    Oh yeah, AVRIL stil rocks! (Concert Review)

    Whew! The day has finally come; after my arrival from Bulacan, my friend and I immediately hit the road to be at Araneta before 6PM, and gosh, it’s almost 7PM and we’re still on the road! Damn that traffic! Anyway, how fortunate of us not to wait on the queue, as half of the people already went inside…after a langorous ’search of bags’ done by the guards, we managed to pick a good seat, at about a 45-degree angle of the stage’s right side, the view’s so much better than choosing the center isle, right?

    We were thinking of someone/band who would be the opening act for Avril, but then again, we were surprised when the lights went off…I mean pink, and finally, the CROSSBONE backdrop amazed our sights! Everyone started yelling and cheering as the drums hum together with our heart beats (that’s more than 1 minute)…then, four gals came out of the stage carrying flags of Avril’s 3rd album’s cover and they were singing, “Hey, hey…!” and after a couple of seconds, Avril came out wearing a white hoodie with pink stars/hearts on it (I think) over a glittered black pedal pants w/ a pair of black high-cut Converse…of course her glittered black mic too! Don’t forget the pink streak on her hair, she was wearing curls this night, cute!

    Then she performed her uber-famous hits [refer to track list below]. She were all jumping and turning her head coyly all the time. And, unlike her previous concert here in Manila (The Fort), this crowd, was somehow, tamed. It’s also sad that Avril tried a couple of times to cheer her own audience by encouraging them (I mean, them, the people who bought the 10k VIP tix) to wave their hands out and scream, and sing with her. She went down from the stage and sang with the front-row audience! I hoped she went afloat the mosh pit, just like what she did on ‘Losing Grip’ music video. Too bad she ain’t hearing us, (the people on the upper box) singing every lyrics on the songs she sang. Well, you will notice, that she was somehow disappointed that the crowd didn’t participate that much, compared to the The Fort’s (at the Bonez Tour).

    As what she have said, pink is the new black for her, so everything has a touch of pink! The backdrop, of course; the mic stand, the lights, her earpiece, the first guitar that she used, and the piano! Where she played ‘When You’re Gone.’ Also, I know that most of you will agree that she didn’t sing the ‘full versions’ of the most of the songs for this concert; some of them were cut short into Refrain right after the Chorus, which we fully understand. She needs to cover all of the hits without taking too much time, right? That’s good though.

    She played the drums too, I guessed that was for ‘Bad Reputation’ (correct me if I’m wrong). I wished she could have done ‘acoustic’ or have sang one of her covers. She’s really grown up, and much to my anticipation, she’s not the Cold Queen that she was tagged when she previously went here. She was all smiling and jumping and waving her hands to us! \m/ This time, she was talking to her crowd, to her fans, and she’s really sweet! You know she’s shy, but she’s performed well, and naughty (especially, before performing ‘He Wasn’t'). Her first hit, ‘Complicated’ will always be the favorite!

    By the way, before she performed ‘Girlfriend’ (REmix), the backdrop was changed into that big red star (her Under My Skin album cover). If you’re an Avril fan you’ll get it. White ‘x’ for ‘My World,’ red star for ‘Under My Skin,’ and pink crossbone/heart for ‘Best Damn Thing.’! Yeah! Okie, so, went out, this time, wearing a red hoodie, and the head part has two poking parts, which made her look like a cute, sexy devil, haha! She sang ‘Girlfriend’ taking Li’l Mama’s spiel as well. Then, she proceeded to the ending song, ‘Sk8er Boi’ – everyone was waving their hands and even using a ‘rock-on’ gestures. After that, she bid goodbye, and hurriedly ran to the back stage…two guitarist performed a mini-showdown, and after a couple of seconds, that lights went on… and I thought if everything was just a dream, hehe! Of course, it’s not! Just like when Incubus rocked Araneta, and I was thinking I could touch Brandon’s face for a minute, waaahh!

    I’m hoping that her concert in Malaysia will be re-scheduled (or was it?), and that Avril will come back, so long. Keep on rockin’ \m/
