Illiterates

I had thought adult illiterate Filipinos didn’t exist. I was, however, proved wrong. This incident happened around July last year.

While waiting to get my ATM card from a very long wait, I heard an interesting exchange.

Sunda lagi ang instruction, sir, the teller said in a tone that bordered on annoyance. Or maabtan ta ani ugma.

Follow the instructions, sir, or we’ll end up finishing this tomorrow.

Naa biya nay example dira.

The examples are there.

The teller returned the man’s application forms and went out to do some other business. The man meekly accepted the documents and signed whatever the teller marked.

ID number na bay, I said as I noticed that he apparently forgot to read the instructions. Dili na sign-an.

Those blanks are for your ID number. You do not sign there.

Flash Mob

Flash Mob: a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual action for a brief time, then quickly disperse. The organization of flash mobs is generally accepted as being limited to the social media or viral emails, rather than organized by public relations firms or for a stunt. Also flash mobs are not politically or commercially motivated as described by Bill Wasik’s in where he said, they serve no purpose (wikipedia)

Recently I’ve been very much entertained watching flash mob videos in YouTube after watching a T-mobile flash mob gig. Though technically, based on the flash mob definition, this is not a flash mob because it was a stunt for a T-mobile ad, but nonetheless it was very much entertaining. As the music progress you can see more and more people “joining” the dance :) [Read More]

Should IT Pinoys worry about ageism?

found this post from stackoverflow asking, “Should developers worry about ageism?”

here’s the snapshot of the question - “Having worked in software development for 12 years, I’ve recently started to worry about ageism in the industry. Seeing I’m not too bad at what I do I’ve never really worried about where my next job’s going to come from, but the more I look around me the younger software developers seem to get.

Although I feel I’m now at the top of my programming game, I have some management experience and I’m now wondering if I should make a fully-fledged leap from development to ensure future career security.

I know ageism has traditionally be linked with the IT industry, but given modern employment law makes discrimination illegal, is ageism still a real problem for software developers? Or are my aging neurons deluding me?”

Milk on your Lips

He was loved and hated. He was in his 40s and California during the early 1970s was yet to have one of its greatest lessons in history. The rest of America haven’t heard about him, but the movement that he championed was slowly making its roots across the nation, recruiting a legion of supporters to a cause so noble yet so revolutionary that it threatened to shatter the walls of bigotry surrounding the conservative minds of those who oppose a shift in the status quo. For having been able to stare the malignancy of discrimination and look upon it like a Goliath waiting to befall on its knees, he’s got the biggest balls than any other man during his time. He is Harvey Milk.

And he is gay.

Mineral Water vs Purified/Distilled Water

It is a debate that will never end because the Scientific community doesn’t have an official stand about the matter for various reasons, or no one simply bothered to conduct an official and thorough study to finally end the debate.

What do we do then? We search and decide for our own. Here are some of what I found simply by using Google Search. Click here to continue reading…

10 THINGS I LEARNED FROM BRUCE LEE AND HIS SECRET

I grew up watching Bruce Lee do his moves in the movies. I always remember him every time I hear my son play Tekken in his PSP.

I’m sure that you would agree with me that he was one of the greatest martial artist ever known.

So why blog about somebody whose dead? [read more...]

Breakfast at Antonio’s

By now, many may already know that Breakfast at Antonio’s can no longer be found in the old location (Bagong Tubig, Tagaytay). It is now co-located at the equally famous Antonio’s restaurant that many people also love. My family and I discovered a couple of months ago when we decided to take sweetie’s new ride for a spin. The spin took us south of the Metro and face to face with the old abandoned green and white house.
