Holy Weekend with the family
This year’s Holy Week is different for me. Instead of staying all week within the confines of the house, I was able to take a short trip to Pampanga with Warren for a series of mini-reunions.
HOLY THURSDAY
7:30PM
Warren and I took a cab for Quezon Avenue where we were meeting up with my big brother, Ahmad. I owe big bro a lunch/dinner date for his birthday last March 3 so I took this as an opportunity to pay him back on that. It was also my first time to check out his crib so I felt like a sniff dog while I was inside his room, I think I was able to turn everything upside down checking if he’s doing a-okay.
Anyway, we went to Napoli afterwards for a sumptuous dinner. My brother ordered seafood pesto while Warren and I had hungarian sausage spaghetti… Who said meat isn’t allowed on Holy Week?
Flagellants, faith, customs and traditions
Barrio Panipuan is about 30 minutes from our place in Balibago, Angeles City. We took the old MacArthur Hiway route, passing Telabastagan and stopping by a subdivision at the back of Paning’s to pick up my niece Asia and my sister Aissa. We took a left at Barrio Baliti and went straight ahead towards our point of destination. Just as we were taking a right to enter the village, we were slowed down by a melee of young men. One of them was holding a long rope which, to me, looked like a makeshift “latigo†or whip. He was bent over and talking to another man whose head was covered with a white makeshift turban, he had a crown of bougainvillea stalks, he had no shirt on – just denim pants, was barefooted and his back was soaked in blood. He was holding a cord with short sticks at the end. He whips the cord on his back to make the blood ooze, sometimes, the young man with a whip would take out a bottle of water from his pocket and pour a little on the sticks to make it look like there is just too much blood coming out of the man’s back. Where To Find Your Perfect Match
Compatibility is the most ideal thing in a relationship, this is because when couples aren’t compatible enough chaos is just around the corner. Sometimes patience and being understanding plays a heavy role, but in the long run the well runs dry. Whether you like it or not better look for a partner that plays your game.
A Pinoy Term for the Word ‘Blog’?

Tara na at mag-blag! Blog. This is just one of the many foreign words that have no direct translation in the Tagalog language.I’ve read an interesting article a month ago over at PauloMartinez.com that invites Pinoy Bloggers to go and look for a Pinoy term of the word “blogâ€. Weeks have passed and I went back to see if anyone had left any suggestions for the term, but unfortunately, there wasn’t any. I then wondered, “Why aren’t bloggers interested in looking for a Tagalog term for the word Blog?â€
It’s not easy to coin a term
I think that one of the reasons why bloggers are not even trying on looking for a tagalog term is because coining a term is not as easy as it sounds. Aside from the reason that it needs to sound good, there’s also the problem on whether the masses will pick the term up and use it.

Online Petition For Janina?
It seems like the controversial Binibining Pilipinas World 2008 Janina San Miguel will never hear the end of it. Janina Miller San Miguel, a broadcast communication student at the University of the East, has received countless criticisms because of her answer in the semi-finals interview portion (click here to read full transcript of Janina’s answer and here for the transcript of the answers of the other finalists). She has been called names and even branded as the next Melanie Marquez – the country’s reigning queen of malapropisms. And based on interviews with her after the pageant, it seems like she will not budge. Janina seems like a strong woman and she probably is hell-bent on proving her detractors wrong and prove to the world that she is tough. After all, she is one of the tough ten!
Many Filipinos from all over the world were dismayed with the decision and are blaming the judges and the Binibining Pilipinas Charities for allowing contestants with poor communication skills to enter the contest. Some also blame (though only partly) the country’s educational system for producing students that are very poor in English. Others argue that she is a Filipina and there’s nothing wrong with speaking English with incorrect grammar. Some also suggest that we send an interpreter with her to the Miss World competiton (after all, other countries send interpreters too!).Over at the Binibining Pilipinas official website, a Press Release >>> Continue Reading this entry >>>
