You’ll Never Ask Why
You’ll Never Ask Why
“Ma…Where is Papa? Isn’t he home yet?” a tender sob from an innocent child deafened the mother’s heart.
“He’ll be home soon. You’re Papa loves you.”
You’ll never know what a person’s mind thinks not until he speaks out. You’ll never know what a person’s heart needs not until you feel it. You’ll never know why but you’ll feel the reason, hearts just know.
Almost 20,000 Filipinos weekly go abroad to find their fortune. It is never a question why but already an answer to economical crisis that you couldn’t really deny. Juan dela Cruz shall never loose hope in providing a good living for his family that even overseas work automatically switches his patriotism. Think about the four out of ten Filipinos who are drowned in poverty and you’ll realize that in any moment your family might be one of those too and that you must sacrifice and go abroad.
Reports of various overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who get raped, harassed, maltreated, and even killed had become a threat to those who want to go abroad. But despite the pain that our OFWs feel, they would still go back to where they can earn more money not to mention the pain he might be having emotionally and physically. It has become a threat, yes. But still millions of Filipino graduates aspire to go abroad because it is a fortune we seek and that no Filipino wants to be left behind. Juan is a man of sacrifice and he will always be for his family.
Among the two out of five OFWs only hide the tear of great maltreating for the sake of his family who’s hungry for dollar, hungry for peso in order to survive. It is for the fact that they do believe that they would not find the fortune or greater job opportunities here in Philippines. You’ll never ask why they suffer still and not live their life back to where they really belong. You’ll never question their dignity for they did it for the love of family. One lives like a wheel. You go abroad today and later get maltreated, go home and soon find yourself going to the same employer again. It is a sacrifice.
Flesh of our flesh. Blood of our blood. Juan flies with dignity over risk but beats his heart for his family’s sake. It is never a question of why. For then, by now, you’ll understand the reason behind. Hearts just know.
“…Papa’s home!”
