is it possible for anyone to resist this funny face? (our family pug, Sage)
A person can fall under any of the following categories: dog people, cat people, other-kind-of-pets people, and get-those-animals-away-from-me people. I make no secret of the fact that I am and will always be a dog person.
Dogs are funny, amusing, and great companions. But it’s their uncomplicated love and adoration of their “pack” that is a definite draw for true blue doggy lovers – and something that cat-people hold against them.

The US presidential election due this year November 4 2008 let us look at the American electoral system. A quite number of us Filipinos or the Americans themselves do not know how the system works.
Basically, the system is not that complicated. In the simplest terms, the members of the College of Electors from 50 states and the District of Columbia get together and cast their votes for the President and Vice president of the United States. The candidates who get the highest votes win.
The electors represent the numbers of senators and congressman in each state and are selected by the individual states through processes determined by each state.
The way the electors vote us determined by the constituents. There are states where the electors are bound by their constituencies before they leave for Washington to cast their votes. There are states whose electors are not bound that way. They may change their minds.
The political parties Republicans and Democrats contend for the electoral votes in each state, it is a winner takes all situations. The winner carries all the electoral votes of the state.

I had only recently found out that in the 1980s, the Thailand government purportedly sent a few of their agricultural people to the Philippines to leverage on our advancement in rice production. The Thais then studied under the able tutelage of the International Rice Research Institute based in the country. Decades later, the “teacher” who in the past boasted of being a predominantly agricultural nation had lost its mojo in this very aspect while the “students” had taken what science they learned to advanced heights. To reinforce our country’s plummet to rice-farming Loserville, the Philippines is now one of the world’s top importer of rice. What happened to us and our rice themed glory days?
