Reflections and Musings #1
May 29, 2008
I had an entry lined up to address Bishop Tobias’ letter to the IC, but I think I’ll just maybe share my thoughts with you all tonight.
There’s a short back story to this so bear with me please. I had been working on a “gift” that I’ve been meaning to give the CFC Home Office/Center for quite sometime now, but it was only recently that I figured out how to put it together properly and cohesively. If you read the response by the MMC in this entry, you’ll see that the home office has had some issues in communicating with its database of leaders and members because the person in charge joined the FFL. I encountered this verse during my search for a solution for that:
He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. - Isaiah 2:4
Obviously, you can all read into this however you want, but it particularly struck me in how it relates to what we are doing now - and by we, I mean us the IDOTRCFC bloggers, and the Easter Group. It made me think about the over all effect (global effect, if you may) caused by the CFC split and the subsequent, very public, tit-for-tat exchange it has generated.
Teenage Love Affair Music Video
May 29, 2008
This is my current favorite song “Teenage Love Affair” from Alicia Keys. I just can’t get enough of this song. Alicia Keys is flaming hot in this music video. She’s getting prettier in her music videos. Too bad, I can’t watch her concert here in the Philippines this year.

Boracay Tan No More
May 29, 2008
After our short visit to “Munting Talon”, we went back to our cottage then cooked “sinigang na bangus.” We even dipped on the beach when we arrived. That caused my Borcay tan into a not so good tan. Anyway, while we were cooking “sinigang na bangus”, our other colleague was assigned in grilling the stuffed bangus. Just in time for lunch, we were able to feast on our own cooked meal. We even ate on banana leaves which made the experience more fun. Sadly, we weren’t able to take pictures of our first lunch in Quezon.
After lunch and our short rest, we went to our next destination “Balagbag Falls.” We took a tricyle on our way to the falls. On some parts of our ride, we were required to walk since the tricycle was having problems in carrying us all. Would you believe that we were all eight passengers in the tricycle? Two on the drivers back, five people on the inside and one on top of the tricycle. Isn’t that fun?

How to Manage Your Google AdWords Campaign
May 29, 2008
One of the first things you can do in your Google AdWords campaign is to make use of keyword optimization. You can start this process by doing your homework and limiting your keywords. Then, filter out searches that you know have a very poor conversion rate by instituting negative keywords into your keyword selections. READ MORE HERE
AA Reports Money Misery For Mobile Phone Using Motorists
May 29, 2008
While those illegally using a mobile phone while driving on the road will face being fined, such an offence may only be the beginning of their finance-related motoring pressures.
This is claimed by AA Insurance, when it indicated that consumers who choose flouting the law by talking on a mobile phone while at the wheel will be stung with a fixed-penalty notice of 60 pounds. Click here to continue
Giving Back through Corporate Social Responsibility
May 29, 2008
For two years and running in the company I currently work for, we are required to allot four hours of company time (half of a workday) and four hours of our personal time (either we sacrifice part of a weekend or file a half-day vacation leave during a workweek) to extend help to the underprivileged. Last year, 99% of our total company headcount (of about 800) went in groups to various Gawad Kalinga communities around the country to teach children in their makeshift schools. This year, for want to explore other areas where our help may be equally needed, it’s going to be either CRIBS Philippines or Kythe Foundation.
It is one thing to be willing to help and another to have the heart to want to deliver the “service” well. I have long realized that I’m not cut as a teacher because I have very little patience around kids in that I easily get annoyed when they randomly move about, cry for no apparent reason, and, most especially, they take on a particular smell after being active all day. And they can’t talk LOLCAT. And they’re needy, clingy, and immature (hmmm, this sounds soooo familiar. TOO familiar. *strokes Photoshoped beard on avatar. OH! I was describing an adult, sry.). In a nutshell, if you know you’re not cut for teaching, do other things to make yourself more useful like contribute food, prepare the snack area, coordinate with the agencies, clean the site’s perimeter, or re-paint the school’s existing mural (only when they ask you to). Doing so will do the kids a big favor.

