Perfect cover up

December 31, 2008

Are you like me? Do you wish you had the perfect body? You know, ample perky breasts, cute little booty and toned abs like you worked out regularly? Ok keep wishing. Well for those who ARE like me, then a little bulge should not hinder us from being our most fashionable or most confident (my hubby is actually looking at me right now like I’m being weird or something - Men!).

Spring 2009 of Stella McCartney

December 31, 2008

Speaking of Stella McCartney, has anyone seen her creations for LeSportsac.

The company that was infamous because of TokiDoki invited Stella for a little fun. (Fall and Spring 2008)

These bags are like TokiDoki sober with dashes and splashes of Stella’s subtle yet statement-making ways.

Stella McCartney for LeSportsac’s Fall 2008 Collection consists of 11 pieces of handbags and luggage which never fails to highlight the fusion of fashion mixed with function. This fall range is a change from her first collection which was full of prints, “handbags and luggage evolve from softer, more sophisticated Stella McCartney tones of earth, blues and greys, with tonal stitch details and faux leather trims”. “All fabrics are generated from 100% recycled materials, and the handtag is made from 100% recycled paper and comes in 100% recycled plastic sleeve, and the dust bag is 100% biodegradable.” Each handbag and luggage includes a metal/wood Deer charm. - nitrolicious.com

Other collaborations are with H&M (the advertising is cool!), Adidas, and Target Australia. (more here)

Recently her collections for Spring Summer 2009 consisted of laces, soft fabrics, men’s tailoring and a monochromatic head to toe look (flesh tones, to stone gray, and the classic black and white).

Some By Chance, Some By Choice: In reference to an article by Nancy Rome

December 30, 2008

I read an article on being childless from the Washington Post and thought I must share it here. Here is an excerpt from Nancy Rome’s Childless: Some by Chance, Some by Choice

“No, no, sorry. I don’t have any . . .”

Why does this always seem to be the first thing I’m asked? It takes my breath away, yet why do I feel the need to apologize for my reply? Looking vague and embarrassed, my questioner glances over my shoulder for someone else to talk to: someone with whom he or she has more in common, someone with children.

I never thought I’d be childless. Thirteen years ago, my husband and I were expecting our first child. I was a healthy 37-year-old when I went into labor one chilly November morning. We raced to the hospital, the atmosphere between us full of anticipation and anxiety.

The delivery was normal; almost everything was normal. Except that our daughter was dead.

Nancy’s account on that November morning sent the chills to my spine. I could not imagine what it must feel like to lose a child after carrying her in your womb full term. I would have been really devastated.

Christmas Economics

December 30, 2008

My blog is distinctly missing a Christmas greeting and it’s not because I’m Scrooge in the flesh. Despite appearances, I am a Christmas fanatic. I studied in Catholic schools where every year, traditional tableaux reminded me of whose birthday it was we were celebrating. For some strange reason, I was never chosen to play Mary, Joseph or one of the three kings. The closest I could get to a role in a school tableau was as donkey alternate.

cebu restaurant filipino food cheaverz

Sunday night…

I’ve been craving for a ngohiong for quite sometime now. I miss the ngohiong from my high school days; but the store opens until 2pm only, and it’s in Guadalupe.

Coming from The Terraces Ayala Cebu, I drove myself to this Filipino restaurant in Cebu, Cheaverz Fried & Grill, to order take-out of my favorite Filipino food.

December 30, 2008

MANILA – Philippine Airlines is again reducing its fuel surcharge on selected domestic and international flights effective January 1, 2009, to reflect the decline in oil prices in world markets.

a brief history of worms

December 30, 2008

my last post about DTI’s website being hacked prompted me to do some research on internet viruses and worms.

according to snowplow.org, the term “worm” originated from a science fiction story called “The Shockwave Rider” written by John Brunner in 1975. the story is about a totalitarian government that controls its citizens through a powerful computer network. a freedom fighter infests this network with a program called a “tapeworm” forcing the government to shut down the network, thereby destroy its base of power.

There is nothing more fun than having to take advantage of the holidays to party, socialize, relax, let your hair down and allowing your kids to stay up way past their bedtime. The holiday season and its endless scheduled family gatherings, community get-togethers and block parties creates the perfect atmosphere for this kind of free spirited celebration.

Battle of the burgers

December 29, 2008

I know several people who would probably disagree (make that a lot) but if I were asked to choose between Jollibee or McDonalds, I would have to say McDonalds. Although it is not my first choice, it will do since it is admittedly one of the most accessible fast food joints in the metro.

Most Romantic Way of Closing 2008

December 28, 2008

Do you know the most romantic way of closing 2008? You don’t?! Well, it is watching the Year’s Last Sunset together with your love ones.

This year, as we close 2008, join everyone in the world as we take Photos of 2008 Last Sunset together with our love ones. The mechanics are simple:

* Take a Photo of 2008 Last Sunset together with your love ones
* Your photo must include the following:

[Where you took the photo]
[City], [Country]

* You can add a few messages, your blog URL, favorite game, brand name, anything you want (just keep it general patronage okay?)
* Your message must be part of the photo, no digital editing.
* All photos mus tbe Licensed under: Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported License (CC By-SA 3.0)
* All photos must be uploaded to Google Picasa Web and/or Yahoo! Flickr
* All photos must be tagged with “2008_Last_Sunset” (without quotes)
* All photos must be tagged with “CC_By-SA_30″ (without quotes)
* And finally, feel free to use the content and create slides of your own.

You can check the sunset for your city here. For my fellow Filipinos, it will be at exactly 5:37pm.

Good Luck and we hope you enjoy the most romantic way of closing the Year 2008.

Revisiting Cyma

December 27, 2008

Ever since I first ate at Cyma, I have been wanting to go back. I had tons of opportunities to go back because as it turns out, my clients, colleagues and friends are all fans of Cyma’s delicious food. This post actually tells of the different dishes I have tried and have come to love during the many times I (re)visited this restaurant.

World Domination and Value Meals

December 27, 2008

If there’s one thing in the Philippines that sprouts faster than weeds, it’s Jollibee outlets. It seems there’s always one in every corner. A little over five years ago, Cagayan de Oro only had two or three outlets around. Today, there are about ten of them with the newest having recently opened across Lourdes College. TEN! The number is enough to give you nightmares of swarms of giant yellow-orange bees out to get your pocket money and of thousands of chickens rising against chicken rights violations. Read more

Blog Hack and A Wedding

December 27, 2008

Finally, this blog is up and kicking again after 2 or 3 days in hiatus. This site was hacked and malicious scripts were injected to it’s root folders resulting to missing php’s. Thanks to Jez for his assistance.

As you probably noticed, Sonnie’s Porch was in semi-hibernate mode for about 2 weeks, providing only short updates and picture sharing. Blame it to budget preparation and business planning, blogging & work, at times, don’t blend well. I hope with the long Christmas vacation, I’ll be providing regular updates with value adding content that  everyone expected.

Let me start by blogging about the wedding of a person dear to us.  As I shared in my Plurk page, the wedding made me teary eyed for 2 reasons:

  1. I remembered my own wedding and the vow I made to my wife 16 years ago-  As I see Bryan, the groom, wept as they exchange vow’s,  I remembered myself weeping as I see my bride walk the aisles 16 years ago.
  2. Likewise, the bride, Dess,  is dearly loved by wifey and myself.
