The great English poet and playwright William Shakespeare was born today 444 years ago. Yes, 444 years ago! Talk about living forever. To this day, children and adults…
April 23rd is World Book and Copyright Day, according to the United Nations. Let’s celebrate it by reading more books, especially local ones. We should also encourage more people to become writers. Here’s a little story about a writer who died and was given the option of going to heaven or hell…

Jean, my fellow wanderlust-wanna-be, and I first heard about Caramoan last August. Described in glowing terms as an “untouched paradise” by someone who had never seen it himself, the hype whetted our curiosity – and we’ve been planning to take a trip there ever since. After discovering beauty of Bicolandia during our weather-cursed trip last February, we’ve been even more eager to realize its promise.
With a resident’s schedule, easier said than done. (This is no longer really my problem, but with my travel buddies all tied to the hospital, I don’t have much of a choice.) But sure enough when there’s a will there’s a way, and last weekend we finally managed to get away.
The Caramoan Peninsula is found in the Bicol province of Camarines Sur. It is three and a half hours away from Naga City – itself already an eight to ten hour drive from Manila. Caramoan town proper is an hour and a half by land to Sabang Port then two hours by boat to Guijalo Port. That’s a total of twelve hours travel for people who can barely get a weekend away.

Another Filipino in the name of Madonna Decena is making a name abroad just like our Ramiele Malubay, Mariel Jacoda, Charice Pempengco, among others. In fact, her talent has been shown in different venues–from restaurants to stadiums, and now on the new season of TV show “Britain’s Got Talent”, the British counterpart of American Idol.

I was riding LRT and it was packed like sardines. Of course, no one could escape the contact of bodies, the scent of dried mouth and that of the body perfume (be it expensive or natural).
One of the men was leaning his back on the door of the driver’s area. The other guy was clinging to the door with his hand. Then after a few moments, the former guy spoke, “You are hitting my face.” in a tone that was audible to most. The other guys naturally responded with a higher tone. They exchanged words and I was scared that that voice fight would turn into a physical one. (I just wonder how could they do it in the crowd. I couldn’t even raise my arms.) It’s a good thing they stopped.
For those who are riding the LRT or MRT, please bear in mind that we are all in the same boat. We could not help ourselves being hit or sometimes “harassed” accidentally. This is better than being a victim of a pickpocket, right? If you are not comfortable in such a scenario, then get a cab! Or move sideways or move to another location to avoid being touched. Don’t raise your voice due to discomfort. And to those who are mobile addicts, please momentarily cut your conversation. Your voice is not as sweet as that of the finalists in American Idol!
Manners are really disappearing when the animal inside of men is unleashed.

We, bloggers just don’t live our lives. We live our lives with blogging in mind. All the time, we’re observing, looking for things to photograph for our blogs, thinking of things to write, imagining if our readers would want to read about what we are currently experiencing. Ever since I’ve started blogging, I notice that I am hardly ever in the photos anymore… it’s all photos that I intend to upload to my blog. And then, after we live our lives, we live it again by sharing it to our readers.
This is especially true when taking a vacation – which sometimes miffs me because it’s hard to relax thinking – “Oh look at that, I should have taken a picture of that” or “How am I going to write about this?” Or I’m lunching with Honey but I stop and say “That Tom Yung is to die for but it isn’t photogenic enough for my blog.” (Do you use photogenic for food?) But the truth is, there are no words to express and no photos to justify what I’m seeing or what I’m feeling during those moments.

Most of the time, we encounter managers, CEOs, even Presidents who do not know how to manage their people, resources, or their very own homes.
It’s a good thing I checked my email today, it offered a solution short and quick enough yet frankly “dropped” the idea right on my lap. The 3-MInute Management Course.
