The Blog Rounds – At A Crossroads

Welcome to the Middle of Nowhere and the 3rd Edition of The Blog Rounds, a weekly blog carnival for Filipino medical bloggers. This week’s theme is “At a Crossroads,” featuring posts about the choices doctors and other health professionals make, and how their career influences them.
Before anything else, I’d like to thank all the medical bloggers who participated in this edition of The Blog Rounds for their enthusiastic response. Many new voices have been added this week – and I am hoping this won’t be the last time they will be joining our particular chorus! Given the very personal nature of the topic for the week, the honesty and candor of all the bloggers has made it a joy to read the stories they have chosen to share.
Now, I would like to help them share their stories with all of you.

Without further ado, I bring you TBR 3 – At a Crossroads.

Gabby Concepcion – The Comeback

Will Gabby Concepcion have the same appeal that he had way back the 90’s? We don’t know yet, but considering Gabby’s credible acting skills, the undead charisma that he has for the fans, and his commitment to the showbiz industry is surely a plus factor for a new start in his career. [Notable Posts #2] Pisay, Sex Ed., Po & Opo, Amerika, Top, Evil

You might want to read the following notable posts from notable blogs of notable pinoy bloggers… :)

Standards of Degrees & Diplomas Hit a Monumental Low: PISAY.

It certainly bugged me to hear, read actually, that there has been a minutely publicized case about a graduate of Pisay (FYI: that’s Philippine Science High School) who allegedly was allowed to graduate (i have a self editing comment here, I’d rather keep to myself!) and get his/her diploma/certificate even though he/she had flunked a Math subject.

Philippines Department of Education launches Sex Education in High School

It is my hope that this latest new isn’t a one step forward, two step backwards initiative by the government. What the DepEd should be wary of, is a repeat of what happened in 2006, wherein the Arroyo administration rolled back two decades of progress of our Philippines sex education program.

Ma’am and Pagsasabi ng Opo at Po

Saying “Po” and “Opo” is foreign to me. (In Filipino if some phrases or sentences ends in “po”, “opo”, “oho”, “ho” or has these words, it only means that you do have a high respect or you are very polite to the person your talking to.)

Buhay Amerika

Why Pinoy Top Blogs is not for Everybody

The structure of new design looks and feels web 2.0, but some would miss the customizable banner of the old. The old PTB has an instant recognizable logo, the new TBP is sorely lacking any. In the old PTB design, you can see Abe’s personality behind it, the new one looks generic and corporate. Best Designed it is not.

Getting One Way Links The Evil Way

Well, actually, this is not new. For example, Topblogs.com.ph requires you to put a code that gives them link love and link back to your site using redirects that do not pass Google juice (the /out folder is on the disallow section of their robots.txt). We give them data and sitewide links, and we got no link love in return?

Noted! ;)

Bayani Fernando City

It really disgusts me to see tarpaulin of Bayani Fernando for MMDA all over the city. It’s really disgusting! Every time I see it, it makes me think of how much all of these tarpaulin costs and who paid for it. With that, I can officially call Metro Manila as “Bayani Fernando City” now.

Ways To Maximize Your Adsense Earnings

Most webmasters know that Adsense generates a sizeable source of additional advertising income. That is why most of them use it to go after high paying keywords. They have with them the lists that tells what the keywords are and have already used various methods of identifying them. And yet, after putting up these supposed-to-be high paying keywords into their pages, the money they expected to come rolling in is not really coming in. What is it that they are doing wrong?  click here to continue

Rich young man

Yesterday, Warren and I were invited to have lunch with a former client from Houston, Texas. He is in the country for a three week vacation with his family and to do some business as well.

Tim and I go a long way back, back to late 2006 or early 2007, but back in the days we never discussed anything that is near religion. I have always assumed he is a Buddhist.

You see, this man is a Vietnamese, he was one of those boat people who paddled their way out of Vietnam in the 1980’s. He was eleven at that time. Staying six full months in a Vietnamese refugee camp in the Philippines (he could not exactly remember if it was in Batangas or Palawan), he was later boarded on a plane for the United States of America where he was eventually naturalized as a citizen.

Tim, indeed, is a very lucky man for having been given the opportunity to rebuild his life in the land of milk and honey. He got his education, became a software engineer, earned enough to start his own business, got laid off from work and finally had reason to become his own boss, and now, he is one of the young, successful and powerful (hey, you are powerful when you are rich, by human standards, isn’t it?) rich men in Texas. He is only thirty two years old and a father to two beautiful boys. Life is rosy and full of promises for him. Or is it?
