Carly Smithson Surprisingly Was Voted Out

April 25, 2008

Carly Smithson and Randy JacksonI did not have the chance to watch the elimination night last night on American Idol but I was able to know the results before lunch yesterday. It was a surprise for me that Carly Smithson went home instead of poor performer Brooke White. Despite the praises from American Idol judges, her great performance of “Jesus Christ Superstar” wasn’t good enough for America.

Broadway Night For American Idol Top 6

April 25, 2008

When I saw on the website of American Idol that the top 6 finalists would do Andrew Lloyd Webber songs, I got excited since I love musical and Broadway. After the Mariah Carey week, this Broadway week definitely was alarming for the American Idol finalists. How would they be able to sing Broadway without sounding mediocre?

Syesha Mercado started the show with a powerful performance. It’s definitely her genre and it showed her different personality. She’s still not my bet. Not an American Idol material still. Other finalists that aced last night were David Archuleta, Carly Smithson and David Cook. I’m still not sure about David Cook but I will just rely on the judges’ opinion. I somewhat felt his performance was boring.

Love Song

April 25, 2008

By Nancy Jane (Nancy Jane)

This is my love song
And in case you forget that I cared,
You can listen to this,
Special, special love song,
Just to tell you that I love you,
I made it specially for you
(I made it specially for you)
(I made it specially for you)
This is my love song
And in case you forget that I cared,
You can listen to this,
Special, special love song,
Just to tell you that I love you,
I made it specially for you
(I made it specially for you)

The Singing Bee

April 25, 2008

The first episode of ABS-CBN’s The Singing Bee aired last night with Palos star Cesar Montano. The Singing Bee is a TV franchise of the US version of The Singing Bee from Gurin Company and Juma Entertainment, LLC. I just wonder why the sudden hop with a new company when ABS-CBN is known with its tie with Endemol. While I was watching the whole show, I thought it was an original concept from ABS-CBN. I just hope local channels will create their own concepts and will not rely on hit shows in the US.

Back to the show, the first set of contestants was Bayani Agbayani, Derik Ramsey, Jodi Sta. Maria, Keana Reeves, Heart Evangelista and Pooh. The first four contestants to sing the correct lyrics will move the next round where the final two contestants will battle on the final round. Actress Jodi Sta. Maria and comedian Pooh were the final two. Jodi Sta. Maria failed to sing the correct lyrics to Piolo Pascual’s Kailangan Kita while Pooh perfected Pilita Corales’ song. It was just sad that Pooh did not win the 1 Million.

A True Mean Girl Story

April 25, 2008

mean girls week

To end Mean Girls Week, I think it’s appropriate if I share a mean girl story. A story plucked from my own retarded high school past. It’s not a story about skanky bitches calling everybody “sluts” and “whores”. It’s about high school drama, angst, and awkward silences. It’s about me being in jail with a girl named Vanessa.

I went to a Catholic school in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. Canossa School to be exact. A place were dreams are born and hearts are broken. A breeding ground for leaders, jocks, losers, artists, mean girls, and background dancers for noontime TV shows.

Assortment (of so unrelated topics that found thier way and related to each other)

April 25, 2008

VOX POPULI SUCKSCarly Smithson is out?! I really loved her thing with the Jesus Christ Superstar. Who could’ve known that Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote that.

Anywhoo, I could never believed that Jason and Brooke was on the safe spot because everyone knows that they made super-obvious blunders. But then again, Simon made a good point: Fanbases, Charm, and “Being-Human” thing really pays off.

Dammit. Why does talent have to be the last thing?!

April 24, 2008

The debate on the generic only provision finally straighten out after the members of the congress who authored the House Resolution no. 2844 or Cheaper Medicine Bill submit on the request of the Senate and the Philippine Medical Association. The Generic Only provision became the source of the debate on the bi-cameral session and even the disapproval of the Philippine Medical Association. Was Shakespeare two different poets?

April 24, 2008

by Alvin d. C. Lopez
The Pelican Spectator

It is my interest for poetry which renders yesterday, April 23rd, a special day but a degree lower than my fiancée and I’s anniversary. April 23rd is both the traditional birthday and the death anniversary of the most posthumously controversial poet who ever lived, the “Great Bard” of the universe William Shaksper. Yes, the man Shaksper who supposedly wrote the most beloved plays Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Macbeth, Othello etc., is the authorship rival of another contemporary poet mistakenly celebrated in his day as the same man. And his name was Shake-Speare.

I am not the only fool who doubts whether the bard we know today as William Shakespeare wrote the entire magna opera ascribed to the name “Shakespeare”. There is a long list of men who had expressed their disbelief that the peasant from Stratford-upon-Avon who went not farther than London could write about Venice, Denmark, and France and much of Europe. Among them are Walt Witman, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Mark Twain, Orson Welles, Henry James, Sigmund Freud and Tyrone Guthrie (Shakespeare Authorship Coalition).

Earth Day Overload

April 24, 2008

EarthYesterday was Earth Day. In celebration of Earth Day, I created an article about synthetic trees in which it can help in diminishing global warming. I hope science can take its course in helping Mother Earth. Anyway, right after I watched the evening news in CNN, I tuned in to the National Geographic channel while I was ironing a huge pile of clothes.

The National Geographic channel all day aired shows about Mother Earth. My Earth Day marathon started with bees. I just can’t remember the program title but it showed that bees are vanishing rapidly and if the decrease continues, by 2035 bees will be extinct.

CNN Reporter Richard Quest Busted With Drugs

April 24, 2008

Richard QuestIf you are familiar with CNN, the name Richard Quest might give you a ring. CNN International reporter and hosts of “Business Traveller” and “Quest”, Richard Quest, 46, was arrested around 3:40 A.M. last Friday on Central Park. According to the police he was in possession of a controlled substance, Methamphetamine that was on his pocket. What’s so interesting in this arrest was he was in possession of a sex toy hidden in his boots and a rope was tied around his neck that was tied to his genitals. Isn’t that bizarre? I never thought a CNN personality would even act like that.

Mary

April 24, 2008

Pure as white, soft as cotton
A light of pathway wherein there is safety.
A woman who will guide you,
Love you and show you what life is,
A woman called Mary.

My Mary was dull, fragile and castled.
The Mary that didn’t show her love,
nor her care for me.
