Pollution, not just bad, it’s a sin.

Are you polluting the environment, not helping the world in reducing the effects of climate change, and not an advocate of recycling? Well, now, you are considered a sinner. That is at least, according to the new list of Mortal Sins, according to Archbishop Gianfranco Girotti this month in Vatican.

Manipulate human genes? Cause social or economic injustice? All sins.

That could be the big announcement that Vatican is preparing for Pope Benedict’s US tour next month. Vatican pointed out that the ”violations of the basic rights of human nature” through genetic manipulation, the use of drugs that ‘‘weaken the mind and cloud intelligence” and the vast disparity between rich and poor, are social injustices and which is not the nature of God. The list of mortal sins is a good thing because it will raise awareness of topics not always thought of in a moral context. Therefore, considered as a sin.

Now, here is the new list of Mortal Sins:

Environmental pollution
Genetic manipulation
Accumulating excessive wealth
Inflicting poverty
Drug trafficking and consumption
Morally debatable experiments
Violation of fundamental rights of human nature

Well, everyone could do more of repentance even if the Holy Week had just passed. Now what would the House of Sin can say to that, even if he is dead?

Aside from the Seven Cardinal sins, the new list boast of social awareness. According to Archbishop Girotti, “If yesterday sin had a rather individualistic dimension, today it has a weight, a resonance, that’s especially social, rather than individual.”
