TV Advertisements of Senators
May 26, 2008
Senate President Manny Villar’s TV commercial about his helping to OFW was circulating during primetime TV. If Bayani Fernando was known for his early campaigning with his huge billboards, Senate President Manny Villar is known for his TV commercials. The richest Philippine Senator I suppose funded for this TV commercial just to let the public known his presence. As if the public aren’t aware that he is already campaigning.

The Revelation of Eve’s Heart
May 25, 2008
“The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ” Genesis 3:2-3
the woman’s logic was aroused
its her chance to prove to Satan and to herself that she knows more than she thinks
Satan began with a false question arousing Eve’s logic (Genesis 3:1)
challenging her wits
tempting her to prove her worth to the world
but Eve responded wrongly (Continue Reading Here…)
“God Is Love”
May 25, 2008
God is Love.
Sadly, this, too, is an overused and often misused phrase. A believer surely understands what I am saying here, but for the benefit of those swift to conclude such, I would like to explain the misconception behind the famous phrase and Bible verse by taking you along with me in my reading of Dr. John MacArthur’s book entitled “The Love of God”.

Comic creators and Meeting the people of Kolektib Intelidyens @ Cubao Expo
May 25, 2008
This is the final event I attended last Saturday, and lucky me to have a meet up with comic artist Ryan Orosco before going to Cubao Expo. I arrived too early for the event, and it was hot in the street of Cubao and I crawled down via taxi from my visit in Fullybooked Free comic book day.
Bounter Hunter and Free comics at Fullybooked Free Comic Book Day
May 25, 2008
Fullybooked celebrated the Free Comic Book Day, and this is the 2nd biggest free comics celebration in a store. And my guess is right many people lined up before 10am in their branch in Bonifacio High Street, got a long talk with the owner of the store, Jaime Daez, and he told me that the line went long up to the other side of the whole street. This is a big sign that the free comic book day celebration is a big success in the Philippines and I’m already predicting that the celebration will be bigger next year.
Ginataang Kuhol
May 25, 2008
I had always thought that Kuhol (a.k.a escargot or brown snails) was an expensive dish and very hard to find. But despite that perception, I always welcomed when my mom served ginataang kuhol at our house. I did not have the icky reaction to that fact that it was a snail I was trying to pick out from the hard brown shell with a toothpick. Not only was my reaction surprising (I hate anything slimy and slithery a.k.a worms and slugs), my jaw dropped when I found out these little buggers cost about P10 to P20 a cup at the local market.
The easiest thing to do to kuhol is to cook and serve them with coconut milk. It has actually evolved into a famous dish served at places like Cabalen or Kamayan. Now you can have the same at home.
J-Drama: Bambino Review
May 25, 2008
Bambino is a Japanese Drama adaptation of a manga by Sekiya Tetsuji. It tells the story of Ban Shogo (Matsumoto Jun), a college student who dreams of becoming a professional chef in Italian cuisine. The story starts with Ban leaving (as suggested by his mentor) his hometown Hakata, Fukuoka for Tokyo to master his cooking skills. It turns out that the restaurant his mentor assigned him to is Trattoria Baccanale, an ellegant and professional Italian restaurant. Shock, he discovers that he has much to learn and so needs to study more and improve himself in order for him to reach his dreams.
My Comments
I know when it comes to asian dramas, you’ll probably think of those cheesey love stories or those romantic-comedy types. Bambino is different. Read the rest of this entry »

The California Maki in Rice Paper Roll - California Maki with a Twist

The California Maki in Rice Paper Roll - California Maki with a Twist
(California maki wrapped in rice paper)
Most Filipinos that love Japanese Foods, especially the ladies, really love eating California Maki. Maybe it is because it’s the most well known Japanese food, aside from Tempura of course. Other than its appearance and reputation, the taste of California Maki is acceptable in most Filipino palates. For the new starters and still learning to eat food items from the sushi bar, the California Maki is the best choice to start. California Maki’s original recipe from countries outside the Philippines, consist of avocado, crabmeat (it could be real crab meat or imitation crabmeat stick “Kani Kama”), cucumber, and lettuce. However, here in the Philippines, we substituted the avocado with our most favorite mango fruit, which even made the California Maki more delicious. Maybe it is because of the availability of the mango all year round, unlike the avocado that is seasonal.

How far will you go for a man?
May 24, 2008
Lately, my friends and I have come to talking about our past lives. I cannot remember how it all started and why. I can only guess that because of the years between the past and the present and the fact that we were all happily married now, we can all look back and laugh at all the stupidity of youth we once called our lives.
The topic that day centered on the lengths one would go to for the man they loved. Calm down! I know what you’re thinking! It was the same way that day. Everyone talked at the same time. Each wanting to share their experience and all wanted to be the most stupid of all. Oh yes, we can forgive ourselves and laugh at all our antics now but I’ll bet during those times, we were all lovestruck, blind and deaf. Even I cannot forget the years I used to run around in circles trying to please my guy.

RCBC-Cabuyao Robbery-Murder
May 24, 2008
Last May 16, six armed men stormed an isolated branch of RCBC at the Industrial Park in Cabuyao, Laguna. They took an approximate of 10-15M pesos from the bank and the lives of eight bank personnel, a security guard and a client. This incident has been tagged by the PNP as the ’bloodiest bank robbery-murder’ event in the history of the country. Everyone was shocked and horrified by the violent assault but you can’t say no one knew this would happen.
The PNP said they received information that a bank robbery would happen that day but didn’t expect it to happen inside an industrial park. I wasn’t dreaming when I heard Razon say this on T.V. Patrol. Then PGMA went furious and ordered the PNP to have a thorough investigation to capture the animals. And as a loyal puppet, Sec. Gonzales also went berserk and wanted the animals to die and rot in hell. But there will be no shoot to kill order says Razon.
Task Force RCBC was formed and days later, the team had an ‘encounter’ with 4 out of the 6 suspected robbers: Pepito Magsino, 35, Vivencio Javier, 55; Angelito Malabanan, 35; and Rolly Lachica, 50, who were all killed in the shootout in the village of Pagaspas, Tanauan City. At this point in the story, it is important to note that the PNP has a ‘witness’ and that the ‘witness’ was the one who identified the 6 suspects from police files. Razon said that the witness identified men possibly involved with organized syndicates that work in the Calabarzon area.

Good News!???
May 24, 2008
There’s news regarding no tuition fee increase in all private and public state universities and colleges according to Commission on Higher Education Chairman Romulo Neri. The one I posted earlier.
According to Neri, CHED officials are still reviewing the petitions of state and private universities regarding tuition fee increase. Well its good news to hear that there will be no tuition fee hike for every average Filipino family. We are still suffering from side by side increase of basic commodity needs like rice, flours and breads, weekly increase of oil and recently the poultry and hog products, veggies and sea foods, effect by recent tropical depression Cosme, we can no longer absorb another increase in form of tuition fees. At least sophomores, juniors and seniors can continue their studies without hard thoughts. Increase was good for the development of facilities of the school establishment, but does the teachings and trainings improves? For some known colleges and universities yes, but how about some schools that doesn’t even passed the CHED standards?
Is it really good news? Well Neri however said colleges and universities do not need CHED permission to increase fees for the incoming freshmen. Whoa, how about other students who wants to get a degree courses or even associates. Survey says many average Filipino families are considerable to be poor these days. What if theses families can no longer afford to take their children to schools? The main reason of poverty here in our country is education, so how can we arise these problems if education it self were too much of the costs. Only in the Philippines, education is a business and not an institutions, you be the judge. Rodel.
