On De Venecia’s Ouster
As a veteran, ousted House Speaker Jose De Venecia shielded Arroyo in every crisis that hounded her administration. Alas, the erstwhile speaker should have known that his and the President’s was a doomed affair from the start. For as Conrado De Quiros writes, there is no honor among thieves.
I didn’t follow yesterday’s long affair, opting to read everything about it in today’s papers. So I breezed my way through half of Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment as JDV made an impassioned albeit hypocritical and belated speech against President Arroyo.
By the time 174 House members voted “yes†to declare the speakership vacant, I was already sound asleep. Only upon waking up did I learn of the change in leadership. De Venecia was ousted. Davao City Rep. Prospero Nograles is the new House Speaker.

“It’s God’s will. It’s probably my destiny.â€
It was just minutes after Davao City Rep. Prospero Nograles assumed the Speakership when I noticed he got his thank you speech all mixed up. He looked dignified, as all politicians are, calm and reserved. He was keeping his emotions in check, lest the public prey on them endlessly as we did on JDV’s excessive 59-minute rhetoric on the floor before nominating Nograles himself for the position.

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 goes Gold
After much speculations, rumors, hype and the likes, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 goes Gold. Today, Microsoft announced that Vista SP1 has RTM’ed (Released To Manufacturers) and will be made available to the public in mid-March. Unlike previous service packs from Microsoft, Vista SP1 is more on bug fixes and performance enhancement rather than a “feature added†release.
Service Pack 1 is a very important milestone because it addresses many of the key issues that our customers have identified with Windows Vista over the last year both, directly and through programs like the Customer Experience Improvement Program. With Service Pack 1, we have made great progress in performance, reliability and compatibility.
