Dogs can swim

When the water came in
it came in higher than it used to.
It used to only come up to my dog’s tummy
but now it came up to his neck – and he was standing on his hind legs.
The little girl next door couldn’t swim, my father said this morning.
That’s why I won’t see her again.
It’s a good thing dogs can swim.
