Yes, I’m bringing the noise back into this blog. And when I say “noise”, I mean “comic books and other geeky stuff”. I bought a lot of comics last week so I thought now’s the best time to force some comics goodness down your unsuspecting throats. Also, I just closed Face Rockery, so, yeah. There’s that. And here we go:

Thor: Reign of Blood - The second Thor one-shot from my current man-crush, Matt Fraction, has everything I loved about the first one. Violence! Trickery! Cruel gods! Sexy goddesses! All-around awesomeness! Seriously, Thor piloting the Blood Colossus to smite the vast army of the undead while it’s raining blood? That’s so bad ass it should be illegal.

I had to renew my Drivers’ License yesterday. It will be expiring this weekend *hint hint*. Good thing my dad brought me to LTO Aguinaldo/Cubao where there are significantly less people, cars and fixers. I abhor bureaucracy and its inefficiency and a crowded office makes it worse. I passed time waiting for my turnS (with an S because you have to wait for your turn several times as you have to go through several windows for processing, verification, cashier, 2 pictures and signatures, drug test and medical examinations etc. etc.) watching the Lakers-Celtics game (Go Celtics!).

There is perennial interest from the media and the general public every time there is an incidence of violence or death related to UP’s fratenities. I think the interest stems mostly from puzzlement over how some of the country’s supposed ‘best and brightest’ could commit such inane acts. I am sure sociologists have more sophisticated explanations about how the group dynamics of these organisations work - and why they result to senseless, stupid and lethal ends. But here is my two cent’s worth. And some suggestions.

Just less than two hours from now, another much awaited fight between two great fighters, dubbed as the “Lethal Combination“, Manny Pacquiao will battle it out with the Mexican - American David Diaz.
If Pacquiao wins this match then it will go down in the history books as he will be the first Asian to hold four world crowns in four weight division as well the first Filipino to reign in the 135-pound class.
Preliminary fights will start at 8PM EST 5PM PST (8AM PH time) and the main match should be starting after 2 hours or so. I’ll be watching it live again for FREE as usual.

A few hours from now, Manny Pacquiao will be heading to a slugfest with David Diaz. Will the pinoy boxer prove once again that he is the thorn of Mexican boxers? Or will Diaz be able to put an end to the Pacman’s winning streak? In the meantime, here are a few thoughts that I have written about the boxer from General Santos City, or make it a part of the boxer’s life as I know of it.
This is addressed to all professional mentors of PINOY DREAM ACADEMY……Joey Reyes et al….
I have watched Season 2 from the beginning. Here are my observations: Season 2 scholars seem weak and nervous during Gala Nights and dont seem to put out their best. Along with lessons in techniques, I feel strongly that they should be eating well enough and MUST KNOW right food to eat. THEREFORE, I believe that their allowance MUST NOT be based on group performance. PDA is a professional school and it must provide the scholars with right food and drink to eat. They must be taught the food that minimizes anxiety before performances, etc. Please dont deprive them of their opportunity to shine and give their best. They must be well-nourished to do this. Many thanks and more power!

P.S. I hope all mentors get this message.

I don’t believe that parenting is something that you learn by going to a school that teaches you how to do it. After all, who would be our teachers? I am not sure anyone can say they are the ultimate expert in parenting to qualify as a teacher of the subject. Its not like its Math or English where no matter how much the earth moves 1 + 1 will always be 2 and nouns will always be different from pronouns. In life, one’s parenting method may not necessarily work for one or even all.

I have read yesterday’s edition of Straits Times that Singapore is getting greener. They even showed a graphical representation of Singapore comparing it from 1986 to the present (see Singapore map below). According to the report of Straits Time, “The area of the island covered by greenery has gone up from 36 per cent in 1986 to 47 per cent last year, despite the country’s population shooting up from 2.7 million to 4.6 million during this period.”
