US striker Charlie Davies escapes fatal car accident

Sochaux striker Charlie Davies, who on Saturday helped the U.S. to qualify for the 2010 World Cup with a 3-2 victory over Honduras, underwent surgery Tuesday after being injured in a single-car crash in the Washington, D.C. area. The 23-year-old was in a stable condition, said U.S. soccer spokesman Neil Buethe, adding that a woman inside the car was killed.
