hundreds of EC credits. I won’t be surprised if these innovations would go beyond the idea of why EC was created before since having and working on EC credits is really cool.
