The last time I was there was almost five or six years ago. Human memory has its own ways of making you forget some of the few precious things which you would always want to remember, and this is not one of the few exceptions. The things I do recall, though, have something to do not with the when, except for September, but with the what. It’s that month of the year when the streets of Naga City turn into an ocean of humanity, and the people are proof to the idea that there’s more to life than mere living. The Peñafrancia festivity has always been something worth anticipating, something worth the wait, something worth going back to time and time again without ever losing sight of what it stands for, or getting tired of it. It calls upon the flock of local folks and draws the outsiders to leap straight into it, something that has been so decades of years before. Personally, I find it at the very center of my being a Bicolano, without which I would have easily forgotten all about from where I came. It’s enough to say that it is one of the many sources of regional pride that I have, parts and parcels of which have a lot to do with the countless things I have dealt with in the full brush of a young boy’s life.

how to avoid falling into investment schemes
People sell anything these days but what catches our attention are opportunities to make money. But we must be careful in placing our hard earned money. They might be offering incredible returns but at what cost. Such high returns at regular intervals could probably be what is called a Ponzi scheme. According to the wikipedia: A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment operation that pays returns to separate investors from their own money or money paid by subsequent investors, rather than from any actual profit earned. This is also called pyramid scheme, since what is paid to the top investors of the pyramid are the investments of those at the bottom and so on until the pyramid becomes too large and without new investors, it collapses. The title of this post is quite misleading because it is very difficult to spot these schemes. These are perpetuated by professionals, they have beautiful offices and your friends are also investing their money with them. It only becomes clear if we look at it in retrospect, when our investments with them have vanished.
Reusable bag from the Philippines
Reusable bags are now in. I just saw a CNN video that featured the Philippines recycling billboards into bags. I was in the Philippines last year and I saw a lot of billboards along EDSA and C-5. Check out this link for the video.
But have you ever wondered who really started the reusable bags? or where it came from?
I remember when I was a kid when my lola used a bayong. I am guessing that it might be the 1st reusable bag in the Philippines but it slowly faded away when plastic bags were introduced. I believe with the trend of reusable bags, we as Filipinos, can be proud and say that we have one that has been used for decades.
