Some By Chance, Some By Choice: In reference to an article by Nancy Rome

I read an article on being childless from the Washington Post and thought I must share it here. Here is an excerpt from Nancy Rome’s Childless: Some by Chance, Some by Choice

“No, no, sorry. I don’t have any . . .”

Why does this always seem to be the first thing I’m asked? It takes my breath away, yet why do I feel the need to apologize for my reply? Looking vague and embarrassed, my questioner glances over my shoulder for someone else to talk to: someone with whom he or she has more in common, someone with children.

I never thought I’d be childless. Thirteen years ago, my husband and I were expecting our first child. I was a healthy 37-year-old when I went into labor one chilly November morning. We raced to the hospital, the atmosphere between us full of anticipation and anxiety.

The delivery was normal; almost everything was normal. Except that our daughter was dead.

Nancy’s account on that November morning sent the chills to my spine. I could not imagine what it must feel like to lose a child after carrying her in your womb full term. I would have been really devastated.

Christmas Economics

My blog is distinctly missing a Christmas greeting and it’s not because I’m Scrooge in the flesh. Despite appearances, I am a Christmas fanatic. I studied in Catholic schools where every year, traditional tableaux reminded me of whose birthday it was we were celebrating. For some strange reason, I was never chosen to play Mary, Joseph or one of the three kings. The closest I could get to a role in a school tableau was as donkey alternate.

Sunday night…

I’ve been craving for a ngohiong for quite sometime now. I miss the ngohiong from my high school days; but the store opens until 2pm only, and it’s in Guadalupe.

Coming from The Terraces Ayala Cebu, I drove myself to this Filipino restaurant in Cebu, Cheaverz Fried & Grill, to order take-out of my favorite Filipino food.

a brief history of worms

my last post about DTI’s website being hacked prompted me to do some research on internet viruses and worms.

according to snowplow.org, the term “worm” originated from a science fiction story called “The Shockwave Rider” written by John Brunner in 1975. the story is about a totalitarian government that controls its citizens through a powerful computer network. a freedom fighter infests this network with a program called a “tapeworm” forcing the government to shut down the network, thereby destroy its base of power.

JULIET NGO FIEL

I believe many in our clan are into politics. In the Visayas Region, there are a good number of them: Gwen, Byron and Pablo Fiel Garcia of Cebu; Benjamin Fiel Tugonon, who passed away recently, was a consistent topnotcher as a councilor and was the former vice mayor of Ormoc (Thanks to Attorney Oscar...