Baby Names My Future Wife Will Probably Hate
May 29, 2008
Notice I used “probably” in the title instead of “surely”? Well that’s because there’s a slight chance that I’ll marry someone who will totally be OK with my brilliant ideas like pizza for breakfast everyday. Lots of crazy chicks running around these days.
A few days ago, a discussion was started on Twitter about baby names. I’d like to link to the relevant tweets, but I’m lazy. Yay me! Besides, you’d be lucky to read those tweets because Twitter’s being a douche these days. Anyway, that discussion reminded me of one baby name that I really loved ever since high school. “Scarlett”. I don’t know, there’s something about that name that evokes strength and femininity. But I stopped loving it when Scarlett Johansson became a prominent fixture in Hollywood. Just think about it. If I name my future daughter “Scarlett”, the first thing that will come to mind whenever I say her name is this:

That would be totally weird. So I’m thinking maybe it’s time I think of new baby names that I’ll try to give my future kids and will probably be rejected by my future wife who will totally be a pain in my future ass. Here’s what I came up with:

Free Text?
May 29, 2008
A couple of days ago, there’s this brewing idea of making text messaging services in the Philippines free of charge. If that proposal gets granted, imagine this nation truly living up to its prestige(?) as a texting capital. But there are IFs and BUTs there. Come to think of it, nothing really is free these days. You have to ‘pay’ for it one way or another. As for free text messaging? There’s a method in the madness and madness in the method, as De Quiros puts it.

a story of birds and cats
May 29, 2008
I woke early in the morning, and I was disturbed by the noise of a group of frogs nearby, it was raining hard last night and it seems that the vacant lot are now being the breeding ground for bull frogs, then when I was about to eat my breakfast, I saw my pet cats sleeping and crouching outside, then my pet cat Puteh, suddenly grabbed a stray bird nearby and she run through the grassy lot of

Wanted: Perfect Bridegroom!!!
May 28, 2008
Wanna come to my wedding party? Of course, everyone is invited to come! But first of all, I guess I have to find a groom.. Yah, that is right, folks. A groom! I am laughing at myself now for feeling a bit desperate about having the man of my own and someone I can be with for the rest of my life, not necessarily to get married though.
I am a 30 year old lady who together with my also 30-something year old cousin, wondering and waiting for the day for that special someone to come and sweep me off my feet and make me fall so madly in-love with him. Why is it that nowadays it is so hard to find a nice guy? It’s either they are already taken or they are gays! Girls, girls, girls, don’t you get a bit desperate sometimes about this phenomenon? There is not just enough nice men for everyone.
I’ve had many relationships in the past, all of them made me feel happy for a certain period of time but I ended up crying. I think that is an inevitable circumstance that anyone should face and learn to accept. I am not really asking for heavens and earth, you know… All I just want is for me to be happy… who would not want to be loved and be happy anyway? It sounds so easy but honestly, this is one thing that’s been escaping from my grasp. No matter what I do, it just wont let me have it. What the hell is wrong with me? ( ooopppsss…. I am saying this half-jokingly!)
Shanghai Bistro
May 28, 2008
Truthfully, I am not an avid fan of Chinese cuisine. I cannot say it enough that my taste buds are tired of sesame oil, oyster sauce and soy sauce. But I live in a country where Chinese food is as staple as rice. But once in a while I chance upon a place that serves great tasting Chinese dishes. And I am a hypocrite if I do not admit that of all Chinese edible creations, dimsum is the best. It is also the easiest to imitate. Imagine all the stalls that sell siopao, siomai, sharks fin in all shapes and sizes.
Writing gigs for Budding Writers
May 28, 2008
I have been out of job for months and within those money drained months I have been sending my resume’ and attending series of interviews to different call center companies that I know of but unfortunately my search for that elusive dream job have not yet landed on my hand. Sometimes it can be really draining and devastating to know you failed the interview (again!) and at times I felt like the world was conspiring against me. Well, not all of the companies I applied for dumped my resume in the trash can.
There is this one company which told me that I will be called back for the near-hire training. It is a training for those whose call center skills are marginal and needs more honing, it will take 2 weeks for us to finish the entire curriculum and the good thing about this is that it is a paid training. But good heavens, it’s almost 2 months since that interview and still they haven’t called me back and I am getting a bit impatient already. As much as I want to lose my hope, I can’t do that because hope is the only wisdom that is left in me at this time of my life.

Love is a big word
May 28, 2008
This morning, my daily devotional prompted me to read Romans 12:9-21 for further studies. I turned my bible to the appointed section and it read:
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
