Globe Slashes Text Messages by P0.50 A Promo

July 31, 2008

I read that the for you to register in the promo which is valid only for 1 DAY, you need to send TO 20 to 2868.  You will receive a confirmation within 30 minutes that you have 40 text messages to other networks.  Now the big question is could these text messages be used to Globe and TM? The answer from a source is a BIG NO!

Guys, this means that you can use only the 40 messages to other networks (meaning, Smart, Sun, Mobile Addict).  For you to text on net subscribers, meaning Globe and TM, you have to load up separately.  Whoever thought of this was absolutely smart in getting more money from the subscribers.  I like to hire this person! Kudos to you!

10 Things from SDCC that Rocked My Face

July 31, 2008

I didn’t go to the recently concluded San Diego Comic-Con, but thanks to the magic of the Internets, I got all the news and ridiculous photos of ridiculous people in ridiculous costumes from the event that I needed. And then some. It took me a couple of days to rummage through my bookmarks and feeds, but I eventually singled out 10 news items that made my balls sweaty with geeky anticipation. Here be the list:

1. Agents of Atlas Ongoing Series! My mancrush on Jeff Parker began when I was awesomed deeply by the Agents of Atlas mini-series back in 2006. My love for AoA has been well documented (Love & War, 2006 Awesome List, Lantern of Doom!, Agents of Atlas, Top 5 Lists #9 of 10: Graphic Fiction, and Giant-Size Rockery), so it goes without saying that I am extremely happy to learn that I’ll be getting my dose of AoA monthly starting early 2009.

Philippine Juicy Fruits

July 30, 2008

These four young, talented, bright and beautiful ladies are excellent singers who could also dance to the hilt was so lucky to have been discovered by Sister Bella Dimayuga. Their future in the entertainment industry is not only secured, but their well-being as a complete person, a Christian and their moral uprightness is assured as well. With them, the Philippines can be assured of ripping more honors abroad from these singing and dancing divas. They will be introduced fully into the entertainment industry here and ultimately, abroad: in the U.S. and all over the world !

Sister Bella, the President of the then world renowned Bellestar Promotions told us that she has something big in store for these young, beautiful and talented ladies in the United States where she now promotes our country and kababayans. It’s one thing we admire of this lady, she has a big heart not minding spending money to take care of her fellow Filipinos, developing their talents, nurturing their well-being, then sending them abroad for a brighter future is not an easy task.

2008 SONA

July 30, 2008

Last Monday’s SONA was breathtaking - it literally kills you with inconsistencies and bull shit.

To listen to PGMA go on and on about how she is concerned for the welfare of the people is, to say the least, rather damning:
(1) She insists that VAT cushions the world food and fuel crisis in the country;
(2) VAT is the fuel for government projects and such to help the poor;
(3) Poverty and unemployment has gone down;
(4) Sending more OFWs to other countries is a wonderful thing;
(5) Microfinance has gone up to help more people;
(6) There is an existent fuel subsidy for people who work in the transport sector;and
(7) The price of sending SMS has gone down to 50 cents.

To start with, VAT does not cushion anything other than the government’s revenue. You pay an extra amount for what, to shoulder government projects to help the poor? What help does this scheme offer the poor, no, us in general when we’re forced to pay more than we could afford? And what Pro-POOR projects was she referring to?

Are shopping malls really helping to boost a city’s economy?

July 30, 2008

I have no idea why the establishment of shopping malls are considered one of the indicators of an area’s eligibility to become a city (if you do have, kindly tell me in the comments section). I can well understand if it is for the aesthetic formation of a metropolis, but for the latter’s economy, I should say that it is an unpractical reason or idea in a country with a huge percentage of poverty.

Malls are big venues of trade and interchange, and almost all cities in the country accommodate various mall franchises which house branches of luxury stores from all over the planet, with a few little native products aggregated in a side to form the mall’s tiangge in some, but in most supermalls, the tiangge has lost its place.

This pours in a considerable amount of revenue, but what about the small businesses of local proprietors who got blurred behind the boom of incoming foreign goods? Are shopping malls really signs of a city’s good health? (Read More)
