Independence Day – Philippine Freedom

110 years may pass and so on. Our nation changes from time to time. Some say its getting better, and some say its getting worse. All I can say is, I hope the Katipuneros who gave us this freedom are proud and happy. I hope each and every one of us, on this day, or even everyday in our lives from henceforth, let us all embed in our hearts and minds the principles of the Katipuneros. Let their blood flow within our veins and become Katipuneros as well.

The CSR that Gives Street Children the Gift of Music

When Nokia Philippines, sent us an invite for Nokia ACTS (Artists Coming Together to Serve), I just had to come despite its Sunday afternoon schedule. Nokia ACTS is a collaboration between Nokia Philippines and the talented minds behind Rock Ed Philippines. It has built on the latter’s Project VIA (Volunteers Initiative for the Arts) whose primary goal is to teach underprivileged children how to either play musical instruments or train for voice via music camps.

“Through this program, we hope to make an impact in the lives of the children by giving them a chance to excel in something and a chance at a future profession,” says William Hamilton-Whyte, General Manager, Nokia Philippines. “We are glad to have partnered with Rock Ed Philippines who are very passionate in their belief that we should ‘educate to end poverty’.”

On the “Abduction” (or Kidnapping?) of Ces Drilon

In case you’ve missed it, there’s this storm that hit the media more recently, It’s about the “abduction” case of Ces Drilon, the noted journalist from ABS-CBN. Early reports indicate a request from ABS-CBN to the media to make certain “restraints” on issuing details about the case so as to protect Drilon and her crew, along with Octavio Dinampo, a professor and a member of the MNLF senior Shura. As of this time, negotiations are under way.

Worst Weekend: Four (4) days of LBM

Worst Weekend: Four (4) days of LBM. I had a terrible experience this past weekend. In fact, this terrible experience is not yet over since I’m bringing it with me today at my desk! Forget about Lakers being a big looser in their Game 2 battle because I’m rooting for The Celts. Although I was a bit scared when Lakers tried to catch up in the final minutes but still I was confident that Celts will grab Game 2 because it’s a must for them since 3 next games will be in LA, that’s terrible if they can’t nail this one.

An experiment to prove if a small, young kitten can swim

An experiment to prove if a small, young kitten can swim. Below is a video created by a freak online friend of mine. As per his blog’s advisory “The video ain’t that cruel, it even goes beyond cuteness not cruelty.” Now it’s your turn to judge him…

From Vigan to a Newspaper and finally to the Courts: Copyright Infringement

Here’s an interesting story concerning a pinoy photoblogger…

It all started with this post:

Visiting Vigan
“The travel bug bit me again!…” …”Just got back from Vigan…”

Then came the violation:

Major Daily Violates Photographer¢s Copyright and Intellectual Property
…”the MB Feature of Vigan by MAX BALLESTEROS (march 21, 2007 B-5)…”

And now…

Philippine Photographer Sues Major Daily for Copyright Infringement.
“I finally did it.. with the help of my copyright lawyer atty vera. i sued a major daily, a 108 year old newspaper that used my photo without permission. The same newspaper that threatened to slap me with a criminal case if continued my claim.”

What’s next? coming soon… :)

This is an issue that bloggers should really be vigilant about, right? I guess this hasn’t been the only instance of violations done against bloggers by the main stream media. Just a guess hehe. Maybe there were others that haven’t been noticed or maybe have been noticed but never been raised. Just maybe. It’s a good thing that someone already stood up and brought the issue forward. We will surely learn from this issue as it unfolds. Let’s just hope that justice will be served.

Do you know any other instances of violations done against fellow pinoy bloggers?

Movie: Caregiver

One of the touching films I’ve seen in the big screen. The story was about a teacher who gave up her career to work as a caregiver in U.K.  She wanted to follow her husband and later on petition her son to be with them.

Unfortunately, she found out that her husband was not working as a nurse but a health aid, similar to janitor.  Her husband soon felt ashamed of himself and started drinking and skipping his duty.  In the end, he wanted to go back and was forcing Sarah to go back to the Philippines.

But Sarah, due to her adventure with a rich old man, William Morgan, learned about her own values and decided to stay there.  The scene with William Morgan was touching. At first, the old grumpy man was shouting at her but when she spoke back the old man realized his mistake and became mellow. They became good friends until the old man died.

This movie showed that being true to your duty and learning to be more human could lead to friendship, warm, and kindness in life.

Buses Are Still On The Sidewalk

I’ve made a post in January regarding certain buses who have made the sidewalk along Paso de Blas their temporary terminal, or where they await and load passengers.  This is wrong, dangerous practice as it deprives the pedestrians the use of the sidewalk, and, at the same time, increasing the risk of reckless bus drivers hitting pedestrians as they maneuver their heavy buses ON the sidewalk.  Add to that the mere possibility of buses getting out of balance, as the sidewalks are inclined.

And well, it seems that the buses are still ON the sidewalk up to the very present.

See the photos I took of those inconsiderate bus drivers.

Battle of the Bloggers

did you know that not only Manny Pacquiao and David Diaz will be put to battle this coming June 28? But bloggers too. Not the kind of battle you are thinking of. This is a battle in the SERP for the keyword Manny Pacquiao David Diaz result, or Pacquiao Diaz result.
